The Burial of Jesus (Mark

After the death of Jesus, a man named Joseph of Arimathea came to bury the body of Christ. In this sermon, R.C. Sproul continues his exposition of the gospel of Mark to acknowledge how the dignity of Jesus’ burial was a fulfillment of prophecy.

Beloved, please don't be fearful or overly concerned about being buried in fire and not in a box or being buried in water. Many good Christian soldiers died at sea and we're buried in the watery grave. Many saints who were martyred by fire are buried safely in God's keeping and other saints were torn to pieces by wild animals and their remains desecrated on the ground after digestion. Yes, the body itself is wonderfully made as David said, but, " Fear Not", beloved, the Lord has the soul of each one of us in his hand and the body that we shall receive is far more glorious than the body of flesh and bones.

This was a great sermon on the burial of the Lord Jesus. I may also add that aside from Joseph Arimathea, Nicodemus, according to John 19:39, a believer in Jesus and a Pharisee also brought spices in preparation of the body of the Lord. R.C Sproul did not mention this event nor Nicodemus in his sermon.

The purpose of this message is about the burial of Jesus according to the Gospel of Mark, and to note the presence of these women for the same reason.📜

It is in you as a person that the nature of God is revealed, for a scriptural episode is not a record of an historical event, but a parabolic revelation of truth. To see Jesus or David as an historical character is to see truth tempered to the weakness of your soul. You must see what the characters represent, rather than the characters themselves. This is true for every story in scripture, for every episode will unfold within you.

The title of the 54th Psalm is translated as “David is hiding with us” in the King James Version, and “David is in hiding among us” in the Revised Standard Version; but the title should read: “David is in hiding within us,” for that is where he is, as well as every character in scripture. When I say, with Blake: “All that you behold, though it appears without it is within, in your Imagination of which this world of mortality is but a shadow,” I mean that literally, for the drama of life unfolds from within.

The characters Jesus, David, Abraham, and Moses are but personifications of eternal states, which you individually will encounter as you move towards the ultimate awakening of being God himself. In his poem, “Saul” Robert Browning tells the story recorded in the 16th chapter of the Book of First Samuel, of how David cured Saul of the evil spirits which the Lord had sent upon him.

Another type of rock put in front of hewn out tombs was a cork shaped stone that with even greater effort could be rolled away. I wonder, regardless of the sealing stone's shape, how the women with spices expected to enter to anoint the body of Jesus? Actually, Jesus did not need the stone to be rolled away for Him to get out as he walked through the wall of the room where the disciples were hiding for fear of the Jews. But there needed to be witness by the women and by Peter and John that indeed Jesus' body was gone. The gentiles needed also to have an empty tomb so they could say the disciples came and took his body. I can only imagine what the gentile King would have done if the body was gone without the stone being removed. Perhaps they would have made Jesus one of their deities and worshiped Him falsely. Maybe they would have killed a lot of people including Nicodemus accusing them of a scam burial. Perhaps you can think of some other things.

excellent reasoning, for the death body, yes is true no rule, but be respectful whit the body unless God said otherwise, and there's no rule for the death people, God will resuscitate, every one who is in the book of life and the ones, that are not for eternal life 😬 one text that is very helpful, is in Revelation, Revelations 20:13 New International Version The SEA gave up the DEAD that were in it, and DEATH and HADES gave up the DEAD THAT WERE IN THEM, and each person was JUDGED ACCORDING to what they had done. And Abraham loved Sarah so much that hi didn't want to put her in the ground,so that's way,Abraham was buried with her and the tradition of him continued, but yes RC is right no rule wen you dying, and in old times it is what it is. Raquel was buried in Belén,she died there and it was to far from the cave of Mespelea to buried there. But one thing that God always said to his loyal and obedient humans was "AND YOU WILL REST IN PEACE" and for the les fortune ones like Jesabell welll wi know that her thumb will be no were to find 😬

The worms never dies means, thinking eternally of missing opportunities to accept Jesus as Savior in the lifetime in the flesh on earth. Ohh I wish I had… things like that coming up repeatedly constantly to the lost souls in eternally condemnation. If someone told you cremation is alright send him home with Amos 2 somebody told me. God hate if the bodies of diseased people are cremated in the fire. Amos 2 is very specific about that. Jesus was not buried in the ground he was buried in a cave. Means his body never touched the condemned dirt of the earth.

The day Jesus was crucified could not happen on a weakly Friday because then the sign of Johna would not fit. See Luke 11:29 - 32. The crucifiction of The Lamb of God has a date: 14th of Nisan. Read Lev. 23: 4 - 6. Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, was in the grave Wednesday, Thursday and Friday-nights. Rose on Saturday at the end of the weekly Sabbath.

I mean, that is all well and good to be buried, but I won't be just as a matter of price point and convenience. Hopefully I won't need to at all.

Perhaps it is distinguished in Jewish literature because not all Jewish dead are buried. There have been dishonored Kings who were just cast out of the city to basically rot in the desert and be left for the scavenging beasts of the land. Burial was a sign of respect and honor. Especially in a tomb. I think this is why it's always stated. Died and buried because not all dead are buried. Review OT Kings, Chronicles, maybe even as far back as the books of Samuel. But it does have several instances where the dead are very much not buried on purpose. Because they disrespected the appointment they were under.

A good sermon. I want to point out that he correctly said that Jesus died on the day before the Sabbath, which is Saturday mistakenly today they call Sunday as the Sabbath. Jesus kept the day of rest inn His law Sabbath, Saturday the day He commanded to rest and keep, not Sunday. Knowing this., men changed His command and used the catholic laws to change it. God doesn’t change His commands, only men dare to do so.
