The BEST Bread & Butter Pickle Recipe | Hiding Moonshine Jars in Cucumber Hills

*Recipe starts at 3:41 In this video I'm sharing my favorite bread and butter pickle recipe. I make it for my family here in the Appalachian Mountains and they just love it. When Granny tasted them for the first time she threw her old recipe away 😀

I’m probably not the sharpest pencil in the cup, but as I watched you make pickles and reminisce on the generations of cooks past as well passing on your knowledge to future generations I had an epiphany, that generational families like yours, are the backbone that created, and to this day make this country a land of opportunity that with faith, love and hard work you can achieve your dreams. Thank You 🙏🏻

I too love all the hand-me-down canning equipment from my family...I have my husband's great-grandma's steamer canner that is over 100 yrs old. His mother used it to can green beans. I use it to decorate my kitchen now, and I also have her little teapot that she melted her canning paraffin in...there's still paraffin left in there. She got the teapot from her mother who was married in 1900. I have my mother's old pressure canner too and her wooden spoon she used to make jam. My ladle looks a lot like yours, Tipper. It was given to my mother when she married my dad in 1956. I could go on and on about my canning hand-me-downs from folks long-gone but well-loved. Thank you so much for reminding us how precious these things are and how important it is to pass them on.

I have a 6 year old grandson who is a very picky eater. However, you could put a bowl of bread and butter pickles in front of him and he'll eat every bit. This recipe is a keeper. Thank you.

Pickle making time always reminds me of my Grandma Raines. She made the best ever! Grandma had 9 children and still managed a garden and all the chores associated with farming. She continued to can clear up until her last couple of years of life. I learned to make Bread & Butter pickles and I also made pickled beets using the small beets so it was very time intensive. When I see you and Corrie together, I remember my Mama showing me how to can. Corrie will never forget your times together.

I don't can much now, I live alone and don't need much. I do however remember canning so many different things. There is a true art to preserving food and it is very satisfying to put up food for your family. It's great to see Corie learning to can. I gave her a bunch of my old jars to help her get into the canning process. I love seeing her carry on the tradition!

Growing up I didn't care for bread and butter pickles. Now, I could eat a whole jar at a setting. Watching these canning videos from start to finish always makes me appreciate just how much goes into the preparation of good, wholesome food. God Bless you all and thank you for bringing us all together once again.

I never dreamed gardening & preserving could be so much work. When I grew up we didn’t have much of a garden- just tomatoes & a few potatoes. The next time I go to the market I will stop at the produce & offer a prayer of thanksgiving to the workers who made all this abundance possible.

I really appreciate your cooking videos. It’s a treat for me to come home from a 12 hour shift and take a shower and crawl up in the bed and watch what you have cooking or what recipe you share for the day. I’ve been having to work more hours at my job and haven’t been able to cook as much as I usually do so I appreciate your videos very much ❤️

My grandma used to make jelly and other stuff. I wish she would have told me to come and help her. I never knew how important this was.

I canned five quarts of bread and butter pickles last week. My recipe is similar to yours except I add crushed red pepper, ground cloves, and a lot more garlic. This was my grandmother’s recipe. So good!

Tipper, watching this video, as with all your videos, I recall some of the very same memories as you. My mamma cooked everything but she never actually let us help with the cooking. We were allowed help with the preparation of the vegetables for preserving. We strung and broke the beans, peas, corn, peaches, apples and whatever else we were canning or freezing. This, of course, taught us the importance of food preservation. This is exactly where I learned to do all the things you and your family do. At the time we were helping prepare the different fruit and vegetables, I was sometimes not too happy about having to do all those things, but as I look back, I really treasure those memories. As always, thanks Tipper!!!!!!!.

Making my mouth water. Those sound delicious. I like how pretty they are in the jar. It's wonderful to hear the heritage of families putting food up. Mom and I always canned together. So many memories there.
