I believe Xisuma's installed a data pack that allows placing a block which will change its power state five minutes before the server restart. You might ask him about it so you can automate turning the sorting system off before a server restart, instead of doing it manually.

I don't know if this is an official server thing or just a feeling in the community, but I remember hearing that some people (maybe some of the hermits, maybe not idk) don't recognize the diamond profits of tunnel boring as legitimate currency because they depend on TNT duping. Obviously hermits are allowed to use TNT duping for machines and whatnot if they choose, but apparently some of them avoid it themselves on principle because it's technically not an intended part of the game, and I guess the issue is it would be unfair to weigh the server economy so heavily against those hermits in favor of the ones willing to exploit a bug for gain. I may be talking out my butt here so don't quote me on any of this, it was a while ago that I heard it and I don't remember the context at all.

I know we've become desensitised to it, but building this entire thing out of deepslate diamond is absolutely goated

But the funny part was he did it backwards to the outside decoration, so perhaps luckily Skizz did so little so it'll be easy to reverse.

That's a really cool story about your young life and the Berlin wall coming down. It's always fascinating to hear about how dramatically and quickly things changed and also didn't change after the wall came down. Stories like that need to be told more often so we as a very stupid yet very smart species dont repeat the atrocities of history.

I don't think the Mojang devs are lazy, but I thing Tangotek has a good point: All that effort that goes into the April 1st update could REALLY go into more useful regions. It's super frustrating to see what Mojang devs COULD DO if they the time into it, but instead they just tease us as a "prank".

^^^ This. I mean it's pretty obvious at this point that they're incorporating parts of The Aether into the main game. The vault block was originally part of the Aether, and I think the floaty redstone block was too. The worldgen of the potato dimension looks like Aether worldgen too.

The devs have said that the April Fools day update was done in a day or two. It appeared to be much more work than it was because they have spent so much time making it easy to add things to the game through datapacks. Kingbdogz also mentioned that the main developers didn’t work on it much, so it sounds like it didn’t even interrupt regular development

there's a reason the april fools updates don't have a report bugs button, and are labelled as snapshots and not releases. no bug testing or balancing or polishing goes into them. They're just super big snapshots with ten times less refinement

I mean, I think the april fools updates are to a certain extent testing out ideas they DO want to put into the game, also I think you are largely overestimating how much work goes into the april fools updates; for example I'm pretty sure that the worldgen for the potato dimension was literally just nether terrain minus the ceiling and lava oceans + bedrock, and then with villages and some other simple structures scattered throughout, and then the boss arena is just a bastion

I love the idea of a random hermit building some factory on the nether roof and suddenly a boat full of bone meal collides with their structure like a blessing from the heavens

It is true that Mojang has made promises (fireflies, new birch forests, etc) and not delivered on them/ scrapped those ideas entirely *after* having promised us that thing. But I don't blame the people actually involved with coding the game, since i doubt they have much sway in the decision. I put the blame on management. I'm disappointed in the way that certain things are being handled, while also being appreciative for the work that the devs are putting in to give us what we have.

I am not a big fan of the way that Microsoft monetizes the game, pretty much a problem with every game owned by a big company but Minecraft is not on the same level of the mess that is Electronic Arts. Also, I am personally not affected by it, but the whole Microsoft account immigration fiasco was pretty sketchy and I heard from people that had a lot of troubles that Mojang didn't do a whole lot to help, and they ended up losing their account because of it

@@andrewbloom7694 if you have multiple minecraft accounts you need just as many microsoft accounts After a couple accounts, so like 3-4, microsoft will prevent you from easily making new accounts. Instead of allowing multiple minecraft accounts on one ms account. Also A LOT of people bought their account many years ago and forgot the password/ lost access to the email address. So often it was impossible to migrate And all that for 'security'...

@@andrewbloom7694I did migrate my account. Tried logging in a year later and it says I don’t have I tried logging into every Microsoft account I have. I contacted them and they weren’t helpful. It’s literally not as simple as “why didn’t you migrate it?”.

I was 17 when the wall fell yet it seems like it happened last year. I remember watching all the celebrations and the hope of a peaceful and prosperous future for not just Germany, but for everyone. It was a great time to be alive for sure.

Doc, Im pretty sure Xisuma has installed a mod that gives you a redstone block that deactivates when the server is going to restart. I think you could use this to switvh off the sorting system in the situation where a server restart occurs automatically

I remember at the end of last season Xuma introduced a redstone way of detecting the server is about to restart. It might be worth asking him about that so you can have a failsafe that turns the system off.

I think the updates that Mojang can heavily advertise in order to get new eyes on the game (and thus more revenue) is different to what the people who already play Minecraft would prioritise. A new mob is easy to get newspages to write a feature about, while a technical change like "improving inventory" would almost certainly not spread outside of the community itself. But honestly, getting free updates, that do not even force you into updating if you prefer an older version? That is both very rare and very very generous!

Previously from Doc: "I'm not Shrek...I don't understand why you guys keep saying that!" Later: "I'll be staying here in the swamp. And also, making it epic!" And furthermore, "Stay off my cardinal axis in the nether!" Like it or not, you've definitely channeled Shrek the Goat this season. And of course, we love it!

I remember Etho had two "donation thanks" areas. First, back on Chocolate Island, was away from the island, a valley with a different TNT firework setup rigged up for each contributor. In one episode he went to each contributor and thanked them in person, then set off all the fireworks. Later, in his new world, he had another donation section in his tree farm (that I think is still there) where each contributor got a sign near a tree. Next time I fire it up I'll look for your name.

I think the people who say "Mojang is lazy" say that because Mojang proposes votes for mobs, biomes, etc. to the community which always leads to winners and losers in that vote. Additionally, those feelings get compounded when a modder can make all 3 things Mojang proposes in a handful of days. I get the frustration (cough cough Caves and Cliffs getting super delayed and then split into part 1 and 2) but, as Doc said, Mojang also has a lot more backend stuff to deal with than an average modder does. Do I wish we could get fast updates with tons of content? Absolutely! Is it possible? No. In the world of business, you can only have Fast or Good. Rarely if not never can you have both and, as gamers, we struggle with accepting the compromise between Fast and Good (Silksong believers know what I mean).

Doc Mojang devs aren't lazy it's the opposite,It's Microsoft Management or Corporate preventing the Devs to do what they really want due to shareholders when Mojang gives them alot of money. Can't wait to see your new base Doc

I think not seeing negative comments about mojang being lazy and all that is more of a testament to your community than the wider community, especially early in the snapshot cycle for 1.20.5 and 1.21 it was a very frequent refrain not just on social media but in chat rooms and servers in my experience.

I've been watching Grian, Mumbo, Scar and co roleplay and mess around on the server for 2 months, getting very little done and then I click a Doc video and see what I can only describe as industrial level insanity on the largest scale. Gotta love Doc.

Story time with doc. I actually quite like that. The basic explaining of redstone is also nice, since it's not always intuitive just looking at it (like you don't know what's in hoppers, barrels etc.)

You notice a note on the bottom of your bill after a lovely dinner with family... "Big Salmon sends their regards." Your stomach rumbles, a terrible foreboding.

19:42 I personally don't view the mojang devs as lazy but I have seen it appear a lot more within the last two years. I believe it's mostly the feeling of unsatisfactory updates (as in not added enough new stuff within a big update) for parts of the community and maybe some lack of communication that they expect from either the devs themselfes or maybe mojang/microsoft.

I find it a bit sad that the swamp idea remains. I wanted to see more collabs as this season started with this idea in mind. It isn't the end of the world that one hermit decides to stay isolated, as there are plenty of shenanigans between the others but it feels kinda strange

That was an interesting backstory. In my village there was a school with impared people. I won't go too much into detail which impairment, but it is generally to a degree that they can do everything, but need additional aids. I went to the normal school. In our secondary school (12-16 years old) we had an annual sports day with our school and the school for the imparied teens. I think the goal was to give the impaired people a bit of connection to the rest of the students. I don't know how well that worked, as we just stayed within our groups. All I noticed was that the impared people were much more competitive than us. Back then I thought that was because they were eager to prove themselves. Recently I started looking into homeschooling and the homeschoolers say that if you educate a person in public school, then that kills motivation in students. I don't yet know how I should deal with this new information, but it is certainly possible that the almost one to one teaching method of the impaired school was more helpful for the motivation of the students than the classroom setting of the public school.

Something I believe can be helpful, you might have some shovels available at the wood shop, so that hermits can borrow them, since many hermits can be "annoyed" by getting multiple shulkers of sand and possibly breaking their shovels. You can get them with villagers, and they wouldn't even need to be that good, since it would be just for sand

I don't think the devs are lazy and I rarely see people who believe so. What I do think is that the devs have different priorities to us players. There are things that we have been asking for years like a bigger inventory and an "End Update", but the devs (maybe Mojang itself) seem to want to do other stuff. I'm happy that we are finally getting the autocrafter, though.

This....same with any game. The devs will have their vision of what they want they want the game to be and how things are supposed to work and many times that is not going to match with what the players want. And players have to get through their heads that they are not always going to get what they want and the customer is NOT always right. Mojang and Mincraft is not Burger King where you can "have it your way".

I find in absurd that, for a game over a decade old, I need to run modified server clients with a half dozen plugins to maintain any kind of order on a public server; even a basic permission system and protection regions would be a major improvement. That said, their back-end team has been absolutely killing it with the technical updates for the past few years. Datapacks are becoming ridiculously powerful because of the features that are being opened up to the community.

Funny story, I was playing on a paper server as my first SMP and I was doing research on MIS. While I was doing so Rapscallion released the Moony-MIS-V5, turns out it works on paper. I built 30 slices and even with low MSPT the Moony-MIS kept on trucking, so it is incredibly stable. While on the storage tech server I was paying attention to a storage system being developed that Mooney was apart of and someone asked about paper and they said that they had never tested it. I piped up with my test and to quote Moony "My man built a fire underwater and made it work". NGL that made me feel pretty good about myself.

I can't wait for someone to make a huge Shrek meme on Doc's land. It's the perfect prank, since it's also a throwback to Mumbo's Season 3.

I saw a post on reddit calling mojang devs lazy earlier today, even calling out one specific dev who used to be a modder. Personally I don't think they're lazy, I just find a lot of the updates to be lackluster to the point that I'm only drawn back to the game every 2-3 major updates.

They're forced to constantly put work into teasers that will go nowhere. Mojang does it simply because in today's day and age. The company's Q score has a massive effect on its value. Every single time players fall for one of Mojang's teases. They're falling for a stupid corporate trick. All the people tweeting, posting on Facebook and KZread. That's what those teasers are about. It's literally a scam. Getting people on the Internet to have some interaction about their game. The more people do it, the more they can claim the company is worth.
