The History of Islamic Gaza (Part 01/02) | Al Muqaddimah

From the River, to the Sea...
Gaza is a city that has been gifted and cursed by geography. For a long time, this city has been battered from both sides and every single time, the city stood strong and managed to dust itself off and rebuild. This is the story of the great city of Gaza.

Oh boy. You're going to be a target for the propaganda bots, disinformation trolls and low-infornation political agitators now! Thanks for volunteering to be the sacrificial lamb amongst all of us academics on the sidelines watching this mess. 😊😂😮. No. Seriously. Thank you for your dedication to real history. I might not always agree entirely with your perspective on this world region, but I would rather listen to what you have to say than pretty much anyone else. There's rarely been such a gap between what academic historians know about the subject and what the general public knows. That apparently includes many Palestinians (something which used to surprise me) but it's even worse outside Israel/Palestine. I do think the story of Palestine since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire has been a bit contorted even amongst some academics, sadly. Even Edward Said, whose work I adored in grad school, I've since realized would commonly omit some fairly significant early events during the British Mandate. (Sigh). And I do think there is a persistent problem in the Arab world since 1918 which can be summarized in a phrase: "a failure to successfully modernize and reform because of excessive reverence for the glories of a lost medieval theocratic empire and civilization."

@@t95kush27 i notice you forget the part where it was a Jewish city under Jewish control. But there is a lot wrong with what your saying regardless. First off, he's not a native to the land. Second, international law doesn't care about your claims. Third, it's a Jewish city right now, who don't want to be part of any Arab state and don't consider themselves occupied. Who are you to tell the population if they are occupied? Fourth, yeah I don't think we should give land back to native Americans. People live there NOW. Should we expel hundreds of millions of people so a few million can get their land back? If we want to go down that route, should we give back posen and Danzig and Silesia to Germany because the soviet's expelled Germans living there off their land? Should we force millions of belorussia to give back their land to poles living there before WW2? Should land be given back to Serbia before other countries declared independence? It's simply a nonsensical notion. We move towards in time not back.

There exist no Muslim Palestinians. They were created in 1963 by the PLO. Prior to that they were an Arab resistance movement formed in the 1920s by The Muslim Brotherhood and Amin al-Husseini, and came from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The Gazans are the Egyptians, thus they have no nativity at all to Gaza. They all had Egyptian citizenship but Egypt denied many of them access and entry to their own homeland due to their dedication to terrorism. The actual native Palestinians were the Christians and Jewish natives, and in this century the Christians relocated to Lebanon and sold their land to new Jewish settlers. Mainly because the land was barren, had no water or electricity and the land was very difficult to grow anything on. This changed with the Jewish settlers.

@@mostafasamy8751 the story of Omar RA and the church is well-known. You even cited the reason why. He did not want the legacy of the resident Christians to be erased by a mosque erected by future generations. If you are asking for the Islamic 'hokm/fiqh' permitting it, then youtube comments of a Palestine video is the wrong place to do so. You will lead people astray like this. Just know that Omar RA (while the best of us all and a prime exemplar) did not have divine revelation and is not our prophet. His reasons for the anti-conversion of the church (while well-founded) are not a component of Islamic fiqh, and are limited by space and time to his specific situation.

Do you that arab countries didn't come majority Muslims until 16th - 17th centuries..? Basically jews and christians lived relative peacefully under muslims since 632 They were prefer that considering the situation in Europe at that time If they didn't like they can overthrew the government in long time ago in Umayyed caliph All that change with Ottoman collapse and western colonialism and zionist movements

the way you spell the name of gaza in Arabic through the video, you spell it like you took the "g" from the English word "gaza" and change it to a ghain "غ" without any other modification. but in actuallity the correct way to spell is to spell it is "gha Za" (the capitalization is for emphasis)

Caring for Gaza and its people has nothing to do with supporting Hamas. The women and children being murdered definitely aren’t Hamas, conflating the two is like saying that the Irish are the IRA.
