In this episode of "What Is On My Wrist" Cam talks the Rolex 1016 which has become a cult classic in the vintage Rolex sports watch lineup. The Rolex Explorer 1 ref. 1016 references bridge the gap between a dress watch and a sports watch. Without the crown guards and rotating bezels commonly found on sports models offered by Rolex, the Explorer I has a cleaner, sleeker profile while incorporating recognizable sport model features into the dial. The highly visible block indices, luminescent numerals at the 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock positions, and Submariner style triangle at the 12 o'clock position allow for readability under any conditions. The Submariner hands featured on the Ref. 1016 add to the unique feel and appearance.

Oof love it on a jubilee. I’ve been trying to find one for my 114270, but you know how Rolex is with modern lughole placement. Turns every case into a strap destroyer. If you have any suggestions for straps and bracelets, I’d really appreciate it.
My dad just passed away and my mom gave me his Rolex 1016 that he hardly wore. I was born in Hawaii in 1955 and that was where he bought the watch. It still has the cardboard box and case for it. Unfortunately he had put a leather band on so he no longer had one. I’m going to look into getting one for it. I totally enjoyed this video and learned so much!

Ok, I’ve watched a lot of your videos. Again I suggest flipping the image balance from 80% Cam / 20% the watch. It’s great stuff but we need more focus on the watches including stills and up close imagery of the details being discussed.

I love my 114270 but the matte dial L or R series 1016 is my grail!
