Let’s talk about arthritis. There is an interesting cause of arthritis that not many people know about. This hidden cause of arthritis is iron overload.
Our bodies don’t have a mechanism to get rid of excess iron, and too much iron in the body is toxic. One of the first symptoms of iron overload is arthritis in the hands and knees.
Other symptoms of iron overload:
• Fatigue
• Abdominal pain
• Bronze skin
• Liver cirrhosis
• Diabetes
• Erectile dysfunction
• Hypogonadism
• Increased infection
Excess iron is especially toxic to the liver, pancreas, and heart. The more the liver is damaged, the more problems you’ll have with iron.
Top causes of iron overload:
• Taking Tylenol
• Consuming a high-carb diet
• Consuming molasses
• Taking multivitamins
• Consuming too much red meat and not enough vegetables
• Consuming red meat with sugar or starches
Understanding what to do with your diet is crucial if you have iron overload. If you have this problem, you don’t want to start adding more iron to your diet. Fiber can help reduce iron overload. Consuming red meat with vegetables high in fiber may be beneficial.
Remedies for iron overload:
• Phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate IP6)
• Green tea
• Cilantro
• Quercetin
Donating blood can be beneficial for iron overload. Doing what you can to improve your liver is also very important. To learn more about how to improve your liver function, check out my other videos.

I stopped using cast iron pans a few years ago after reading an article how the iron leaches into the food you cook and accumulates in your system. It mentioned how the older we get the harder it is for the iron to leave your body while for the younger generation it gets eliminated much quicker. I don't want or need extra iron in my senior years I get enough from food. Thank you, Dr. Berg for your informative videos.

After 40 years of carpentry, my hands and knees were shot, but I started keto and IF four years ago TODAY and the arthritis I HAD in both areas is completely gone! Ten years ago, when I retired, I could barely grasp a cup of coffee and if I kneeled down, I'd have to pull myself up on an end table or whatever. All that inflammation is gone now and it's truly unbelievable! Thanks a lot to Dr. Berg!

Dr. Berg! I have been dealing with pain since 2021. I couldn’t open a bottle of water and had constant pain walking, sitting, standing and sleeping! I’ve had X-rays, MRI’s and physical therapy for my knees and nothing helped. I came across this video and was reminded that I had started taking the One a Day multivitamins for women in 2021. Since before then my blood work always showed slight iron deficiency/anemia. But since taking the multivitamin my last 3 blood tests showed that my levels were normal. (I only eat red meat a few times a year) However, when I was iron deficient I never had knee pain or pain in my hands. Long story long, I stopped taking the One a Day multivitamin a week and a half ago, started drinking more green tea and I AM SO MIND BLOWN!! Within a few days my symptoms improved drastically! Before, I wasn’t able to use any cardio machines and for the first time in over 6 months I could walk on a treadmill. I feel so blessed to have come across this information and I am forever grateful!!! Thank you for sharing. ❤🙏

Dr. Berg - you forgot to mention getting your Ferritin checked. I have Hemochromatosis. I was diagnosed 4 years ago at age 57. My Ferritin at that time was 4580. Yes, that’s correct. I was experiencing night sweats and leg cramps every single night. I had a liver biopsy performed (you’re awake during this) and they found that Iron had caused Fibrosis in my liver. At around the same time they diagnosed me with a severe fatty liver. I was 321lbs at 5’11” and had a waist that was 60” around. I was eating vegetarian and consuming a lot of carbs. I immediately went Keto and I have lost 150lbs. I’m now 171lbs. I have gone through dozens of phlebotomy treatments where they take a pint of blood out of you - first it was weekly, the monthly, and now quarterly. I will require phlebotomy treatments for the rest of my life. My waist is now 34”. Back in April I had Open Heart Surgery to replace a congenitally defective aortic valve that I didn’t know I had until my Blood Pressure went down to 90/40 back in December of 2021. That’s a story for another day. But, I listen to Dr. Berg every morning and just love his products.

Hello, Dr Berg. I've lost 150 lbs over the course of one year using your advice when I was in high school. I'm now 30 years old and I'm doing all the same things because I know this works. I've been drinking the kale blueberry smoothie for breakfast, pickles for snacks when I can't make it to the next meal, and a large salad with a piece of chicken breast for dinner. I drink mineral water with my meal and purified bottled water when exercising. For exercise I'm walking my dog 1-2 hours a day after stretching and doing some indoor workouts like crunches and pushups. I'm at the stage where my clothes is starting to fit loosely but no serious weight loss yet, but I feel great!

If your clothes are fitting loosely but you have not lost any weight. More than likely you are losing inches. Inches can be more important than losing pounds. I had to learn that myself. Keep going Louie, don't stop. Good Luck !!!

  • @louie9373

    @louie9373

@@Lbf5677 Yes, but I did it exactly how Dr. Berg explains. I was doing keto with intermittent fasting that eventually got down to OMAD plus intense daily exercise and it takes an extreme toll on your body. It's very important to consume a lot of greens and electrolytes. It starts very slow and snowballs exponentially once your body stops running on sugar and your liver health improves since the liver is connected to so many systems in the body.

keep doing what you’re doing. do not be concerned about your weight. do no weigh yourself. throw your scale in the trash. keep doing what you’re doing. your body will adjust as time passes, and you won’t notice until one day you’ll look in the mirror and you’ll be tone, and muscular…..then a great big smile will form on your face, and it will stay there for the rest of your life. every once in a while someone will like you know just how good you look. you will not notice the improvements because you’ll feel so good. the things that troubled you in the past will disappear and you’ll forget that those things even existed. oh yah, i used to get headaches, or i had sinus problems, things like that. the benefits are so worth it, that it’s worth dedicating yourself to this lifestyle. people that fail are the people that fail to stay the course. this is your life, not just a diet. this is how you live. it’s how you roll. this is you. keep on, and don’t look back. chronic illness is no way to live, so enjoy looking, and feeling great !

Doctors said it was inherited. 6'2", 250lbs, weighed 130 when he passed. 6 months he had it. Doctors didn't know what was wrong till 30 mins after he passed. So rare back then to be identified. Great video! I have hemochromatosis and my ferritin was almost 800. I found it during an annual physical with high iron. Just over the normal range, but enough for my doctor to check. I was referred to a hematologist and was able to get it down to 26 over two and half years with blood donations every two weeks. I have the arthritis you described. It has not improved with the reduction in iron. Thank you for your awesome content!

Well, as a vegetarian for more than fifty years, my iron has always been on the low side. In fact, in the past year it reached such a low point that I needed an infusion supported by B12 injections. However, I have inherited osteoarthritis from the women on both sides of my family. My hands, knees and toes have been getting inflamed and ugly over the past ten years or so. In short, for me the problem is not iron

Love the information Dr Berg gives out!

I wish the same would happen with me. Unfortunately I have these nodules on my DIP joints (last finger joint) on both index fingers, and I’ve had them for several years so the only option at this point is to have them surgically removed. They’re bone growths that the body creates when there is inflammation and damage to the joint caused by arthritis.

  • @OnlyKaerius

    @OnlyKaerius

@@kaymuldoon3575 Yeah that happens when it advances too far. To reverse it you have to stop the problem earlier. Not just too much iron, another big culprit is too much omega 6, and other inflamatory foods, too much oxalate would do it too, and in some people, too much grain.

I feel pain at times in the knuckles of my hands and knees. I don't know if it's arthritis. I have been diagnosed with arthritis in my toes. I think it was about 8 years ago, that I had some blood tests done. At that time, my iron levels were just about the upper limit. I was Paleo at that time, I'm now Keto Paleo. I still eat mostly red meat for meat. So I don't know if the arthritis is related to iron or not. However, Ragweed season is starting soon in Ontario, Canada here. I'll be taking a lot of Querntcin during ragweed season to combat seasonal allergies. It will be interesting to see if this influences the pain in my hands, knees, and toes. It will be an interesting experiment. At this point, I say the pain in my hands and knees come and go so it may be something else.
