THE GENII: A secretive and militaristic society, the Genii endured generations of persecution at the hands of the Wraith. This drove their society underground, where they could advance technologically - and develop weapons of war in the hopes of one day striking back against their enemy ...

Solid work, but there was one small inaccuracy. Acastus Kolya was not sent to take Atlantis, and was only sent to raid it for materials & tech. Kolya's power grab began with him attempting to take the city to increase his own personal standing with the Genii.
When even Miles O'Brien couldn't make a civilization advance fast enough to kill Wraiths, you know you're fucked.

I love a good protagonist outwits antagonists story, but sometimes I just wanna see some shock and awe. I would've loved to see the Genii shitting themselves and being humbled by the sight of BC-304s, F-302s, and the plethora of Asgard tech Atlantis has at its disposal. I would've loved an episode where the guys on Atlantis finally snapped and had some BC-304s beam out the Genii's Stargate as a show of force.

The Atlantis expedition and genii could of had a good alliance if it was done right, Atlantis could provide knowledge, technology and medical etc and genii could provide nukes, food and ammo etc and both went on trips together fighting the wraith
@uc3362
Жыл бұрын
@@tylersoto7465 I'm not sure an alliance between Atlantis and the Genii would have gone that way. Weapons and nukes from Earth are way more advanced and more powerful than what the Genii could offer. But, they can provide additional troops and their network of spies all over the Galaxy could have be a real asset.
The Genii's biggest flaw is that they frequently push their paranoia into actively counterproductive levels. They are frequently so convinced the other party is going to stab them in the back that the Genii think going for the backstab first is the most logical choice, which (even if it works) gives them a short-term (and possibly temporary) gain at the cost of getting a reputation as untrustworthy pariahs.

The premise of the Lucian alliance that by us eliminating the Goa’uld their worlds suffered didn’t sound realistic. Goa’uld don’t take care of any of the human worlds. They cull them for hosts and use them as slaves. They don’t feed them or anything.
@SuperMIKevin
3 жыл бұрын
@@2bituser569 if you are looking at them from the perspective of a normal society then yes that would make it seem like the premise is flawed but in reality, the Goa'uld were rulers, while they did not provide any democracy, they provided order, everyone had a purpose, people were slaving for them and nobody was above anyone else, while they may not have brought food from planet to planet to make sure there was enough food for everyone, most people had a share, the weak died or were killed which allowed more food to go around. when they were gone the order they provided disappeared, the strong among the humans took what they wanted without concern for the weak, gangs must of started to fight amongst themselves for more power. the point is, it's hard to create a governing body when you have never had one, especially when you all have been slaves all your lives, you don't trust anyone to govern over you, as it was shown in the Lucian alliance, they behaved much like the gods that ruled them, if you were an alliance leader and you were too weak in the eyes of the other leaders it was accepted that factions would form against you and take over your territory. let's not forget that joining the Lucian alliance is not an option, kids are taken and made into soldiers, you can also imagine this being the case from the very formation of the gangs on those individual planets, if you want to eat, you better join my gang. so in conclusion the power vaccum left by the Goa'uld created a state of constant war among the freed slave humans. very realistic if you look at our own history, very human, very predictable.
@2bituser569
3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperMIKevin I agree with many points but one. We usually do see leadership on these slave serf worlds. Abydos had Sha’re’s father and presumably others below him when Ra was normally absent for a few generations. I would assume their lifespans were likely shorter like 40-50’s like it was about 100 years in most countries. There would be a generation or two that never had the experience of seeing Ra return. My impression these worlds pretty much ruled themselves for most part. Sure they come and grab some for hosts or naquada miners or to make more Jaffa as needed if populations got low due to wars.
I never considered the Genii as threatening, they just were too backward technologically to pose a credible threat to the Atlantis forces. They could only succeed when extreme measures were taken to nerf the good guys. Realistically if they were a sufficient threat the Deadalus could park in orbit and obliterate them unopposed with plasma beams and the transporters.

In all Stargate, Anubis was the best villain to me, with Baal a close second (Rip Cliff Simon, you were a great actor and a good guy). In Atlantis, they never identify a clear nemesis. It's tragic how the Genii could have easily been staunch allies of the Tauri, but having lived a secretive subterranean life for so long meant they were too aggressive and mistrustful towards outsiders.
Give them 100 years and they could have beat the wraith by themselves tbh
@IIGrayfoxII

Not really, their radiation exposure was bad. They didn't have enough shielding on their reactors. They had no way to attack the wraith that were in space. Building a ship is not easy, even more so one with FTL ability, If any wraith found out what is happening they will do to the Genji what they did to Satida or the Hoffan. All it takes is 1 genji being caught by the wraith during a strike for their entire secret to be exposed.

That was the geniis own undoing. They lost a good ally with Atlantis by not accepting that even the best planned missions can go tits up. Accepting that the lost person is a price for valuable intel on your enemy and the development of an ally equally looking to defeat your enemy would have made a much better move. In the series because they're tech was so many decades behind earths they were more a pest than anything else. The wraith were always forefront as the baddies until their defeat.
