Liz, Karen was and is the greatest female vocalist of all time in my opinion,; when she died my heart broke into 1000 pieces. If there are angels and they sing, they sound like Karen Carpenter. RIP Karen

Love your reaction, which is how many of us Carpenter fans react. When Karen sings, she touches deep into our souls. 40 years after I first heard Karen sing, I still react the same way, as Karen causes me to get emotional. RIP, Karen. You left us too soon. If this song makes you emotional, wait to you hear her sing, SOMETIMES. kkkk And she only sings for 1 minute and 13 seconds. Thanks for posting this song.

IMHO, Simply the best voice ever. Recommendations from the Carpenters: "Ordinary Fool", "I Just Fall in Love Again" and "I Can Dream Can't I" (my personal favorite). None of these were ever released as singles. They all highlight Karen's range and ability to draw you into the lyrics with that mesmerizing voice. Also, Richard always does a phenomenal job of arranging. Thanks!

Liz, thank you for your heartfelt beautiful reaction to the sublime, emotionally shattering voice of Karen Carpenter. And I agree with you. The music industry today churns out superficial, unoriginal, throwaway junk. No talent necessary. Thank goodness we have videos and CD's that will forever preserve extraordinary artistry as exemplified by the Carpenters.

Thank you very much, Liz. I have been asking for this one! There was never a voice like Karen's - she did not only have a beautiful singing voice, but when she would perform - there was something about her ---- it was as if she was right there --- and she was definitely different. Many, many of us miss you, Karen.

Merry Christmas Liz. Im on my late 60s, so remember KC very well on the radio and TV specials. She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Richard, her brother, was a terrific arranger but KC's voice was discovered at age 19 by Herb Alpert in 1969 which began their road to fame. Richard convinced her that her best singing voice was contralto, 'the money is in the basement'. I believe KC's, voice, especially contralto, was the best female voice ever. No auto-tune, stripping, gimmicks, or screaming. Her nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice compelled you to listen. She had no professional voice training. Paul McCartney said she sang Ticket To Ride better than the Beatles, and "she had the most angelic voice I have ever heard". John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant "you have a fabulous voice luv". Every female harmony in nearly all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard. They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she received 4 grammys. She was also recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. She never knew true love, nor how good she really was. Check the songs in their Christmas Album such as Merry Christmas Darling, best Ave Maria, ever; and other songs such as 'Superstar' 'Solitaire', 'Only Yesterday', 'A Place To Hideaway', 'Rainy Days and Mondays', 'I Can Dream Cant I', 'Someday', 'Hurting Each Other', 'I Need To Be In Love', 'Goodbye To Love', etc.. She had a few friends including Petula Clark and Dionne Warwick. She had serious onset of anorexia in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. Married a guy in 1982 that was broke, not who she thought, and mistreated her. Never knew true love. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia. [Some info contained herein came from documentaries such as, "Only Yesterday]"

Richard must have heard it and when they came back as the Carpenters (he was in treatment for qualude addictions) they recorded this tune!

To me it is about a couple who have been together for a long time and the romance and passion have wained...so make belive it is our first time. Put the sadness behind and look at each other with new eyes. Rekindle what once was and look at each other with new eyes. Whatever sadness there was. Let,'s put it behind. At least for now. 🙏 You surely were an angel sent from the heavens, so we know what it sounds like!!!

First things first. Liz you need a hug from across the ether. I’m not sure that on the day you recorded this, this was the song you needed. What ever was happening that day, I hope it’s all better now. When I was young Karen could make me feel better when things were not good. After she died and how she died made things too emotional for me for a long time. I’m bathing in her voice and their greatness now, it took this long. To brighten things up and hopefully you’re having a better day I’m going to recommend this Bacharach/David Medley. It’s live, it’s 20 year old Karen doing what she does and the boys making magic with her. It is simply wonderful and uplifting. I hope this makes your day, it’s my favorite version of this and I listen to it often to lift my spirits. Enjoy! ❤ kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6an1658dpyspKw.html
