The official PPI of my fraudulent Ferrari | My CNC Motors story (part 6)

Disclaimer I was not paid or endorsed by Salerno Motorsports. I just like them and trust their work.
I took my Ferrari 360 in for a Post Purchase Inspection (PPI) Or if you have one done before a purchase, its a Pre Purchase Inspection. I've heard good things about Salerno Motorsports and decided to have them take a look. After all I've been through, I can't say I'm even phased anymore by the disappointment of this experience.
I know its a long video, but I didn't want to leave anything out. Check out Dan at Normal Guy Supercar for more CNC Victim stories: / dbhurlbert

You have to be kidding me. The first thing I want to see in a ppi is a checklist. A huge checklist of all the things that are going to be checked. You see, if you don’t have one, then you walk away from a ppi and discover real quick all of the things that weren’t checked.

I wouldn't do the thrust / main bearing issue, if the motor seems to be ok. Reason is, you can get a working used 360 motor for far less than the 20-25k. Even eBay has them now for 9-11k on average and 17k on the high end. I'd get a 10k motor and spend 5k on install.

I have owned a lot of exotic/sports cars. Some new, some old, and these are probably the worse PPI results I have ever seen... I personally feel that even if you spend the money to fix the car, more issues are going to continue to pop up as you go along. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if you are into the car for about what you bought it for in total repairs when everything is said and done. I think your best course of action is to get out of the car and mitigate your losses as best as you can. Then start fresh searching for another 360. Armed with the knowledge you have now, you will end up in a much better car and spend far less in the long run.

The less you know the more careful you need to be. I have bought lots of exotics with no PPI because I have the background and the confidence to take on the unexpected. That experience allows for great deals to be had. Would be owners need to wrap their head around the fact that bargain basement deals and the opportunity to do full due diligence do NOT go together. I applaud Matt for being so transparent with his learning process and the realities of his car. Many people would have stayed quiet and passed the car on to another person.

Mr. Salvo, I am truly sorry for your situation on the 360. I have a similar issue with an airplane I purchased, even with a PPI in which I participated. Most were hidden and would've taken a lot of disassembly well beyond a pre purchase inspection to discover. Ironically, I've spent about the same amount as a Ferrari 360 costs on repair amounting to about 70% of the airplane's value. For my humor coping mechanism I painted the rocker box (valve covers) rosso corsa red on the new engine and there's a Ferrari decal on the new instrument panel memorializing the Ferrari I was going to buy before I found all of the issues. Again, I am truly sorry that you're going through this and I hope you resolve the title issue and are able to get the car repair so you can enjoy it. I hope the winds of fortune change to a more favorable direction for you..

The last ferrari I bought was the 1982 308 GTSi and was a auction mistake, the winner bidded $45k and I stopped at $40k, I thought it was over then I got an e-mail asking me if I would like to purchase the car for $40k ,I said yes but I will fly out to pickup and drive it to Florida and get it ready I gave him 1 week and pay for it in Scottsdale AZ! At that time I had 20 years of research and experience with the 308 and I was bound and determined not to truck this car! I arrived ,I did my walkaround and inspected the fusebox then the engine fluids and trans fluid! then we drove it to my bank and I gave the past owner a cashiers check for $40k USD, we went back to my hotel and he gave me the manuels/paper work/logbooks/title, I gave him a copy of the insurance binder! Now I was driving under his state plates and as agreed once I transfered title/registration/plates to me I would return his plates to him, well I made it and so did the car!!

I bought a manual 360 this January. I had a PPI done at a Ferrari main dealer which came back with €15k of work needed. I used this to negotiate the price down and I bought the car. In the end I spent €25k making it mechanically perfect and it has been worth every penny! These cars are amazing once they are sorted out! The key is to keep on top of the maintenance every year and not let it build up. Pay the money, get it sorted and you’ll have your dream car and all you’ll need in 12 months is an oil change!

As a big fan of the 360 Modena and in current search mode for one that is as close to perfect as possible for the right money I am heartbroken by your continued misfortune. I am a fan of the PPI but have been mostly penny wise and pound foolish when it came to actually having one performed. In the past, I have relied entirely on ownership/maintenance history records to make my purchases. To this point I've been relatively lucky with a minimum of financial outlay for repairs. I've been trying to make a logical suggestion as far as how you should proceed; perhaps a good attorney (more expense), and adding your name to the list of CNC complainants at your local AG's office. I think you may want to consult Normal Guy Supercar for a manual shift conversion for your car which may be less expensive. The F1 transmission is a high maintenance component and could be prone to more heartache even after repair. I wish you the best as you move forward and will be watching for more videos in the future.

I'm not sure why you think that adding another $20k on a manual 6-speed conversion on top of all of the other expenses is somehow going to work out to be cheaper. In the manual conversion they don't replace the transmission, as the F1 and gated six transmissions are identical. The only difference is the F1 transmission is hydraulically actuated instead of having a manual shift lever/linkage. They just remove the F1 pump, hydraulic actuator, install a shift lever/linkage and a clutch pedal, then re-program the ECU/TCU so that it knows that it's a manual. The actual transmission, gears, bears, clutch, etc aren't replaced.

Dying on bolsters would be common on any car one that's been taken care of. Paint metering a Ferrari is in my opinion a waste of time because a car that low to the ground, is going to have rock chips if its used and will likely be repainted. That repair expense is too high for a 360. Not to say it's not fair, but at that level of expense, you won't see the return on resale.

@@JetFire9 Yep, only people that will get anything are the lawyers because CNC is just going to file for bankruptcy when the judgment is made. There is probably very little money left to fully resolve all the issues. it looks like Clay was robbing Peter to pay Paul. The only people who got or will get anything are the people like that guy Shane who went after CNC earlier on when this first started blowing up and got their car and/or money back. Now that this thing has been blown wide open and every owner is jumping on CNC, it's very unlikely most of those folks will get anything and the courts will have to figure out who ultimately gets to keep the cars. What a mess.

Unfortunately when the tech was trying to reinstall the transmission they damaged the trans. They called Maserati Italy and they advised to replace the ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. Hi Matt! I know you don’t know me, but if I may, I’d like to weigh in on your dilemma. First, I’m sorry you’re going through this. As a fellow enthusiast and fan, it hurts to see this experience come forward, so I emphasize with you. Second, you made an important point towards the end. “This was an emotional decision.”When you reach this level of the car enthusiast experience, most of it is emotional, and that’s ok to me. After taking a minute to walk a mile in your shoes, if I were you, I’d decide to move forward with the 360. My reasoning is you only have one first dream car purchase. Sure, the beginning is being sucky, but think of the memories that can be made once it’s done....finally being able to realize your dream as it was originally intended. Obviously, if the money factor doesn’t make sense then by all means walk away. I’m not saying put your livelihood on the line, but if you have the ability, I say go for it. I see hurdles like these as just that. Hurdles. It’s one step in the way of achieving the goal of enjoying my first supercar. I also see them as opportunities for learning and deepening your appreciation for these cars and what they entail mechanically. Unfortunately, your example is one of what not to do, but it’s still a lesson learned. That’s a good thing. I hope this brings a little bit different perspective on your journey with this car, and I hope to see more on it soon. Thanks and take care!

Matt got what is called a fixer upper. Get the title sorted out, then over time get this car back into shape. It is a "classic", it is going to require work over the next 5-20 years to keep it going. Slowly get it back in action. I disagree with those that recommend tossing it. It is your car (almost). Make it a project to get it perfect again by 2025 or so and enjoy it.

  • @gregs8685
    @gregs86853 жыл бұрын

Cut your losses. Option A: Once title is sorted put it up on Bring a Trailer No Reserve. There are idiots there willing to pay way above what it is worth even with the issues disclosed. Option B: trade it in on another car at a dealer. It may take 10 attempts but you will likely find a dealer willing to give you decent trade value for what it is. Obviously you will need to deal with your loan balance but it’s all about minimizing your losses at this point.

On the bright side aside from the paint, frame, engine, transmission, suspension, air conditioning components, and interior the car is in perfect shape! This is a great example of why non "car guys" should always buy vehicles with a warranty. I guess the problem is that you don't know what you don't know. Researching online isn't the same as practical experience. Not knowing about a paint meter for example. It's expensive but you're gaining valuable knowledge. Luckily values are still going up on your car so it's at least not mechanically totalled.
