As a Sigma 14-24/2.8 Art owner I want to confirm Christopher's findings! This lens is a beast. I fell in love with the build quality, but the image quality is better than anything I've ever owned! (Nikon 14-24/2.8 F, Nikon 14-30/4 Z, Sony 12-24/4 G, Sony 16-35/4.) It reminded of shooting with 70-200/4 L IS for the first time and realizing how sharp it was edge to edge wide open! That's the only lens that had a similar uniform sharpness wide open! It's insane!

Went to B&H and tried this, the Tamron and the Sigma 14mm f/1.8. This walks all over the Tamron, but you go and compare like for like with the 14mm prime and you can see the difference as much again. This seems a great value, great performing ultra wide, it's on my shopping list.

Great lens, and another great review. Still waiting for the Tamron 17-28 review 😉 Just can't decide if 14mm and IQ is worth the extra money over the Tamron. In terms of sharpness maybe the Tamron is still plenty enough for a large print on the wall? I'm not a fan of the annoying filter solutions (front or back) and extra weight of this lens. But it just seems so fantastic in every other aspect.

Hey Chris, how does the DG DN version compare to the DG HSM version in terms of image quality, contrast, micro contrast, distortion? By the way, distortion and chromatic aberration are what I consider important for high end video camera, and I'd prefer lower micro contrast and intentionally avoid zeiss still lenses.

I plan to get A7RV with Tamron 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 (crop 2X to 800mm) and pair a 14mm F1.8 as ultrawide and everyday lens which can crop to 28mm F1.8 low light F3.6 DOF for that, is it good choice? Or better go with Loawa 10-18 manual, Sony 12-24 F4, Sigma 14-24 F2.8, 16-35 F4 PZ or Tamron 17-50? Is the Power Zoom essential or any of these even the fix lens can do dolly zoom just fine? And can I set profile for each lens so the results by the golden look Tamron lenses and cooler look Sony lenses will look consistent? If want stabilisation in addition to the IBIS, there will be crop too, the 14mm better?

Very nice review, thumb up. Any idea of this lens in L mount compared to Lumix S Pro 16-35 f4 ? I’m choosing between these two lens. Your comment will be appreciated.

Hi Christopher! Thank you for another excellent review!!! I have a question regarding the autofocus... when you show the focus performance, I noticed that it didn't focus 100% correctly on the the little bunny. Can you confirm that the autofocus can sometimes miss the subject and maybe the "fine focus" should be done manually? Thank you!!

Most lenses, if you stress test them like that, will occassionally miss a little bit. I never found an consistent problems with this lens

Christopher, I'm a hobbyist who on occasion sells an image here and there. One area I struggle with are panoramic landscapes with my Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L (you even reviewed this lens)., I'm looking at the Sigma 14-24mm f2.8, the Sigma 14mm prime and Canon EF EF 16-35mm f/2.8L. Any thoughts on which lens (on a budget) would be good for the sole purpose of landscapes? If I look at the zoom lens to 35mm I possibly would use it for landscape portraits. The camera body is Canon EOS 5D.M4, thoughts for this application?

I really hope Tamron and Sigma start on the Z mounts for NIkon. What a game changer!!

Yes but personally I'm alot more excited for Tamron and their 17-28mm and 70-180mm than Sigma's 14-24mm and 24-70mm.

@SwitchRich The thing is all companies are struggling! Even Sony's camera division... Propably Nikon and Canon are just doing fine with mirrorless but the entry level market is dying. Unfortunatly Tamron and Sigma have to do reverse engineering for both mounts and it will take some time to archive decent results.

Hello! Could you please review the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 and, if possible, compare it to this Sigma? Thanks.
