Hi, great presentation. For those of us who will never own the Rolex 1655, there is always the Incipio version, made in Switzerland ETA 2893 , sold in Japan to 300 pieces only through watch Magazine Watch Begin in 1999 . I have to be satisfied with this in my collection for now......it is a stunner and has started many a conversation. a truly great piece looks and performance wise. Worth a look ?

@@soundssimple1 I really think more companies need to take a harder look at the design of the 1655 and bring them out (in a near picture perfect way) They are so unique and charming... and since the models were never popular to begin with, no one would really care if the pieces are reproduced again. It's an exciting idea. Thank you for the comment!

Another fantastic video ID Guy! I love when you talk about Explorers, until recently the unloved step children of Rolex. Both the 1016 and the 1655 are true icons but for different reasons as you point out. Any watch collector would be thrilled and honored to have them in their collection, I know I would. Thank you so much for this video. As an owner of a 214270 Mk 1 and a 216570 Polar, I truly appreciate it, as well as all the other terrific content you provide.

Explorers have fast become my favourites. I just love how understated and unassuming they are. I'd love to own a 1655 and not have anyone (except WIS') identify it. I'd love to hear the comment "nice seiko" and just grin. It's always a pleasure sharing my thoughts here (and I hope this format is bearable?) I'll talk more about what's been going on during the Livestream on Saturday ;) Thank you as always Blueshirt!

The Sub will always be the watch that inspired my interest in watches (when I was a kid) but somehow the Explorers have managed to push their way to the top. I think it might be because Sub's and GMT's are so commonly sought after (at least, that's how I rationalise it) The Explorers have just an added touch of something different to them. In the 1970's there was a glossy expensive science magazine called 'OMNI'. From memory, there was a full page Rolex advert. It had a photo of Steve Mqueen, sipping coffee and smoking. The Rolex Explorer is a watch where they hit the ball out of the park. This is a watch you can wear on a weekend of hunting or hiking and wear it on Monday to the office. It's a watch you can glance at for a fraction of a second and get the time. The original Explorer 2 carries some of the same simplicity from the explorer one but, is a watch you couldn't wear to the office unless the dress code is casual. However, the rules for what type of watch you wear with clothes has gone pretty much out the window. In my opinion, if Rolex would go back to the simplicity of their older watches and do away with the over branding, they would be a more appealing watch.

@@ID-Guy, simplicity is king! Take the Mondaine clock/watch design. It's a simple design and at a glance, you can get the time and can be worn in almost any situation and with any attire from casual to business formal. The Rolex Explorer and the Omega Railmaster both fit this niche of timepieces. I hope Rolex took notes on your "Einstein Milgauss". That's an excellent design concept. Even if they were to take the Rolex Explorer face and and the timing bezel with the antimagnetic case would also be an excellent design.

I can't stand the term " tool watch " Unless you purposely wear an unwound watch it tells time. I suppose you could use it to pound in a nail but there are hammers for that. All watches that work correctly should be considered tool watches. The task they preform is telling time. They can preform more tasks but to be a watch they can't preform less. A dress watch is a tool watch it tells time and in certain circumstances close a deal at a buisness conference. A sports watch also tells time but is made to withstand sudden shocks, changing weather conditions and is often water resistant. So please usless the watch is broken or has a dead battery all watches are infact tool watches. Cheers
