The Cosmere 101 | Nalthis

Ойын-сауық

The Cosmere is arguably one of the most ambitious concepts in the landscape of modern fantasy. Brandon Sanderson has managed to craft multiple stories set within multiple worlds all within this shared universe while still delivering top-notch storytelling quality. If you’re a fan of the Cosmere or just of Brandon Sanderson, you may have picked up one of his novels called Warbreaker. Warbreaker takes place on a world within the Cosmere called Nalthis, and it is this planet we will be discussing today.
I’ve made quite a number of videos in this Cosmere 101 series to explain multiple different aspects of the Cosmere for anyone who may be interested. But recently I realised that while I’ve spoken about all kinds of different things that Brandon Sanderson has included in the Cosmere, I never really zoomed out and gave a broader overview of certain things or areas. With that idea, I came to the decision to make a subset of videos within this Cosmere 101 series that will cover the different planets within the Cosmere and talk about them in broader terms.
Our first stop on this journey of Cosmere planets is Nalthis, and today we look at this interesting planet, it’s history, geography, Shard, and the form of Investiture it houses.

The Autonomy vs Endowment plot is gonna be so lit. Trelades was definitely an avatar of Autonomy. Endowment is like the democracy to Autonomy's feudalism. If you want to give your breath away, your choice. If you get enough breaths by vote of confidence, boom, you're an Awakener.

Theory for you Raven… with Vasher on Roshar we know that he has somehow managed to convert stormlight in to breath so he can sustain his life, do you think it’s capped there? I believe that due to the extremely high amount of investiture on Roshar that Vasher could be sitting somewhere at 1,000,000 breaths due to the ability to potentially convert stormlight in to breath, potentially by being able to change the resonance/ frequency of the light to mirror breath

@@RavensRants He is a scholar, and I believe he is of at least the tenth heightening due to being able to see Syl, I don’t believe normal life sense would have let him almost pinpoint her he would be aware she’s around but I don’t believe directly see/ sense the location of her

Okay I've given it some thought. In all likelihood it seems he's using stormlight to just sustain his Breaths so that he doesn't die (as he is a Returned and they need to consume one a week to stay alive). If he were gaining more amounts of Investiture than normal, he'd reach greater heightenings, possibly even the tenth by now considering how Invested Roshar is. However we don't see him bending light like Susebron does, so he's not at that point. Thus the likely answer is he's sustaining himself, but not actively growing his power. BUT! We know that Awakeners can store Breaths in objects. He could very well be at or beyond that point, but keeps putting the Breaths into his clothes or something. So while he isn't physically at that level right now, the possibility exists that he has that amount of power right on tap should he ever need it. Vasher strikes me as a person who would have a backup plan like that, but who wouldn't want to draw attention to himself (hence his name change as well). Maybe I should make a video on Vasher once I get to my Warbreaker re-read this year...

@@RavensRants Great point, let me cast a rebuttal, Vasher doesn’t currently appear like he did on Nalthis and we know returned have the ability to change their perception of them selves messing with their spiritual physical ideal, abilities are also part of that ideal, the bending of light is a by product on that many Breaths. Vasher who is a scholar and has this knowledge could quite easily hide this attribute, secondly the Rosharan’s don’t have perfect pitch so may not be noticing this. I have a great theory for Ba-Ado-Mishram and deadeyes if you want to discuss this?
