Lincoln was always a bozo and a racist. Read "The South Was Right". It's a legit book. The South wanted slaves to vote and we wanted to secede because the north was putting bullshit tariffs on us. I would also read Gordon Wood's American Revolution because it's really short but comprehensive primer for the subject of early presidents and American leadership. Washington and Jefferson both have reall comprehensively recorded histories. they both have really good 5-6 volume biographies focused on them but that might be too much it's all just depending on how much time you can spare.Robert Caro did a multi volume biography on Lyndon Johnson which is amazing if you are looking for something more modern. lots of the information is still relative to current politics and social movements now.

As a history buff, this podcast is tingling my brain in ways I can't remember! The enthusiasm of the two, for sometimes trivial details of presidents past makes me want to go back to college and take more history courses. I would very much appreciate a second podcast, on JUST U.S. wars. That would be juicy. The small wars and the big ones!

Rewatched this so many times. Every time, Louis saying don't put this on patreon is such a feel good moment every single time.

The coolest part about these two episodes is to see that Louie treats Shane as a equal and not like a young buck

I've been listening to Louis CK on several different podcasts recently on a wide variety of topics. He's a brilliant man and such a pleasure. I'm a woman and when Me Too happened, I thought Louie had an immediate heartfelt apology that didn't try to minimize the women involved. He genuinely didn't understand the power imbalance. We need his voice and I'm so glad he's back. He never deserved what happened to him.

When Louie gets tired of touring, him and shane should really just go all in on comedic history. They do such a good job.

I went back and listened to old MSSP episodes, and it’s so cool to see how far you guys have come. I remember pre SNL Shane talking about how he was frustrated for not getting booked as much as lesser comics and how down he had gotten on himself… now he’s got a 4 part series with Louis CK and he gets to blow Christian McCaffrey once a month. Proud of the big dawg & the shaman.

Thank you Louis for keeping this free. I live in a country where I can't pay for this with our currency so I'm so God damn happy I could listen

This is genuinely great. Nerdy and typically irreverent. Love it.

The whole back-and-forth at 13:25 is stellar. Louis lets Shane talk about stuff he already knows, feeds him the points of the story so as to slyly alert Shane that he knows every single next thing, and Shane catches it at 13:41 Absolutely ridiculous conversational skills by Louis -- like a coach.

Louis was lighting Shane up there at the end about ad reads and Patreon; that was too funny with Shane being like “plz stop” 🤣😆. Ol’ boy had to pull rank! Lol jk Louis got some Hunter S Thompson vibes with them shades though! Great episode

My favorite quote to come out of the oval office has got to be Truman when he was speaking with Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was wringing his hands and lamenting about how terrible he felt and how he would never wash the blood from his hands and Truman told him to man the fuck up It was then that Oppenheimer famously told Truman that "I feel I have blood on my hands", which was unacceptable to Truman, who immediately replied that that was no concern of Oppenheimer's, and that if anyone had bloody hands, it was the president. He later remarked to an aide that he never wanted to see that "sniveling weakling again" It just serves as a reminder that not every president reveled in the tough decisions they had to make.

One of the funniest parts of this pod is the 7 seconds of uninterrupted silence after Shane tries to throw Louis a premise he didn’t like and Shane starting to mess with gardini immediately afterward the school bully energy was hard

Veterans of the GEORGE WASHINGTON'S army in the Revolutionary War were paid in IOUs, which the government was unable to honor for years. Because these were mostly poor farmers who couldn't wait to get that income for their service, they ended up selling all the IOUs to investors for pennies on the dollar. Years later, once investors had bought up all the IOUs, they pushed the government to make good on their debts, and were able to cash in the IOUs for the full amount. The men who won us this country got screwed out of their paychecks.

Shays rebellion was a direct result of this failure to make good on what they owed the revolutionary war veterans. These poor farmers were being threatened with debtors prison by the very same people who did not pay them.

LOVE THIS SERIES. Excellent job, gentlemen. Only thing I would change is when you said everything was cool under Hoover. It was literally the Great Depression lol. This series inspired me to read so many autobiographies - and I’m very thankful for this. Y’all are fkn awesome 🙏🙏🙏🙏

O’Connor also loves dick. We saw all the dawgs in Nashville. Shane, gardini, lemaire, Nate Marshall, Brian six. Everyone was pretty good, Shane was amazing, O’Connor was awful. It was uncomfortable how bad he was.

This is the best. Even the awkward ad reads at the end were freaking gold

This may very well be the best two parts podcast I have ever seen.
