    Big thumbs up for the RX100 series (I use the Mark 4) they are so good I have left my Nikon D7500 at home whenever I'm not sure I will use it! I also just got a GoPro Hero 8 black as my Hero 5 session's battery just died to fast (to bad was the smallest camera with good video)! Ow and I also take mostly my Phone with me on the bike together with a GoPro, my RX100 only when I'm at a great spot (like the mountains in Switzerland), my next phone WILL have a periscope lens though, I have missed a few shots because I couldn't get close enough (cute fox for example)!

    Great photography work (y). I would say the compact camera's are the sweet spot, especially if you are interested in shooting raw and doing some post production. I too have been shooting with an RX camera and my only real gripe are the fiddly buttons. That being said the Fuji looking like a great alternative .... Also its worth considering used camera's? The camera will get beaten up and its a good place to save money if the cameras are pre beaten haha.

    Great video! I've been personally getting into bird photography but only while hiking. But I finally got a gravel bike and now am seeing more wildlife on the bike, i found the possibly of a camera with a bike is the most powerful idea yet! For wildlife a large focal length is required which with interchangeable lens cameras can cost thousands and the 600mm lenses are massive, just not something im into. So ive got a small sensor zoom camera and its still fairly large, but I'm thinking of getting a backpack to take it on rides with me

  • @JustRideAdelaide

    Zoom lenses really ruin compact setups. My Fuji + 50-140 lens is relatively compact but I don't want to ride too far with it just bouncing on my back. I use a Crumpler messenger bag for when I need to ride far with that rig

    @@JustRideAdelaide yea its pretty big, not just the lens but the whole body. Honestly it's generally poor image quality, a poor performer interms of auto focus, low light etc. But... I was expecting that. The build quality is great and I only needed it for the specific purpose of bird photography, which for the price is the best option out there. JPEGs are only 3 - 4mb but I guess it does counteract the poor quality by including raw format, files are 25mb and low light photos can be saved

    Don't forget the Ricoh GR. Fits easily in any pocket. Take it out, switch on, adjust metering if necessary, shoot - all fast and easy in one go with one hand. Great APS-C image quality from a great little lens. Only useable for photos, though, and not very rugged. And no viewfinder. Get the original GR with 16MP if you don't want to waste too much money, it's still great. You have to reduce yourself to one fixed focal length. But there is no other compact camera like this.

    I’m a landscape photographer and cycle a lot with my camera in the nature. I wanted to have really good image quality so phone or compact camera was not an option. At the same time I wanted to have as big coverage of focal lengths as possible. I decided to go APSC instead of full frame because of the size of the lenses and since 2019 I use xt20. Generally I carry 3 lenses as I go cycling. Everything is the special handlebar bag for camera gear - it is more convenient than backpack. However I had to mount kick stand to all my bikes because without it stopping to take a picture is inconvenient - if you want to take off the saddle you have to close the bag before to protect the rest of the lenses from falling out

    I use a Lumix TZ100 compact for cycling. While the Sony RX100 is arguably better I can buy 3 TZ100s for the same cost of that or an Iphone if damaged. I leave my smartphone at home too and take a cheap phone. My Garmin gives me the navigation and syncs to Strava when I get home. TZ100 fits nicely in my back pocket and can be ready to capture a moment in seconds. Works for me, sadly Panasonic don't sell it any more but good copies available second hand.

    I see on your IG that you've moved to the Canon R6 from the XT4, may I ask why? pros and cons? I've been debating on whether to go deep into Fuji to shoot cycling races or if I should go to Canon for that. Not exactly impressed with the AF of my XT3 but it feels SO GOOD to shoot with compared to the Sony FF I sold.

  • @JustRideAdelaide

    @JustRideAdelaide

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey mate! Yes indeed I went with the R6. The short version of the story is autofocus. The Fuji AF is pretty good for general shooting but it can't cut the mustard for fast moving action. I really wanted the Fuji system to be a sleeper sports rig. I had the best body with the best lens - 50-140 f2.8 - and it missed way too often. Ya just can't afford to miss the big moments in sport because they only happen once. I still really like Fuji cameras and lenses. I've trimmed the collection back to my X-T1 and the 16 mm f1.4, and 35 mm f2. My favourite on-bike shooting camera is now the Ricoh Griii. It's so damn compact and the image quality is superb.

  • @JustRideAdelaide

    @JustRideAdelaide

    2 жыл бұрын

    Oh, and if you're thinkin of going Canon, I've been pretty happy with the R6. AF performaance is excellent, 20 megapixels is plenty, and the camera handles brilliantly. The biggest problem is RF lenses. They're all so damn expensive! I have the 24-70 and 70-200 2.8s and they cost a lot and the affordable lenses don't focus fast enough - the 35mm f1.8 is a fantastic lens but it's slow. Sony is the far better platform for lens variety to suit a range of budgets right now.
