    Debating on getting the 14-24 vs the 16-35. I would be using it for both stills and video. If it was just photo, I would be 100% okay with the 14-24. But the fact that I would need it for video too, the 14-24 concerns me with the lack of VND at the front. An ND in the rear would be needed, but that seems annoying to use when shooting all day with it. And I can see it being prone to scratching the front element. But that 16-35 isn't as wide as I want. Plus, its way more $$ Ugh.

    You can actually drop in ND filters in the back of the lens. Adorama sells this lens in a kit with four ND filters for the MSRP. Granted, it's not as convenient as having a screw on variable ND, but a workaround nonetheless that video shooters might want

    The problem I have with this is that I already own a whole bunch of expensive filters. Also, I’m not sure I can use 2 filters at the same time, to have both an ND filter and a mist filter.

Tamron and Sigma have been making lenses and competing with canon and nikon for 20 years. they have way more experience than sony, and they now have a mount that is fully accessible, rather than having to reverse engineer camera signals. up until now, i have always heard "the sigma/tamron/tokina are great, but if you can afford it, i would go with sony". the tamron 15 - 30 was the first lens i have heard many youtubers recommend over the nikon. now, on sony, so many lenses are getting recommended over the g master.

  • @daxshell242

    @daxshell242

    3 жыл бұрын

    its because people confuse distortion with projection. stretched corners is a result of projection that makes corners look stretched, but that is actually what a spherical projection looks like on a flat plane. wide angles also suffer more from distortion, where straight lines are curved (like pincushion or barrel distortion), and this is undesirable as it causes a loss of a resolution. also, faces. once you leave the center 20% of the image, your face will start to do funny things. its all fun and games until the bride's face ends up in the corner of a wide angle.

    @@RileySerola You risk a dirty sensor with every lens change anyway. And it's easy enough to clean a sensor when inspecting your equipment before a shoot or after. Yeah, it's inconvenient, but not "I'll pay $800 more" inconvenient. For me, I need better reasons to toss $2200 at a lens than that. Consider everything else. If you get a lot of work using those focal lengths, make the investment.

    I noticed a big contrast difference in favor of the Sony when you showed them side by side while riding in your car. I'm not sure if it's because the sigma shot was overexposed, or if the GM is just really that much better. Look at your gf's arms at 2:07. ALso, I think you forgot to mention the ND filter holder on the back of the sigma.
