I loved the fact that Karen could drum as well as sing, a mult-talented woman who's sorely missed.
The fact that she was able to sing like this at the age of 19 is just unreal.
THAT VOICE! AND ONLY 19 YEARS OLD HERE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME! OTHERWORLDLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!

This beautiful lady was off the charts talented! Karen has no equal IMO!
John Lennon saw Karen walking out of a restaurant and said to her "I want to tell you love, I think you've got a fabulous voice”.
I love how they completely remade this song as their own. It really is quite impressive and beautiful.

Dave, I agree, and I think it's among her finest work in her singing career. She was absolutely superb, and many consider her the best female pop singer of all time. That (lowest pitch/range) contralto voice is the reason why. From lowest to highest for women: contralto, mezzo-soprano, soprano. The higher two ranges are far more common, which is another reason Karen's voice was such a standout and so rare.
This beautiful and talented lady could sing the words from a recipe book and it would still sound so heavenly. Rest in peace Karen.

Just heavenly beautiful voice!
She was such a treasure in English music history. Sad ending but she left so beautiful sounds.
I jogged for many years listening to the Carpenters. This was one of my favorites. Her voice is unforgettable. It is a Sinatra like baritone and extremely full of tone. The night I heard of her death I cried for hours. It felt as though someone had yanked out my heart. I can only think of all the great songs she would have given us had she overcome her health issue. Rest in peace Karen. Loved you, your beauty and that voice.

Dave Hill I cried too. And I was shocked 😳.
Talent is able to sing beautifully while playing the drums. Karen, you are very much missed.
Why why why did she have to kill herself to be thin? Who cared? We loved her no matter what. Her voice was eclectic. She left us all in tears and no one can duplicate that 'voice'...still miss you after all these years. I hope you found peace Karen.

Ya, looks like she was already thin. But her legacy was that it led to helping other women with eating disorders to survive, including myself. the world truly misses her.
Drives me crazy, you will never come up this close to this super talent never again, wooooow.
such a beautiful singing voice..... Rest in Peace Karen

Remember seeing her on tv so painfully thin and thinking “can anyone see this “”...such a beautiful person and an incredible voice ..,
She was so special and beautiful. I still love Karen Carpenter.
She is and was so great. I still get the chills when I hear sing. She was one of a kind. Just like Anne Wilson of Heart! Love them both.
At 17, Karen was offered a recording contract by Joe Osborne. When she was 19, the Carpenters were offered a contract by Herb Alpert because of Karen's voice. For all intents and purposes, Karen's voice is the reason there is even a Carpenters sound.
It's just has to be said the carpenters complimented each other perfectly the harmonies where perfect and sublime a musical pleasure for the ears.
The best I've ever heard then and now she had it all
What a shame she's not with us any more. What a voice.
A voice incredible...
Sie war und ist ein Engel:)❤💐💕🎶🎵🎵🎵💕💐🌞❤ Herzlichen Dank 💐 ❤:)
So young, beautiful and gifted...
I ADORE THIS VOICE, ETERNAL VOICE!!
Literally obsessed with this song! My band and I play this every chance we get! Still can’t figure out the exact drum part she plays, but I’ve got it pretty darn close!
REST IN PEACE Karen Anne Carpenter!!
Thanks for clarifying that- having watched the promo video for the song with the '73 version overdubbed, I'm very impressed with how perfectly they were synced together!
I ve never seen this tape!!!!!! She is still great never misses a note!! Or out of key!!!! Casper.
Beautiful
Linda! Saudades e a voz 😍😍
just love it. makes me feel free
Perfection in every aspect.
💜💜💜. Such a natural and beautiful Karen💜💜💜
wow! so cool to see for the first time! thanks so much
ela tinha uma voz incrível... incomparável... linda
Actually no, I found it from another video on here from an appearence the duo had on a show called, Your All American College Show (1969), which included Ed Sullivan and the host briefly talking to Karen and Richard
Voz maravilhosa!
I love the mullet.
Love the Carpenters.
She sure was beautiful as her voice
Que hermoso como canta mi Karen esta canción de los Beatles me eleva llenando mi alma con una persepcion espiritual que me une a ella en ese sentimiento...
Cool :-) Thanks for the reply!
Oooh, yes please! I'm quite intrigued now! I'm still surprised, all this time listening to the '73 version and thinking it was the original! I should have twigged that it didn't sound at all like their other songs from 'Offering' :-P
A tear at the right moment everyone would die.
sublime
I was shocked too how well the match up, considering that Karen's phrasing and breath control is different in each.
Qué preciosa que estaba Karen. Cuántos más goces musicales nos hubieras dado de haber seguido aun con nosotros.
innocent, sweet, talented. love you Karen.
Nothing like the countdown to lift-off of the next Apollo mission to enhance Karen's face. Then we get a bonus feature of almost 4 minutes of blank screen! Other than tat, it is a rare find & nice to see.
THE CARPENTERS sont universels ....karen C. est d'un grand talent et sa voix est sans égal encore aujourd'hui...
50 years ago tommorrow!!
My, the people on the Tube are so sensitive! Slight critique & F-bombs a-flyin'! I don't know what's involved in uploading a video, so your'e explaining, thank-you. My point on the blank screen is that one doesn't really know if there will be something at the end, much like a "hidden" (non-listed) track used to be on an album, so one waits to see/hear. Again, than-you for the rare vid upload, and now my questions have been answered.
Fantástica Karen lástima q se nos fue a temprana edad.
Just emailed it to you, hon! Hope that you enjoy! :-)
LOVE THE FACT THAT FOR ONLY FOR THE CAMERA'S SHE PLAYS LIKE SHE IS REALLY PLAYING THE DRUMS.. THIS VIDEO WAS NOT FOR BROADAST
Voice angelical e
I love this vintage video. Love seeing the young 19-year-old Karen. Only one problem with the video is that the music is not from the actual performance. It is the re-recorded version of "Ticket To Ride" done in 1973 for inclusion on "The Singles 1969-1973." The big giveaway is Tony Peluso's guitar on the song. he wasn't even a member of the band until 1972. Otherwise excellent video - but I would love to hear it with the original music as performed on the show. That would be a real treat.

Here's the original video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gX-VwZahm7HQgKg.html But it's still mimed, just to the 1969 recording rather than the 1973 one.
I like her later Ludwig drumset that was silver glitter, had many across the top of the base
Dulce y sensual voz.
She had a beautiful voice; but she was pitchy sometimes.I don't have a sense of pitch that often makes her bother me, so I enjoyed listening to her. What a voice: Through out a wide range---it sounded great!! .
@henryjackson2357

She had perfect pitch, that's one of her trademarks. Early on in the late 60s it could be flat or a bit off because she was developing it, but by 1970 she sounded perfect until the day she died
she looked so pretty.
ADORO ESCUTAR SUA VOZ
Ella vive!!! En un hermoso arcoiris....
@steveatl40 Yeah, the sound quality of this actual recording where they lipsycned it, was pretty low on volume. I thought that an updated version would sound more crisp, not that there was anything wrong with the '69 track. Do you think I shouldn't have changed it?
The "improved sound quality" is the studio version inserted. Wonderful, but they are incredible live.

Yes, I would love to hear the actual audio track from this performance.
No, the 1969 original version is from the first album, OFFERING. that version is more raw, with Karen's huskier vocals. The recording from this video is a re-done version that's much more cleaned up and deeper/sharper sounding, with Karen's more mature, devloped vocals. This was done in 1973 for their new album, "The Singles: 1969-1973".
GREAT VIDEO. Is there a way of turning the counter off. There were buttons on older machines to turn counter off.
AMERICA'S GOT TALENT!!!
Elle est très belle ...
MULHER MARAVILHOSA, VOZ FORTE, TÍMBRE SUPER AVELUDADO, VOZ TÃO CLARA E LÍMPIDA QUANTO AS NUVENS, ANJO ENCANTADOR E ETERNO EM TODAS AS FORMAS, E EM TODOS OS ASPECTOS!!!
this is the voice over version.....the 1969 her voice is different check out the single from ticket to ride lp..or other clips on you tube
Huh?! What's this about there being 2 versions of the track? I have this recording and always assumed it was from '69. Thanks for the amazing video, btw :-)
Sister at the vocals/drums, brother at piano
Marie osmond similarly could beautifully sing and only 13 shede been like Tanya tucker
Someone dubbed the recording studio audio over the video.
Ditto!
Why mess with the audio that originally accompanied the video? Lame.
the audio gets out of sync somewhere in the middle....
Where on earth did you unearth this gem, FilmFreakable? Is it from a Carpenters dvd perchance?
this must be dubbed from a later version right? both versions are good.
The 1969 version and the 1973 version are actually quite markedly different. I have rather a soft spot (more like a swooning passion) for the Carp's earliest stuff, so I think the 1969 version is something special, as I like Karen's 'huskier', less polished vocals. I can email you the '69 version if you want it ;-)
wow, this is rare...in certain poses she almost looks like Donna Fargo
Where can we see it with the original audio?
beautiful voice...better than the Beatles.

Beatles have annoying scratch voice.
A) I got the video and the timer was on it and I can't take it down. B) The whole clip is already there so why the hell do you care if the screen is blank -- its over! Watch something else! I couldn't edit the video coreectly without those extra minutes. C) Fuck you.
The video may be 1969, but the vocals are from the 1973 version. This is the 1969 version: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZoBp3MGQmLnggJc.html

This audio at that is the 1973 recording from "The Singles 1969-1973." You can hear Tony Peluso's guitar who was not a member of the band until 1972.
The focus was on Karen from the inception. This explains the constant turbulence in the relationship. No winner, sadly.
I'm sure all of you Lady KaKa's and other so called singers wish you could sing like this???
What was that that clock for??
Can we see it without the frame counter. She was very pretty, too bad she didn't see herself that way.

Brooklyn Avenue I'm sorry I do not share your opinion. On the contrary, it was remarkable. Most drummers in Pop and genres such as Rock, Country, Metal, Punk, Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, MOR, etc. do not hold their sticks correctly. She was an exception.

Steve Dakota You have to be among the stupidest people alive. You are worthy of scientific study. She's a drummer. She knows how to hold drumsticks. Please stop typing. You are too stupid.
He was being a smartass with his tone. And your following. How can someone be a victim through a YT comment?
whats with that annoying counter in the video? She is holding her drum sticks correctly that I rarely see any drummer does.
Dear Karen, your mother, your brother and Tom Burris killed you. They killed an angel. I hope they burn in the hell for ever !!! - /// Please, rest in peace my sweet Karen, . . . my love !
Better than the Beatles' version or not, the album this is on should have a 50th anniversary reissue in 2019.
