Kinda like when Bran and Rickon hide in the crypts. Nobody even looked there because they were sure they’d have fled.

I think the idea of Dany's red door being painted black could parallel really well to all those POV character experiences of the Battle of the Blackwater, which had such notable features as smoke on the water and fire in the sky. Special mention must be made for Tyrion, as despite being from a very wealthy family, he ain't no fortunate son. It all will really pay off when he joins Jaime, zombie Jon and Maester Sam to discuss what to do about Dany, as he can explain just how bad things could get once the boys are back in town.

Fuck yeah, the red door is one of my favourite ASOIAF mysteries mainly because I also moved around a lot as a child and really struggle with my childhood memories and figuring out what was real and what was just a dream/misremembering so this feels really close to home, the fact that this one concept can completely throw Dany’s identity and her entire timeline into question is dope

It's one of my favorite things in the series. It resonates with me pretty strongly too, and it's one of the parts of the story that gets the most conspiratorial. And you know I love conspiratorial in this story lol

It is maybe the most correct theory for every come up with

"Death comes out of the dragons mouth, but death does not go in that way" In this passage, Tyrion is describing the strategy to attack a dragon with scrorpion or crossbow.. The eyes and the brain are the most vulnerable. The belly is not soft as the old tales would tell you, and "not down the gullet, either. That was madness."

As the resident time traveler, I came back to explain the plot of The Winds of Winter exactly.

Interesting. I never put much thought into the "Red Door means Dany isn't a real Targ" business...but it being a set up to allow gaslighting, disinformation, and doubt about her claim is a really interesting, wild, and plausible reading of that. Doesn't Dany have a repeating mantra to the effect of "If I doubt myself I am lost" or something? If she doubts herself and then loses it...we're in for a wild turn of events.

On holidays, but not as often as I'd like.

I went and watched paint it black after this and man i am so convinced. I also find story and in particular character inspiration in particular songs. And i see this EXACTLY in paint it black for dany. Pretty much every major character beat is touched on it that song. She could not forsee this thing happening to you about the unintended consequences of her actions such as with drogo. The girls walking by in summer clothes and that emphasis on summer is striking. If i look hard enough into the setting sun. What is in the direction of the setting sun? The west, westeros. Similar the mentions of my green sea could refer to the dothraki sea and not turning blue meanibg drogo not crossing the sea for her. People quickly looking away both being her and viserys when they were young, her touring the cities in the early books and when she returns to westerous as spectulated here. The mentioning of the newborn baby, mentioning of flowers and my love being jon, no colours anymore being a rejection of the houses system similar to the rejection of slavery. My love will laugh with me before the morning comes, in particular that her love will do something before morning. That dany wont see the morning, the end of the long night. The way the song builds up to painting everything black when we have a black dragon in the story where a point has been made of dragons having different coloured flames generally matching their scales and that aegon the conquerers dragon who drogon parallels had black flames. She will literally paint westerous black with drogos fire in the crescendo after the rising tension like in the song. Similarly, blotted out from the sky and blotting out the sun in particular could be ending the martels in parrallel to aegon and his sisters not doing so. Quentyn has already "died" to her dragons. But also drogon literally blotting out the sun and is described black as night at one point right? I genuinely cant not believe this now. Dany is literally the song paint it black!!!

It was pretty obvious he lives in Buffalo just by observing his behavior

Literally restoring my faith in humanity, slightly… not enough to balance things out… just enough to make me feel more lonely and wish for anyone to care about me enough to do such a thing.

Before this theory, I was looking into my own theory about Dany being a Blackfire, mostly based off the R+L=fA theory and the fact that black metal dragon sign came back rusted red. Now none of us will truly know the truth, as we will have to consider all evidence towards Dany being or not being a Targaryen as parts of elaborate information/misinformation campaigns.

Not done hearing the theory yet, so I'll edit if this is answered, but my immediate question/skepticism to Varys being successful in trying to gaslight Dany was "But she has REAL DRAGONS??" So like...obviously she's not a fake. Unless he has a way to take all of them, but that seems to be what Euron and Victarion's storyline is about. Like honestly, who would listen to Varys when she controls the only 3 living dragons in the world? And no hate to you guys, I am so happy I found your channel this weekend. Just me being a skeptic. Varys having her mom's crown is really fascinating and I never even considered he might do something like that (which IS a very Varys thing to do) So not answered, BUT that song tie in was really fucking cool. I wonder if Varys might just enact his plan before Dany comes to Westeros, so no one there would know the dragons are real. And that might just mess with her head hearing about it and not having a way to defend herself. And I can't believe Zach and Tom are from Gotham City. Blew my fucking mind.

Just to clarify for them, having three dragons would throw a wrench in things a bit (I personally think she'll lose them eventually, except for Drogon). But the idea is that she's a Blackfyre fake instead of a true Targaryen, when the opposite is what's likely to be true, being a Blackfyre makes her having a Dragon not impossible and could be explained to the court and understood by the smallfolk. (Especially if FAegon is somehow able to get one of her dragons).

They could be presented as blackfyre hence the dragons but what I really wonder is why do you want to make an enemy out of the only person with dragons in the world, even if she only has one left become people came to steal them, she still has a dragon, probably the biggest one even.

I don't talk about it much, but all my friends are surprised by that when I tell them that's what I've done since I got my first walkman. They just think of parallels to their life. GRRM doesn’t really do the name combo thing. Plus, there’s just really no states interaction between the two, and it’s explicitly stated that Aerys lost all interest in other women after 275 and there’s 0 evidence that that is untrue. Aside from a very desperate name stretch there’s just no reason to think this is true, unless Bran Stark is actually the son of his uncle and a member of house Dondarrion because Bran+Don. If GRRM was to make Dany someone other that who she says she is, he isn’t just going to make her a slightly less good Targaryen, she’ll be some random Lysene peasant girl or maybe a blackfyre. That would be thematically relevant and an actual blow. What’s the point of a bait and switch identity if your identity doesn’t actually change?
