This is the second time you did an eye roll test. I feel like you should do a full on hypnosis session

Your insights on correlation between eye movements and hypnotizability, tied to brain's arousal mechanisms are really fascinating! It's intriguing to see how our brain's arousal mechanisms are linked with such seemingly simple actions.

'5' is the upper end of a person's hypnotizability, but great change and valuable impact can be seen with individuals across the scale.

My theory on why EMDR works is based in Neuroscience as explained by Dr. Dan Siegel's work in Interpersonal neurobiology and is also explained by Peter Levine in Somatic Experiencing. Trauma stores in the body in five areas: sensations, imprint, meaning, behavior and affect. To move trauma from working memory, where it is relived when the physiology matches up, you must walk through the trauma (this is the exposure) while keeping the hippocampus regulated. The hippocampus puts a timestamp on the event allowing it to go to long-term memory. Also, the exposure should be titrated, as to not traumatize. As a trauma treatment practitioner, this is what we do daily at my practice. It is exciting!- Dr.Kimberly Dunkin PysD, LPC, SEP,

'0' correlates with lower hypnotizability, whereas '5' is the top end.

That's actually interesting. Are you familiar with the Japanese concept of "sanpaku"? George Ohsawa, the founder of Macrobiotics, famously supposedly predicted the death of John F. Kennedy by a family method passed down from samurai days of gauging an opponent's power level on the battlefield by how much of the sclera is visible. The Cliff's Notes version is, sclera visible under the eye, like Stallone, JFK, Lady Diana, is physical imbalance. Sclera visible over the eye, like Charles Manson or Hilary Clinton is mental imbalance. Sclera visible over and under is RUN AWAY.

fun fact. When i was an undergrad, i took a course in hypnosis. I signed up for a study for him to test for hypnotic suseptibility. (he did start his class on day one with a simple test and he did do it in a lecture hall. all but three of us are stadning with our hands folded, etc. the rest of the people are standing with one hand in the sky, the other pointing at the ground) fast forward to the end of the experiment: I got a score of ZERO. His best guess is that i am not hynotizable because i have a strong personality and cannont relinquish personal control. He said "are you from the woods, a rural area, or a farmer?" If i could have broken the fourth wall on the movie of my life, that would have been a great time to stare at the camera and WINK. Why yes, all of the above. Individuals who are driven in a personal way CANNOT be controlled in that way because..tehy are always THINKING, not FEELING or OBEYING. Which is why purple hair, tattoos, pajama pants and t shirts with foul slogans on them are essentially just ear tags for cattle. "and now you know the rest of the story!"

@@huehuehuey not really. both myself the professor were surprised. His hypothesis was based along the fact that people who lived in urban or suburban areas had more "influence" based on sensory input. His idea was that the level and quality of sensory input may make people more hypnotizable, and he was workign with the science department to maybe see if there was some sort of genetic link. in all, i was the first class - day one - failure. so, he wanted to know the WHY. He has been gone a long time. i never followed up. Was he "onto something" or am i just a funk in the data. So ego, no. UNSURPRISING? No.

Agree. The doc sometimes mumbles or runs his words together, sometimes loses the thread, and sometimes uses unfamiliar jargon most folks don’t understand. It’s almost as of he’s doing it on purpose. I listened to most of this on the podcast version and when he starts giving hypnotic directions/commends to Tim, Tim has to stop and ask for clarification - this seemed to irritate the doc. I don’t know what’s up, but he’s frustrating, this guy - a poor-to-fair communicator, which isn’t a good thing in his profession. A bit egotistical, too.
