THE NOVANS: A race of humans who live in a distant galaxy, who are the descendants of the crew of the Ancient ship Destiny.
The Novans are a space-faring civilization, brought about through a time-travel accident that sent a version of the Destiny crew 2,000 years into the past. maybe it was planned to eventually show up later on in the show, but we wouldn't know because the show was ended for good. it's entirely possible that they could have run into a space ship with the other survivors who left that planet in ships and continued on another planet nearby that the SGU crew would eventually run into, and maybe these people have solutions into fixing the ships issues as they have lived and advanced themselves on some of the destiny tech, which they based all of their tech designs on, so it's entirely possible that they are compatible with the Destiny's tech. anyway, this is an example of how it could be done to bring them back, and it very well could have been planed by the writers to introduce some time later in the series.

A “Stargate: Novus” series could be pretty cool. Imagine a series about humans in a distant galaxy where people from our time are their ancients. Maybe they eventually connect with Earth and explain the little they know about the Destiny crew. you know, it's almost easier to accept the ending of SGU within this episode, and never their past selves discovering the footage of what happened. like outside of the cliffhanger of SGU, this episode they lived their entire lives within this time traveling circumstance, they built an entire society that lasted for over 2,000 years. sure the original crew were long since dead at this point, but it was quite the journey they ended up living and they lived on creating a working civilization. it feels like a better ending than what we got in the present day of SGU with the endless cliffhanger of the Destiny crossing the galaxy gap, leaving Eli outside while everyone were in the pods as Eli needed to fix one to work for himself.

The Novan arc was the best potential direction the show could have went in to save the show. SGU messed up big time. They treated the Novans like an "alien of the week" type of thing, but nothing about the outcome makes any sense in lore. 1) Their biggest problem in the show to this point is they are alone and barely surviving. They discover the perfect situation with an advanced race of humans, literally their descendants, and they are like..."That's OK, we are just going to keep moving on into uncertainty and danger." No. That doesn't make any sense based off the motivations of show, the crew, or anything. And don't give me that "oh the purpose of the show is to discover the big secret"....nothing about the Novan arc would have stopped or hindered this. 2) They have control of the Destiny, the Novan computer core info, and they know in the general directions and destinations of the colonies and ships traveling as "sub-light" speeds. It had only been like 30 years......so how is the Destiny not able to catch the other ships? Or get to the known colony worlds? There were many and we saw like two or three. That doesn't make any sense. Why would the crew of Destiny not go looking for them or their worlds. 3) We don't know the relationship of the drones to the colonists. We don't know if they are really at war, being hunted, or have nothing to do with each other colonies and colonists. But when in Stargate history has anyone every been like, "Look we know you have this horrible evil that can possibly hurt you, but we are just too busy to help." You know darn well, they would have at least asked a question or two, or looked into this. Nothing about the decisions or the behaviors of the crew really make any sense about this whole situation. It's almost like the writers knew they backed themselves into a corner....and had to break lore just to get them out of it. 4) We also know that the both the creators and the writers were well aware at this point that show was on life support and not looking at a next season. Wouldn't this have been a better ending of the story? For the ship and crew to find out that they are not alone after all, fight a dangerous enemy and win, and realize that like the Ancients before them, the mystery just wasn't worth it, and let it go so they can live a normal happy life? Or...if you absolutely had to, let the crew be happy and safe while letting Rush fly off into the unknown like he wanted to do all along?

The show had so much potential. This story was more plausible than the original plot. When you're dealing with time displacement. Any future is possible. A twelve hour displacement could either place you thousands of years into the past or future. While the present you would be traveling into the future not knowing that you were actually living before you were born.

honestly, connecting with the Novans could have given them the boost they needed for two-way travel with earth. It is unfortunate that the drones were so close behind them, most likely the Novans will have been hunted to extinction within a few years no matter what destiny did. Especially having ships and using stargates - by the time destiny did their last ditch effort to escape, the drones had gone to every star and stargate location for lightyears to wait for them to show up, so... RIP novans

I recently found the six issue comic book series that continues where Universe left off and it was rather interesting… so I was extremely disappointed to realize that not only was season 2 where the show ended, but also the comic book arc was just that - a single arc, which left the series on as much of a cliff hanger as season 2 left Universe. Ugh, I want more stargate so bad, and I would love more universe too. I keep hearing about that “new series” but I’ve been hearing about that for the better part of the last decade. I get that manufacturing modern clothes would be difficult and certain technologies would still need to be invented. However, the style and accessories is totally unnecessary. It would actually cost more time and materials to make those dresses.

If it had though, it'd basically be the same conclusion as the weird & depressing BSG remake that SGU was heavily basing all its "stylistic" cues from. IMO I think MGM was grossly unwise to make SGU at all, given their financial situation and poor options for locations (filming in Canada for instance having jumped in cost), with the result being a halfbaked series that was unable to make full use of its concept, and was loathed by most of the existing fanbase... no wonder it was a flop.

@@jimtaylor294 i suppose they looked at it as stargate was their only cash cow, and they thought since they were very close to running out of money, they decided to do a hail marry play by creating a series that was expensive but also that the money put into it would turn around and make them loads of money, but the story was very much based on what you said BSG style, the story wasn't that bad, but it was kind of bad because it focused a little too much on the idea of drama and conflict with the crew and it really extended out that mood to the point where fans were having a hard time watching it and wanting to watch it. so they had the bad ratings, and things were not looking good for both MGM and the show, again the story isn't that bad, it's just that drama and conflict overstayed it's welcome within the first few episodes and decided to take it even further into the season, it wasn't until season 2 where they put aside their issues and attempted to survive their situation and work together, it's just too bad that it took that long and then during the middle of their season where things in the story started looking good and some of the fans came back to watch the show, MGM fully went bankrupt and the show essentially was set in motion to end the series and it was left on a cliffhanger as if it were going to eventually come back at some point, but never did. i think MGM should have maybe invested that money into something that would bring in the money, but instead they relied entirely on the show and it's earnings, that's some bad management of their money if you ask me.

@@jimtaylor294 the other reasons why i believe they moved on from Atlantis straight to SGU, is because they knew what would sort of jump start engagement was a new series, but this new series obviously didn't go all that well. now outside of the things that most people hated in SGU, i think outside these issues the show was relatively good, but with MGM's poor management and everything just falling apart and this was their last ditch effort to jump start engagement, everything just went downhill and never could recover. brad wright actually wanted to do a more serious science fiction for many years, but he was limited in doing this until SGU, but in order to do it, they essentially had to stop all production of the other shows to do it. but having a more serious show didn't translate very well with fans because many people liked the cartoony way that episodes always ended on a good standing on each episode, Brad liked his work on all shows, but he really wanted to do a survival realistic kind of show and that's what SGU essentially was. anyway, sorry for the long post, for some reason i always make them too long as i can't seem to help it lol.

SGU has "BSG remake clone" all over it, and is as unlikable as it too. (not to mention commits most of the same sins as that god awful remake)

@@CZpersi the fact that they actually *wanted* to make a show that was barren, desolate, rotten, life exhausted etc is even more of a slap in the face! How did this show ever get green lit? Whoever was in charge was blacklisted from ever working in TV again I hope, for gross professional incompetence.

This is one example SGU was such a bad series, that storyline is so stupid, it takes a lot willing suspension of disbelief to swallow. They had a lot of technology to jump start, 2000 years meant they would have accomplished _a lot_ . They were capable of interstellar flight, they could have settled moons and asteroids nearby, and save lots of people. Bad show, bad writing.
