The BEST Homemade Sandwich Bread

I have been making our sandwich bread on and off for the past couple of years, giving up now and then because the kids didn't like it and it would mold in the pantry. But I have finally found the recipe that all three of my kids like! I hope that you give it a try and that you and your family like it!
**EDIT**
Thank you to everyone who has been watching and commenting on this video. I thought I should update the recipe to note that I have now switched from using canola oil to grapeseed oil. Still makes an incredible loaf and is totally healthier!
For this recipe you will need:
6 1/2 to 7 1/2 cups of all purpose white flour
1/4 cup sugar or honey
1/4 cup neutral flavored oil (I use grapeseed)
2 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tbsp dry activated yeast
2 3/4 cups very warm water

I love that you acknowledge that you are able to always make your bread because you have time as a stay at home mom. Im a single nurse working long hours and I feel so many videos act like it’s no big deal and make me feel inadequate. Some people may hate this comment but I wanted you to know that I admire your honestly.

Thanks. It can be hard to be real sometimes. It may feel embarrassing, or like you're supposed to be better just because you have decided to make your life public, but we are all people. People come with flaws and imperfections. We all WANT to be the image that a lot of youtubers put out there, but sometimes you just have to accept your limitations and do your best. Don't feel like you should expect hatred for being honest. I have also, many times, expected a lot more criticism when I lay out my shortcomings on videos. But I am overwhelmed by the encouragement and support that I get instead. It may not be what you imagine to be perfect, but have you considered a bread maker? There are many recipes out there, and all you have to do is put the ingredients in and turn it on. May be a viable option to get homemade bread without the time commitment. Good luck!

I get it. I bought a bread machine over 30 years ago and being a busy mom this worked out great. nice thing is you can make it anytime you want. crazy hours and all. My 30- year old machine died a month ago and i bought another. maybe that would be something to look at. I have two daughters that are NP's and they love it as well. thanks for your sevice!

No worries your day or time will come. I recently retired from an executive job, make bread for my grands now. I don’t feel bad I couldn’t do it for my own babies but I try to make extra loaves to share with them. 🤗

I make 4 loaves at a time. Wait intil the next day and slice. I use freezer bags and freeze everything in 4 slices per bags. I then have bread for toast, sandwiches, french toast at a moments notice. Mostly my son calls and says mom do you have bread lol. I sure do! I prep veggies, onions, celery, tomatoes, bell peppers, poblanos (slice, dice etc) freeze and have veggies for stir fry anytime.

I precut and freeze my loaves. Works out just fine. If you add 3 tablespoons of honey instead of sugar and add 1 tablespoon of AC vinegar, the bread will last longer and there is no vibegar taste.

I’m so happy to hear that you have noticed all the preservatives in store bought breads, ( and all processed food)I wish more people knew ,or cared. One thing I would like to share with you and other readers on this remark page. Research the vegetable oil and what it does to the body. I have used canola oil all my life and recently switched to cold pressed avocado oil. ( I’m 57 now) and was having pains in my knee, hands, inflammation, and weight gain even though I barely eat. I thought it was just aging, but after stumbling upon “ vegetable oil “ and how it causes health issues, I switched. I now feel like I did when I was 30, I kid you not. No more aches and pain, and slimed down without even trying. ( I was only about 15 lbs over weight). It’ll catch up to everyone eventually and everyone reaches for prescription drugs, not me! My point is that everyone needs to know what vegetable oil “ will do to your health. Thank You for reading and please watch the Dr. KZread videos on vegetable oil.

Seed oils are the culprit of inflammation in the body, organic virgin coconut oil is great for the body. Avoid bleached white processed sugar. Honey is preferable, coconut sugar, or raw brown sugar. we all need to educate ourselves about the toxic ingredients being sold to us as “healthy”. Make time to learn what really is going into our food. One way or another You will either pay now or pay later with your health.

I’ve made a lot of bread in my time and I’ve never seen the method of mixing everything together in the beginning and letting the yeast activate that way. This has become my favorite sandwich bread recipe, definitely my go to from here on out!

Aunt Penny here. Making your bread again today with the home milled flour. Last time I may not have kneaded it as much as I should so made sure to do that this time. Also instead of using water I am trying Almond Milk. Will see how it goes. BTW, the last 2 loaves I made I froze one and it thawed great! Same consistency as the first.

This bread is good! Tastes like a loaf of better bread from the store. One word of caution. Those of us who had five or six years of home economics in the sixties will measure dry items differently from young ones of today. We were taught to sift the flour (not necessary now) spoon the flour into the measuring cup and level off with a straight edged knife. (I just stir my flour to fluff it up now, but I follow the other rules.) Be aware--your cup of flour will be lighter than her cup of flour. Your six cups of flour will not be near enough for 2 3/4 cups water. You will be stuck adding flour, one Tbsp. at a time to your dough, mix, scrape sides, mix, add another Tbsp. flour, ad nauseam, for 30 minutes, until your dough finally gets dry enough to start to pull from the side of the bowl. We were also taught--glass measuring cups are for liquids. Dry measuring cups are for dry ingredients. I SMH every time I see Rachael Ray "level" a measuring cup with her finger.

I have the same issue and have found that I just am not allowed to measure dry ingredients by cups. I go by weight. It took some tweaks, but it's just faster and more consistent if I just do the darn thing by weight. =__= Also, Rachael Ray is an idiot. Lmao. I mean her dog food? Just because you can kinda make people food doesn't mean you know how to make well balanced dog food. PASTA IS NOT FOR DOGS. Sincerely, a pet nutritionist

Making this the first time today. I have a feeling the more sugar will make the taste great, as the recipe I was using don't have a lot of flavor. Made cracked wheat last week from the recipe of an elderly neighbor man used to make and it is soooooo yummy also. Almost out of cracked wheat so trying your recipe today. Thanks.

If you can, hone the blade on your knife right before using it. It keeps the bread from smashing as you slice to have it nice and sharp.

Yum! Thanks for making a video on how to make 💚 new subscriber here. We started to make our own bread a few months ago and I’ll never go back to store bought.

Showed some love and subscribed. This is basically my recipe for hot rolls. You just processed it differently then I do for rolls. I find that really interesting that process can change the same recipe so much. I bet it taste amazing. Hugs

Ooh! What do you do differently for the rolls? Because that could be neat. Make 1 loaf of bread and rolls for dinner in one go!
