The Chris Hedges Report: Why did Democrats give this pro-Trump GOP primary candidate $425,000?

John Gibbs, a former Trump administration official, has received over $425,000 from the Democratic Party. Historian Paul Street joins 'The Chris Hedges Report' to discuss what is taking place on our bizarre political landscape as we head towards the midterm elections.

Paul Street has taught at numerous Chicago-area universities and is the author of 'This Happened Here: Neoliberals, Amerikaners, and the Trumping of America' (New York: Routledge, 2021). He also writes regularly for 'Counterpunch.'

Editor’s note: After this episode aired, a representative from the Socialist Rifle Association contacted TRNN with the following statement: “The Socialist Rifle Association is a 501(c)(4) non-profit education and advocacy organization dedicated to providing marginalized communities and the working class with the education, the skills, and the advocates necessary to be effectively armed for self and community defense. As an organization we seek, advocate for, and advance an inclusive, safe, and healthy firearms culture in America to combat the toxic, right-wing, and exclusionary firearm culture present in our society and represented by organizations such as the National Rifle Association. By no means is our organization a ‘militia.’ and we make this abundantly clear to our prospective members and the public. Our organization's bylaws specifically state that participation in illegal activities is grounds for the expulsion of a member.”

I don’t know who runs our govt and Biden, but obviously the corrupt do and he fits right in there. Maybe they’re the globalists and not only high US officials, but those from various countries, including China. The reason they hate Trump so much is because he put a wrench in their plans. They wanted to have it completed by the end of Hillary’s 8 years as president. That’s why Biden is doubling down (well not exactly him), he apparently has to have it completed by 2024.

What we can do is GET INFORMED so the sociopathic money ADDICTS in power cannot keep duping us!! It is CRUCIAL for us to know the EMBEZZLING SCAM the US has done in all countries it takes over. The overview/exposé below - just 6 paragraphs - shows us what is behind the curtain of lies they dupe us with. Information is power, and knowing what the scammers hide from us will mean we can do good OFFENSE, be effective in fighting the corrupt liars, not just keep reacting as the sociopaths keep doing their tyranny and taking everything from us. Here is what the US criminals have done all over the world, since WW2: 1. Take over a country by coup, assassination, lies about government being corrupt or by threat or invasion so they can... 2. Implement their EMBEZZLING scam of "privatization", taking over government services & systems and national assets so the corrupt liars can handle fiat government money & BILL THE GOVERNMENT ANY AMOUNT for running such things; they provide themselves with massive exec salaries and insanely high profits, becoming oligarchs and billionaires. 3. Lie to the public ENDLESSLY to keep us duped. 4. Praise leaders who submit to US corruption & demonize leaders who RESIST or reverse it - like Putin, who reversed the US plundering done under US puppet Yeltsin, like Chavez and Maduro in Venezuela, like Gaddafi wanting things nationalized and government money going to THE PEOPLE, like Morales in Bolivia, like Assad who said NO to a US pipeline through Syria, and so on. The demonization of both Russia and China is part of the multipronged US sabotage of the BRICS coalition since 2006. The greedy sociopathic money ADDICTS hate that those two countries are doing fair deals with other countries and helping them escape US control, corruption, privatization and loansharking. Also, vax co's & digital ID systems to control & subjugate us are "privatized" (as are quarantine camps). The scheme was to get TRILLIONS from many govts FOREVER while arranging to squash us so we could never rise up to stop their corruption, tyranny and inhumanity. They tried many pandemics previously to enrich themselves with government money, this was the most coordinated one - and used the most coercion. More specifics re "privatization" embezzling: Yes, in general a government can issue ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY for anything that is physically possible; the corrupt know this and have used that knowledge to scam the public and embezzle government money. They take over government services, conning the public about "saving money" and being "more efficient", but those are lies. The costs actually become higher because the corrupt liars overbill the govt for everything, billing ANY AMOUNT, providing massive exec salaries and insanely high profits. And they give us REDUCED services, because their sociopathic greed and money addiction means they take more for themselves and do not supply what they are supposed to supply for us. Basically, the US has built a global corruption cartel, taking over countries (and their media) to EMBEZZLE from their governments. The UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand were coopted and corrupted in the 70s; the massive embezzling that ensued by taking over the many dozens of government services, support systems, assets and resources they had is what gave rise to the billionaire class in the 80s! We need a successful INTERVENTION on the lunatic money addicts in power who lie, destroy and KILL for more "money fixes". They are totally UNFIT TO GOVERN and should face charges of dereliction of duty, violating the Constitution, embezzling federal money, crimes against humanity, war crimes and more.

@@jasonlacroix6083 Most of that falls back to the strange religious worshiping of authority figures that ended up getting baked into most of our society over the past hundred years. That coupled with the slow creep of policies and actions gave cover for that tyranny to flourish, afterall would you want to organize a posse and threaten harm to a council because they said you can't sleep on a park bench? It's an insidious crawl that guns aren't a great tool to stop. We needed civic engagement to stop it, but that was already waning before a couple world wars took out a large portion of the civic minded population. The unquantifiable benefit our armed society did have was that of defense against invasion (which our geological isolation played a greater role) and not allowing that creep towards tyranny become a full sprint. If you took those people from a hundred+ years ago and tried to enact all the restrictions, laws, and policies we now have you'd see that mobilization to the streets that the gun nuts are always talking about. At this stage I'm just as clueless as you are on how we can realistically right the ship, but disarming while leaving those militarized cops in place doesn't seem like a good idea.

To expand on the ADD/Attention span bit at the end which John very briefly touched on: Broadly speaking It's not about attention span but rather patience. If people had time to feel relaxed they would read more, because they would know in their body that it feels good or would lead to feeling good with the added benefit of learning something which they can share with their other literate friends. No, sitcoms are tragedies, an not the Sophocles kind. Popular culture is a reflection of the seedy, little cut-rate carny we call America. Listen to music from the last century, the thirties for example when there were no computers. Tragically people have not been given an education in thinking critically and thus look to answer questions and not question answers. We are familiar with the Master-Slave dialectic: The two roles ineluctably get switched. "Whoever has colonized should not be surprised to find himself colonized in turn. Whoever destroys the identity of another does not strengthen his own but makes it more vulnerable, more threatened still, in a world which has lost a little more of its diversity.” “The money power preys on the nation in times of peace, and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. It denounces, as public enemies, all who question its methods or throw light upon its crimes.” ---- Abraham Lincoln

At least we can look at all of the progress and democratic improvements we have realized with the electoral success of the Democrats right? Sarcastic. It's hard to motivate myself to get galvanized about resisting electoral momentum of the Magas and the Repubs when the opening of the talk starts with a disclaimer that we are fully captured by a oligarchy authoritarianism. I dare say that progress has absolutely nothing to do with championing this completely disingenuous electoral charade we have in this fully captured and customizable system. Again, we are shown off the top why, if we actually believe that championing the Dems is somehow the answer, that bankrolling the capture of elections for far right candidates is our best strategy. Paul quickly gave an exposition about the capture and authoritarianism and its worsening conditions before he got into a discussion about this satanic perversion of an electoral process we have. IMO, any progress that will become possible will come from more extrapolation and exploration and analysis and investigation into the process of capture, wealth transfer, dispossession, exploitation, through the capture and control of all of the relevant peripheral elements. What do I mean by peripheral elements? I essentially mean you and me and our neighbor and my cousins neighbor. If you can control "history", education, entertainment, medicine, the "science" of money and economics, the "science" of democracy, the "science" of information and entertainment and taxation and war and security etc. etc. etc. You control anything without having to put your hands on it. In short, by essentially dictating and controlling all of the things that influence and inform and inspire the people. You make possible the capturing of govt', financial system, regulation, social welfare, public health, democracy, the employment and weaponization of "science", education as well as higher academics, popular movements. That reminds me. Remember how easy it is to make all media become Islama-phobic? Russia-phobic? China-phobic? Remember how easy it is to get all media to be anti-communist? What if the media was actually put to use for the sake of public health? Do you think we would have an opioid epidemic like we do? I could go on and on and on. So, rallying for elections is like the fire engine arriving to see a building that has burned to the ground.

Nicely articulated and written.but my good man, it is what is being pointed out, a thousand times over. Except all is much more under control by corporations . As it all points to, corporation power/ control. I believe The Canadian Philosopher/ writer Marshall McLuhan long before many including Noam Chomsky were understanding the power of media. McLuhan spoke on the power of the internet, and they influence) power it would have over society long before most of us new what it even ment. Let's be honest that the majority of intellectuals, scholars are subsidies by major corporations through their foundations. What has been left out of this conversation, and most. It is the influence of all art, and artists, and their voices, be it literally or through their work. Today this voice has been muzzled by so many in so many ways, and made to seem insignificant, and mundane. So I will add, and leave you with some artistic value that says, and displays visual, voice through art form on the issue.. We can clear things up when we see what the lying sociopathic money ADDICTS have been doing. If you want to end the wars, help improve things in this country (and others, by removing US aggression and corruption), we need to know what the corrupt establishment HIDES. It is CRUCIAL for us to know the EMBEZZLING SCAM the US has done here in all countries it takes over. Read the overview/exposé below - just 6 paragraphs - to see what is behind the curtain of lies they dupe us with.

Agreed. Questions of preference require no evidence. If I ask if you want vanilla or chocolate ice cream you do not have to give evidence for your conclusions. Questions of fact: is two plus two four or five, are monological and have one answer. Is it a fact this podcast exists or not? Questions of fact require exchanges of points of view and an examination if there is a factual dispute. but the real questions we face in life, like the horror we face now are not questions of preference or questions of fact; they are questions of reasoned judgment. Reasoned judgment is multi-logical (many points of view) requires attitudes and cognitive disciplines like learning to enter into other points of view to assess their logic, questioning ones' own pov and that of others and a host of cognitive skills. but more than anything questions of reasoned judgment require evidence for their claims. And this is where we find the problem. Most if not many people not only have no evidence for many of their claims and beliefs they have not been taught the necessity of evidentiary thinking and thus treat questions of reasoned judgment as questions of preference. And there are consequences. Fascism is one.

Just look at all the lies coming out of Ukraine, easily verifiable lies told with no shame at all... Like the Russians shelling Nuclear Plants they themselves occupy...

@@michaelroberts7770 they were not completely biased when I was in school . As far as Right-wing propaganda sure it's not as heavy as left wing propaganda but it exists . For example children are still taught in school we're a free market . This is why youth today buy into the idea that the free market has failed . We're not even a top 20 free market nation . Last time I checked we were number 24 . It's possible because of some of the pro small business measures Trump signed in we're now 19 or 18 but that will reverse in next year or 2 . People equate Nazis as fascist which isn't completely correct . Fascism is more like Mussolini where as Hitler was a racist hugenisist ( like the founder of planned parenthood ironically 🤔 people don't like connecting those dots ) . Fascism is actually on the economic level a hybrid socialist government controlled market that allows free market consumerism controll the profit . Here in America we actually have a quazi Fascist market that borders a free market system with socialist and communist tools in place to manipulate the market via regulations weaponized to profit corporate America while stifling free market competition. I'm not anti regulations per se but our regulatory system is a weaponized system much like our Johnson welfare and police system ( Johnson is actually the God Father of our modern constitution crushing police and prison system ... not Nixon like people are taught or think )

I'm a lifelong Democrat who went to school when education was the objective . Therefore I know as a liberal I am not a progressive . I actually have more in common with conservatives as a Liberal but we differ on issues as well . Ironically progressives and conservatives put government power above constitutional powers afforded the people . For example most conservatives will tell you STOP AND FRISK is constitutional. It's not . It's actually part of why the 4th amendment exists because part of how the British seized guns from the colonist was STOP AND FRISK . At same time progressives use welfare , regulation and taxes to keep the poor and minority groups locked in inner cities . This is why stories of ESCAPING WELFARE are such a big deal . Another example is gay marriage. We have a separation of church and state as well as religious freedoms that government can't violate . But the states decided they wanted marriage licensed . Because of this the states can not deny CIVIL MARRIAGES conducted by the state because ALL MEN HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS AND ALSO USE OF GOVERNMENT. So no matter an individuals personal view they have to as an agent of the government treat all citizens equally ... BUT churches can not be forced to perform gay marriages because they have absolute control , via the constitution, over their doctrine . Furthermore businesses owners who are not receiving subsidies ( paid by the tax payers ) or contracted by the state can legally practice and evoke religious freedoms and protections . For example Jack's neighborhood bakery DOES NOT HAVE TO MAKE A CAKE FOR A GAY MARRIAGE BUT BECAUSE WALMART IS SUBSIDISED BY THE CITIZENS THEY DO HAVE TO MAKE THE CAKE . That is how our constitution works . It's a work of genius in its simplicity that is easily applied today by those that first and foremost except everyone is equal and everyone has individual rights that apply based on simple rules of how they are or are not in any capacity engaged in activities sponsored by the state that is WE THE PEOPLE . 🤔

Agreed. Was this partly due to the "plain language" theory? I write things for work and am always asked to dumb it down and use "plain language" because people didn't understand a few words. One actually called asserting "there is no such word." I replied "before you embarrass yourself telling me that isn't a word you might want to look it up before making the call. The writing stands. I can tell you a story Technicals in Somalia. Jowhar 1998, Sheik Ali Dhere showed up uninvited with three technicals that day. To a very bizarre conference I assisted in organizing for Green Beret Wayne Long. As MSF logistics I was asked by Major Long to uninvite the Sheik so I did. That night three looters lost their right hands and left feet and those trophies were hung in front of the Islamic Court for all of the invited guests to see as we drove to the conference hall.

What has been left out of this conversation, and most. It is the influence of all art, artists, and their voices, be it literally or through their work. Today this voice has been muzzled by so many in so many ways, and made to seem insignificant, and mundane. So I will add, and leave you with some artistic value that says, and displays visual, voice through art form. On KZread "Democracy" by Leonard Cohen Jackson Browne - "Lives In the Balance " Tom Paxton - When Princess Meet (1973) The Future , Leonard Cohen Tapestry - Don McLean ( with lyrics) This is a very powerful video with lyrics, but sorry to say don McLean has become an affiliate with NRA. How unusual of a transformation.

Out of curiosity and reason ; please if you can , make a video about the great projects completed in Afghanistan. During US occupation and where the Trillions of US dollars went ? Then show the great projects that the US accomplished in her homeland such as unaffordable housing for the rich or luxury multistory apartments , or walls of commuter traffic to and from rural cities to apartheid gentrified former orchard villages to now urban business and levitt communities .Such as Southern California or Bay area California . All these brilliant “Capitalist” free market projects and achievements have to be fairly showcased as well!!! 👏🏻
