THE BEAST GOES DOWN! EPIC BOAT FAILS AT HAULOVER INLET | BOAT ZONE
Ойын-сауық
Haulover Inlet in Florida is a popular spot for experienced boaters seeking a thrill. Known for its challenging conditions and strong currents, the inlet connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway and is famous for its rough waves and strong winds, which can make boating hazardous. Despite the risks, many boaters are drawn to the inlet's challenging conditions and the opportunity to navigate through it.

For All boat owners who don’t already know….. (I Have had boats now for 56 yrs and navigated the world’s most treacherous waters) in a following sea (stuffing sea conditions) to prevent stuffing and possibly sinking pay Attention to the following. Please note this is Not a 100% in depth look at stuffing but enough to reduce your chances by 90%. 1. Adjust trim tabs all the way up… to give bow lift. 2. If you have outboards trim them right out (not so much to make it Cavitate). This will lighten the bow by up to 50%. 3. If it’s smaller boat put all passengers or weight into the middle & back of the boat. 4. Keeping the bow up and light will eliminate 90% of all stuffing. 5. If you have dual engines use the left of right engine to correct the “ swerve “ when coming down or surfing a wave as the steering won’t do it properly or quickly enough if rocks or jetties are nearby. 6. Keep eye on wave behind coming up and use power going forward to keep wash from coming over the back of the boat and sinking it. 7. Remain vigilant to in front and behind the boat firstly then sides. 8. Never turn so as to put the boat in a position to be hit from the side by a wave, look and time your turn right and quickly as safe to do so. 9. Other than ships etc always hit waves dead on straight and with firm constant power to help avoid being flipped over on your back. This is not just my opinion, it’s fact. Happy Boating. Dave.

Could those stuffings and damage be avoided? Heck yeah, starting with leaving the boat moored.
OK, we are heading out at speed to drive the boat into the face of oncoming waves, everyone move up into the bow of the boat.
I love the carnage. Geniuses; all of them.
Big swells, white caps as far as the eye can see… perfect day for boating!

Stuffing the bow seems to be the national pastime there! Guess no one ever heard of using trim tabs and/or the motor to keep the bow up or "surfing" on the crest of a wave coming in. (at least thats dhow we do it on Lake Erie).

@@keithscudder7136You are 100% right! I think these types of videos contribute to it to be honest. Slamming any type of boat in these types of waves and conditions is just looking for trouble and expenses. There’s a saying amongst experienced boaters that sometimes “slow is pro!”

"Indian Head" Mystery boat... Looks like something new from Apache.
I have not gone through Haulover, some of these boaters are crazy for going out in such heavy chop.
Good grief! Why do people treat their boats like expendables? They could slow down or quarter the waves. The boats with the open bows seem to be more dangerous when driven by fools. Just a couple of times underwater can put up to 3 or 400 pounds of water inside. Then it runs aft and destroys your trim. I have heard outboards don't function very well when full of saltwater. I do love the lines of the Van Dutch. Just plain classy. I am also a fan of bouncing bikinis. Great job, my friend.
Ridding in the bow seems fun, if youve never done it and had your spine compacted before.

Regal I’m sure was founded long before 89. had a neighbor that use to run them from the states back in the 70’s. I think back then. The biggest boat they made was a 19’ bow rider with a single inline six cylinder mercruseer.
Fun to watch over the bar follies
10:23 Dude could have easily broken his arm or nose. That face slam was brutal. 10:23
Nice yacht also
I think jet skis should be governed by the same rules as all boats. Within the inlet, say from the bridge to 100 yards passed the breakwaters all boats should be going straigtht in and straight out. there are just too many safety concerns for anyone to be horsing around in the narrows. Speed should be left up to the operaters.

At 4:19 that boat will never sink :)
Small boats were overloaded with no one wearing a live vest. Wave runners like to run this inlet due to the wave/jumping/etc. Last time I checked you didn’t have to have a license to operate a personal watercraft. You didn’t even have to attend a Coast Guard class on boater safety. So most of these boat operators don’t know anything about how to operate their boat in rough water, following seas, large waves, quartering etc. Most are running the inlet to give their friends a good time by allowing them to ride in the bow to take all the hard bumps and waves to their faces!!! Most of the smaller boats were built for lake/river running…not the ocean. I knew boat owners in Homestead that would not, under any conditions, try to run this inlet due to the nearly constant hazardous conditions. If they did they ALWAYS timed their run to match either high or low “slack” tides. If they couldn’t they either didn’t go out or they launched from a different location. Cheers
At 5:00, the guy falls out of his chair?? As he luxurates on the floor, the Cabin Hatch comes open and SMACKS him mightily. Pretty hilarious
Those Boston Whalers stay docked. Green bottoms. It says "I don't trailer this to a cheaper part of the state."
Can we get a stuffing analysis from first principles of boat length and wave spacing? There must be a way to angle the boat and set speed to keep the bow from digging in to the back of a wave while pitching down from the previous wave?

You know, I have a little app on my phone. It tells me all the marine weather. Especially SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES. I bet a lot of these boaters do not have it or use it.
question... Obviously there are lots of variables that produce swells, flows, tide, and wind to create these difficulties. What percentage of the day is it at its most dangerous? Also, is there anything the city can do to mitigate the danger? Like put a jetty in or use a dredger to move sand around? Just curious. Thanks
It looks like you have only crazy people over there!
The cat @13:37 is so much cooler and better-sounding than all those outboard boats. Nothing will ever replace how awesome real built Mercury Racing V8 sterndrives are. Only turbine cats are cooler.
Wow, didn't know Lexus made boats as well. Honda I could imagine since they make motors.
Stand by on the bilge pumps.

As allways superb
So what is the technique to keep from stuffing ?
I’m convinced that these are the same people that tried the Tide Pod challenge and awaiting the next Darwin challenge.
Seeing so many kids without life jackets is disturbing.

Ive yet to see any of these boats with the bilge pumps turned on. What is their problem?
The small freshwater lake boats not meant to handle salt water or surf conditions are the always the ones with 13 people crammed in them.
34:00 Fenders out..check.. stern line on the swim platform...check... ok lets go boating.
NOT surprising to see that KawaSUCKi break down... Had one just like it.. Heck, that might have been my old one! Sorry Bro
So what happens to all the watter that these little boats scoop up? Do they have pumps to suck it out or something?
You can’t put a price on experience, many folk buy a boat and have little idea of what to do. A boat is an investment and can be enjoyable but in the right environment. A decent dealership will always suggest and recommend things to help you get the best out of your purchase. Do not rush into it but take your time and the reward will be worth the time and effort.
Anacapri boats were made in Miami FL not Tennessee

0:33, seeing the radar I thought this was a scene from Star Wars. :) 5:04, why would the engines continue on full power after the captain has let go of the controls, no wonder people are killed by boat propellers?!
That 1st stuffing. Sometimes a larger boat will do that due to the spacing of the waves. Look at the little Boston Whaler going up and down over each wave.
Those Midnight Express boats don’t seem to hand rough conditions well at all.

Midnight built for rough seas those captain cant sail
I've never been to Haulover inlet, so can someone answer a question for me. I can see that it's not always rough, but when it is, is it rough just at the mouth of the inlet or is the entire area of the sea rough like that? I'm a So Cal boater.
10:28 this is how rich people lose their teeth
Love to know how many bones are broken during these fun runs?
Were are they going?
I think Jet Ski's should be prohibited from the inlet. Because most of them are just hovering around the inlet wanting to ride the swells or the wakes from larger boats. And it's hard enough navigating that inlet for boats coming in and out. The last thing they need is a jet ski getting in there way. Where people could get seriously hurt. I know from what i've seen in quite a few videos they've helped people out. But i still feel they pose more of a risk than anything else.
I am not a boater and am totally puzzled by these videos…can someone answer a few questions? Are these conditions common in this area? Are these people who rent a boat for the day with no clue how to drive them? If they aren’t first timers don’t they know about these conditions? Some of the captains look like professionals wearing some kind of uniform….I would think they would know better than to allow passengers to be up front getting tossed around and banged up. If it is their boat you would think that life jackets and sitting down in the back until they get out of this area would be an easy rule? I really like when you note the cost of some of these boats…clearly the old saying about more money than sense is true no? Thanks in advance for some background and thank you for these videos. 😊

3:44 he spent more on the boat's gas than he did women 🤣

In Australia the training and time to get a boat license is a lot, seriously some of these owners imo look like they have no idea about how to follow a wave in !

Exactly. Painful to watch. More painful on board
midnight express bow/hull design is no bueno... for rough seas. IMO. only owned about 5 boats.
As a true experienced yachtsman I'm amazed at the lack of understanding how to handle inlets. I ran difficult inlets in my first years based on some training from my father. Throttle control, angle...read the waves. Most stuffing here are avoidable. I'd say 10% happens on purpose by the larger more expensive yachtsman showing off and taking an occasional hit. But those are not epic stuffings....
You can really tell the inexperienced boaters, versus experienced. 99% were inexperienced. There’s a proper way to approach these waves. I’d be in barest if I were some of those folks. When you’re scaring your passengers you’re the inexperienced asshole. Can even call them a captain when you’re reckless. I’d really like to see an all high power boat series. Thank You For The Video. * 3-16-2024
Way more money than brains!
Most of these people have too many people on the boat! and wave runners don’t belong in the inlet
The lack of boaters not wearing PFDs, especially children, is sad.......
