I agree. I'm new in the past year to Nature and Landscape, and it's videos like yours that got me to invest in it, and I love it. On hikes, it gets a nice angle of fallen trees, or upward angle shots. It is a bit cumbersome, but I also carry the sigma 60-600 with me and that's a beast. So this is a small price to pay when I throw it in my waist saddle bag.

I have a 20mm lens which is wide enough for most of what I do. However, the Sigma looks brilliant. Strange term for me to use since I live in California, but I've been watching a lot of British flicks lately. If I had the money it would be a cool lens to have, but I might be one of those you're talking about that uses it once or twice a year and then sits it on the shelf. Thanks for another great review!

Primarily shooting concerts now and rented this lens out. It was a small venue with a stage and no barricade. I found the 14mm to be perfect for getting really cool close up perspectives of the performers and being able to fit the entire crowd in frame while taking a group photo on stage. I've tried the Tamron 17-28mm previously and it wasn't wide enough nor did it look as sharp at f2.8 for me. I think that its only real downside is the weight and not being able to take front filters that would make me consider their 16-28mm instead.

I have used this lens both with Nikon F and Sony FE mount. The Nikon version seems to not be focus-by-wire, perhaps this is typical for Nikon. However I usually am on Sony and for that mount it is focus by wire. Either way great lens. If you like the focal lengths, get it. Putting this onto a full frame camera and looking into it, I began to see the world in new ways. It was like seeing more than you're normally allowed to see by the naked eye, and felt like being a small child or something again because of the interesting perspective. Recommend if you want to try wide angle - also works fantastic for real estate, which is why I got it. Everything said in the video is true - it's one of the great ones and I strongly suggest giving it a try if you can.

7:45 - What a gorgeous picture! The green colors are so vibrant, and the razor-sharp focus on the rock wall with the softer background is really pleasing. I wish I knew which camera you used. I'm considering buying a Panasonic S5 with this lens for my real estate photography business. I currently have an Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 on my Panasonic G9, and the bulbous front lens often picks up flares from the sun or even from inside lights. I just have to watch out for that and shield the lens with my hand when I see it. I suspect it is the same with this lens.

I love this lens and is one of my go to's. Also, great review, but let's be honest, you can't say that you're not paid when they send you the gear to review. We all know that if you down talked it or were overly critical about it, they wouldn't send you anymore gear to review, therefore taking away content to create. A lot of reviewers do this and it's cringe. You are better off just not mentioning it at all.

it's not true. I don't get to keep it and I am free to say whatever I want. I have criticised lenses when there was need for that but in all honesty I have managed to be a professional photographer for 10 years with just two cheapest lenses I could afford at the time. I don't believe that there are bad lenses these days (not in this class anyway), whatever you think there is wrong with it, you can work around it and make the lens work. There is too many people these days saying that the lens is garbage when it really isn't, just too high and unrealistic expectations and lack of experience to achieve desired results. This lens is above average for sure

I'm still torn on this one. I'm still unsure about whether I would really need a polarizer (If I don't do enough landscape). But in addition to the lens costing more, it would also cost way more to get a filter system just for this lens since it does not have filter threads. Sony 20mm would be lighter, sharper, use 67mm filters and way more portable when it comes to hiking. But of course it is not as wide. Really would prefer to not have to buy two lenses. @@PavSZ I got both atm , bought them for good prices so I’m trying to keep one and sell the other one. Btw I think that sigma is heavier than Sony for 100-200g. It’s hard choice. I like sigma because of that 14mm and price but don’t like because of weight, no front filters.

I'm sure you've been told this already but zooming IN clockwise is actually the NORMAL one... As far as I know it's only Canon which consistently goes the other way. And no, Sigma do not always go the same way. Sometimes, at least in the older days, they would make them to match Canon lenses but mostly they go the correct way (clockwise to zoom in). Clockwise to zoom in is demonstrably correct. Clockwise to zoom IN matches the intuition of anyone who has ever used a screwdriver or fastened a bolt. The Canon way is unpopular for a reason: it's wrong.

I totally agree but literally every other brand that I use (Sony, Nikon, Om-System and Fuji) turn the other way. It's irrelevant what is the 'correct' way. You get used to something and then one brand does the opposite. That's all

Wouldn't hesitate to get this lens if it weren't for the lack of good filter solutions. Rear filters are not an option to me, and front filters on this type of lenses are a pain 😭

Have a look at Haida rear filter len which are quality glasses and not gel filter, they are actually doing a kit especially for this lens and it is amazing!

@@jonnyelpoiss7 Thanks, I've seen reviews on that kit, but the filter I use the most is a circular polarizer. I'm leaning towards getting the Tamron 17-28. 14mm vs 17mm is a significant difference, but I think 17mm will be wide enough for most situations.

@@PavSZ can’t tell the difference at all. Maybe because they’re not side by side. That would be a great comparison, I’m trying to decide between the two right now for my S5iix. I want a lens for real estate content; virtual tours, and stills. I also need the lens to be able to shoot video at night. Which would you recommend? I like the versatility of the Sigma but I’m sure the prime would perform much better.
