ya, wide angles are great for portriates.
14:40 was my favorite. I'm not usually a fan of wide for portraits but this is one of those rare occurrences that work really really well. The light is just amazing.
Great pigeon hunt! I come from landscape photography and once I tried to shoot in the city as well. But it's such a difference. I think it's actually harder to create really interesting stuff.
Love when you do these POV shoots in the city! Always giving me new ideas and places to shoot! 🙌💯
Great stuff as usual! I’m sure you’ve thought about it but do you know what would really help, is when you share each pic you can include the settings too eg f-stop, shutter speed, iso, so we can learn not just composition but the different settings you use under different environment ☺️
I love that you put the meh photos and great photos in, shows that it take multiple trues
Love running through the streets with a 12mm in my bag. Whenever I get bored with whatever I have on my camera that day, I can challenge myself with the ultrawide. And the lense being manual (Voigtländer) makes the process even more fun.
Would love to have seen more of a blown out background on the guy smoking. Always love your videos! They give me great inspiration to go out and make photographs!
Pierre, inspiring street photography again! I think with the 14mm it is good to get very close to a foreground which then contrasts with the wide angle. Keep on rocking!
haha 12:08 "who is this crazy dude?" Love it brother. I find shooting wide in the city a challenge too but IG folks love the wide angle 🤷♂️
I just picked up this lens a couple of days ago. Love it! Not too wide if you know what you are shooting. This lens is for up close and personal shoots, as well as landscapes. Absolutely love this lens.
Here’s a suggestion- with an ultra-wide lens you can get REALLY close to your subject. This doesn’t work for portraits, especially doing street photography. But you can get awesome shots where the subject absolutely dominates the shot. And everything is still in focus! Too bad about Central Camera. But they’re open again with limited hours, and stock film at reasonable prices.
Love these street photography videos!
love your energy, great work!
Absolutely love ultrawide lenses out in the street in downtown areas. So good for architecture. Especially in the part of Chicago you're at, so many great lobbies to photograph.
めっちゃきれくて感動✨
Great lens and i love your street photography videos :)
Lots of love from Maldives 🇲🇻❤️... You are my inspiration man 💞...
I like the status of this photographer's street shooting, full of passion and creativity, very inspiring to me, thank you!
You make the best POV videos! I love when these pop up.
I like the wide angle for street! I don't have a prime wide angle, but I have a 11-16mm I use and love it for street sometime and landscape photography
excelentes videos amigo! bravo!!!
Loved the results!
Pierre, I'm now saving for my first camera. Thank you! You're doing amazing work! Keep up the enthusiasm.

Thanks for an inspiring video. I have A1 and 14GM and will definitely try this out for street photography.
I absolutely love my 35mm 1.4, I would love to see more content with that lense!
Wow ! It's amazing 😍!
Chicago is a photographer paradise. I love it there!

Wonderful pictures 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Steely Dan's Deacon Blues playing at the coffee shop at around 4:36 took me a little to realise where I've heard the sax solo
this mans energy is always off the charts... i like it.
I walked by you and your spouse while you were setting your orange backpack up against the Palmer House on 8/6. I wanted to to say "Hi" and share my appreciation for your videos/photography, but I'm just not the type. I'm going to sign up for your course one of these days (I use a X-T3 though). Perhaps I can follow you around during one of your shoots around the Loop. Your Africa features were great!
I'm more curious on what focus setting you use since it's really fast run and gun? And what apature you stay around? thanks!!
I have a Nikon 14-30 f4 and love it. One of my favorite lenses
Pierre - an idea for your next video. Take night shots using >1s exposures and you're only allowed hand-held shots without using anything (or anyone) to stabilise the shots (tripods, resting hands on a wall, pipe etc etc etc).
That was the best crazy unboxing I’ve ever seen! 🤪
You are inspiring!! every time you said it's not working, those were your best shots lol !!! I wish I could do that!!!
I use my Rokinon 20mm1.8 for street photography I like 20mm on my APS-C camera as it gives me a 30mm focal length which is wide enough to get the whole street in focus
6:56 i literally felt in love with that photo
The Chow Chow 6:21 pic was beautiful!
I think the ultra wides are super fun and offer lots of options for creativity. That said, they are not an "every day" lens for most people. I had a 16mm and 10mm fisheye for my Nikon - the fisheye was super fun to play with but wanted something in between the 16 and 10 that wasn't fisheye. My budget wouldn't cooperate :(. I switched to Sony last year and am building back up my lens kit - I'll get an ultra wide again someday.
Wow amazing Very good job guys
The pidgeon girl was so sweet!
This is just what I wanted to see
I love these shots, I use a nikon 40mm afs macro lense for 90% of my photos and don't think I want to move away from it lol it's all around amazing lense, just wish I had the money to upgrade from my d3400
I just picked up a 14mm for my RP. Mostly for nighttime and astro photography. Never thought to use if for street.
Love you bro 🥰🥰
Not sure I’d use it much for other than astrophotography, but you got some great shots, quite a few actually. Better than a lot of your outings lately, IMO.
How do you earn money from photography apart from KZread and when did you felt that you will take photography as your profession . Please tell or make a separate video on this 😎
I’ve always love the ultrawide lens on my phone but doesn’t hold up well when yoy try to edit it. So I’m trying to get my hands on a similar focal length, and that’s how I stumbled on you video. Thanks for this! Definitely buying an ultrawide lens now 😁
HI Pierre, love your vids and your style! Question: the edits you show on screen with the presets, are those only the presets or do you also change the exposure and stuff a bit? thanks in advance!

I'm using the 12-24 2.8 and i love it!
Les lumières avec le soleil entre les immeubles, les réflexions.. Magnifique!!! Lot of fun avec les pigeons haha!
Are you profile-correcting the shots on post? Or is it a zero distortion glass? Thanks!!!
great job

Chasing those birds was worth it LOL
Great video, thank you. Could you please let me know what shooting equipment you have hanging on your chest when you hold the camera with both hands?
which settings did you use to have sharp people crossing street,... enough depth of field with train above the car ? F/4.5 1/500sec iso 100 and focus single point with af-on ?
Right on time Pierre..now I want some pancakes because of that lense 😂😂👀😂👏
Interesting! I didn't even know Sony made this 14mm. I'd love to have it for landscape or GoPro style shots. Also offtopic but didn't know Primark existed in the US 😅
hello Pierre! Nice video! I have a question, what do you think about the Canon 50 mm f1.8 as a first street photography lens?
@MarcelVolker
2 жыл бұрын
50mm is classic for street, can't go wrong 👍
Just bought a 16 mm and learned a lot from this video. Thanx! (Greetzz from The Netherlands 📸😉)
I had a 14mm on my GAS list but I realised it's not worth it for me, as I already have a 16-35 and I really don't go beyond that 16mm often enough to justify the cost. Great for architecture though - the distortion of an UWA looks fantastic!
i can only imagine how much of a easier time you wouldve had if the A1 had a proper flip screen, all those low angle shots wouldve been a breeze
I usually use the 85MM but I think it would be nice to sometimes to try something different
looks great. However it is so specific that for my z6ii i would better choose a wider range like Z 14-24mm F/2.8 (2700 euros) or, much cheaper, with good feedbacks, the Z 14-30mm F/4 (1200 euros). Also a great thing with these is you don't have big ball on lens and you can screw a UV protective filter,... By memory you also had nice street shoots in ultra wide angle mode of iphone 12 pro max, isn't it ? big quality difference with these alpha 1 + 14mm F/1.8 images (of course there is but lightroom+DXO can make miracles) ?
Binged watch a bunch of videos to get inspiration
I think it's really cool what you can do with this 14mm lens but for myself I can't go below 35mm or my composition is bad. In the future maybe but not yet. Your shots are dope tho ;)
6:44 GYAAAAAT
Salut Pierre, I bought this lens as my fun lens. And yes, indeed it is a really fun lens to use.
Big fan bro ❤️
I love the red dress under the L photo at 3:40!
I have a 14mm f/2.8 lens but I have never used it for street shooting. A 21mm f/1.4 is the widest I have used. However, your video has inspired me to try the 14mm in the streets.
Has pierre shared his camera settings for the alpha 1 yet? If so, can someone tell me in which video?
Please review sigma 50-100 f1.8 .. how's the depth at different focal points and the picture quality too ..
Seems like there has been a craze for Vloggers to use ultra wide lenses through their smartphones, go pros or mirrorless cameras. I’m convinced it’s hard to make compelling video or photos with focal lengths this wide. I think 18 mm would be my cut off point. I prefer 30-35 mm. It’s ironic but the 35 mm is becoming a lost focal length. I believe it’s the most versatile and effective, between that sweet spot of wide and tight. This was a great effort but also kind of shows that 14 mm is just not a good focal length.

I agree, well the 24mm 1.4 lens is the widest lens i go for, i have a 16-35mm that i never use because i feel like 16 -20 is just a bit too wide, 35mm is also a great one, but i feel like for video that the 24mm is more versatile than the 35mm

I'd say 50mm is as wide as I'd go for portrait

Yeah IME with this kind of ultrawide FOV, a compelling shot requires you to either shoot quite closely, shoot low, lean heavily on leading lines (so match the perspective distortion to your environment), crop, or some combination of these observations. The reflection shots he took were actually pretty neat. But ultimately I find 28-35mm to be wide enough without sacrificing reach, and it's approximately the FOV to which I'd crop in post, if I only had an ultrawide on hand or shot from the hip with one. EDIT: and of course, UWA can be very useful for indoor shots
14 mm I honestly think it might be too wide . Love you bro . You have teached me a lot
This guy is handling his new lens like I handle my life
What lens would you guys recommend using a Sony camera for street photography also for portrait photography hope you guys can help me out I’m hoping to start getting into photography thanks in advance💙
Great POV though ❤
nice lens ✌👍
What's the focus settings you used to capture those individual pigeon shots?
Do you only use presets when its possible or do you make allways More?
should i get this lens or sigma 16mm as beginner ? I have sony a6000.. plz reply brother

I don't know if the gear links on your website are working right. The "New favorite camera just for video" link sent me to the A7RIII
Nice! 😍
What's your opinion of Alexander Calder's sculpture at 11:28? (Behind the pigeon)
The Spot at 5:00 would be awesome with an anamorphic lens
Love from India bro i really love your photography ❤️
nice video. what aperture do you set to?
hi Pierre, Could you put in the photos the speed, aperture and iso? I am learning photography and I think this would help me a lot. regards

If you’re learning photography don’t worry about copying someone’s settings, learn why they use those settings and how it exposes your image
i have 14mm and it give for me lot of new emotions just really enjoy from it !!! i think to sell it after some time and go to 20mm i need one lens for everything and portraits as well but i was not abble to sell 14mm i just like it too much and now will be need to buy 20mm as well or 24mm
I shoot Street Photography with a 14mm lens all the time Started with a Samyang 14mm and just recently bought a Sony 14mm GM
oh man i really would love to be in a city that so many things happen, rails, shops, colors, big streets, small streets, lights, signs.. it kinda sucks where i am after 5-6 roams you have nothing to take photo of, everything looks the same
