    Sad, isn’t it, that most don’t realize true genius until it’s gone... so many made fun of the Carpenters when they were in their prime. Only too late do we realize what true geniuses they were. Karen simply had one of the finest voices EVER. She was also a gifted drummer. Richard had an immense talent in picking out the perfect songs for them; he was also a fine musician in his own right, plus a great arranger/producer. What a duo!

    I just finished reading Little Girl Blue. All Carpenters fans need to read this book. Karen loved needlepoint and made one for Richard that said, "Without RC, there would be no KC". Then in 1993, Richard was preparing to release her on solo album. He called "Itchey" Ramone to get the original artwork and any commemoration that when with the album. After a week, she called Richard back saying she found Karen's commemoration. It read, "To my brother Richard, with love". Richard burst into tears on the phone.

    This is what everybody raves about with that incredible voice, a very rare lower-register (Mezzo-Soprano, then Soprano as higher for women singers), and her 3-octave range! I've never heard any woman singer able to hit those powerful lower-notes, and still reach the upper level as she did, and never have since her passing or ever will.

    For women singers, could be, but there is Mariah Carey (19 #1's), [or Diana Ross, Supremes] just short of The Beatles with 20 #1s on the Billboard Hot 100 record. But for all, you have Elvis, John and Paul, and George to also compete with that "most recognizable voice in the world." But no doubt Karen is right up there with the others! What an incredible, magnificent talent, in both singing and drum playing! What a loss on Feb. 4, 1983; now 40 years ago! Hard to believe it has been that long.

    This is one of several Beatles' songs (along with "Help" and "Nowhere Man") that the Carpenters did not merely "cover," but made their own. By giving "Ticket to Ride" their own flair, they made it as much as standard for themselves as it had been for the "Fab Four."

  • @Mrvictorfernandes
    @Mrvictorfernandes4 ай бұрын

    In recent years, when Richard was asked about the "Ticket To Ride" promo film, he cited it as one of the highlights in their career. Had Karen lived she would've echoed that same sentiment, but, typical of her personality, she would have poked fun of the closeup shots of her mouth!... Love you forever, little drummer girl. No less a musical giant than Paul McCartney said that Karen was the greatest female vocalist--EVER! He is quoted saying about her, "the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive." Highest praise possible, coming from one of the greatest male singers ever. This song, fittingly a Beatles' classic, released in Oct. 1969, prior to "Close to You," the next year, illustrates perfectly her emotional impact on those who appreciate good pop-rock music. They sold well over 100 million records. Loved you and your most expressive contralto voice ever since I heard "Close to You" (1970), Karen. Nobody has come close to your voice since you shockingly went away the day your heart failed. Karen Carpenter, 32 (Mar. 2, 1950-Feb. 4, 1983). "Think I'm gonna be sad..."

    As an aspiring musician myself, age 14, I'd been steeped in the Beatles and the entire 60s, early 70s music scene. Then came the Carpenters. I recall hearing her voice for the first time. Regardless of my propensity for rock, I could not help being drawn deeply into her voice. Many years later I'd realize that Richard was the genius that showcased Karen's voice perfectly...choosing the right keys, the right songs, perfect arrangements. It's so sad that she, off all people, could not find happiness.

    Having heard The Beatles and The Carpenters versions of Ticket to Ride, and I love both versions, but if I had to choose which one is the best, I would go for the Carpenters. Karen had a voice that you could understand every single word she sang. A voice made in heaven. Even John Lennon once said that Karen had a fabulous voice. RIP Karen and John.

    This is a lovely interpretation by The Carpenters. They did a great job making it their own. The Beatles version..well..it sounds like The Beatles!😅 They wrote it, of course, and their stylings are quite different enough from The Carpenters that each interpretation stands on its own. It's just a matter of whether you'd prefer to hear a "heavy metal-lish" version (Ringo's drums on this, according to John), or an easy listening version (TC). Both have merit, depending on your mood.🙂❤️

    This song was released in the Spring of 1970 when I was a CAP cadet doing search and rescue. I first heard it on the radio as we were returning home from a search in the Sierras in May 1970 in which 3 search volunteers were killed. The song hit me that three men had died, and after all these years I always think of them whenever I hear this song. Ironically, the search was conducted under winter weather conditions just like what is depicted in this video.

    I grew up on The Carpenters' music. To this day i find myself humming and singing their songs more than any other. Beautiful music, Karen's voice is still one of the greatest female voices ever, and their harmonies still stand out as some of the finest in music. I watched their special on PBS last night.....admittedly it brought tears to my eyes, with tears streaming down my face when it ended. I remember where I was and what I was doing when I learned Karen passed - I sobbed. Such a sad ending to one of music's most unforgettable voices. But I am so very grateful for the hundreds of hours of enjoyment I got from listening to their music and for the songs that are still very much a part of my life each and every day. Thank you Carpenters for sharing your incredible gift from God with us.

Karen was loved by many many people and several generations...those that grew up listening have done her voice justice by passing it on to their children. And why is this sad to me? Because everything everybody is saying about her is what I want to say also...and I'm sad she can't read what she meant to all of us and how melancholy we are about her passing 36 years ago. RIP our dear and loved, Karen Carpenter.

When I was a high school student, my teacher recommended me to hear it. Then I noticed her pronunciation is very clear, so it's very easy for non-native speakers to understand. I remember when I first heard this song when it came out in '69. I don't think it got the attention and respect it needed, as we were all hearing the future, a sound we had never heard before and hence could never have considered. So, it took some time for our ears to accept what we were hearing. And, that is witnessed by the fact that the song kept returning to the charts over and over again like few other songs have ever done.
