@@WavyBoats Yeah I know, freedom and stuff but there really needs to be a regulation in the US similar to here in OZ where when crossing a nominated bar PFDs are required for all. There shouldn't be a need but like here, people "hazz teh dumb" and obviously don't have the sense to take such precautions without being forced to. There also needs to be stricter regulation of existing statutes, create a wake at Black Point and you are toast but do whatever you like on the bars.

She appears to be quite capable and comfortable in the water and doesn't seem to be in any trouble at all, just like swimming in a fast river it looks way worse than it is if you are comfortable in water and a decent swimmer you know that all you need to do is relax, float, and go with it, if i fell into water holding my phone I'd also be trying to stop it getting destroyed, unless I needed to ditch the phone to swim harder of course, which is probably exactly what that girl was thinking too.

Highly advised for anyone navigating Haulover to watch that. Rule #1: keep your bow above the water, especially if you have an open bow. Rule #2: make sure your boat is suitable for the current conditions. Bigger waves = bigger boat. Rule #3: "lake boats" aren't made for the ocean. Lake boats have shallow draft and downturned bows. Stay in the harbor with lake boats. Rule #4: if you take even one wave over the bow, turn around and go back in. With each wave you're getting heavier and sinking deeper, which means the next wave will dump even more water inside your boat. It's a downward spiral, then it's too late. Rule #5: secure all passengers before entering rough water. Rule #6: no passengers in open bow in rough water (judgement call, based on size of vessel vs size of waves). Rule #7: wearing floatation devices in rough water highly advised, kids especially. At the very least have them handy, and in sufficient numbers for all passengers.

Make sure all of the adults have had a few beers and just for fun overload the vessel and plow into the waves as fast as you can to insure the maximum amount of water washes over the bow.

The way these captains have everyone in the front of the boat and trimmed with the bow already nearly in the water is so upsetting, especially on some of the smaller boats. I've lived in Calabash, NC and currently live in Panama City Beach, FL, and have fished and owned boats in both places, I know how rough inlet mouths can get, and I can tell you this: The problem is not the boats but the captains. If you're too ignorant, too drunk, too full of pride, or just too bloody stupid to realize that, when you're in a small boat - especially an open boat - and the head seas get that bad it's time to make a change of plans and stay in the bay, ESPECIALLY when you're hauling kids, you have no business with a boat. BONUS POINTS FOR STUPIDITY: If you're going to try it anyway, be sure and don't insist everyone put on life jackets and warn them to get a good grip FIRST before hitting the rough water. What the **** were these people thinking! Oh, they weren't, were they?

I've spent years as an ocean tour guide in large rigid hull inflatables on the coast. It amazes me that some of these boats are clearly expensive, and yet the operators don't know how to run them and are clearly put their passengers lives at risk. Either they don't have to take a safe boating course or are too arrogant to take one. It's not just the risk of swamping or having a passenger in the water without a life jacket, it's the damage you can do to someone especially if they are on the bow of the boat when a wave tosses them into the air. There are plenty of hard things to land on, like handlebars and the deck itself, or even landing hard on your tailbone or back. To put anyone in the front section of a small boat in high frequency waves is incredibly irresponsible... you can see the slingshot coming from a mile away. Also the happy faces turn to fear very quickly after the first dunking. Amazing video and very educational. Anyone travelling through that canal to the open sea should have to watch this video before being allowed to do so.

One of the constants in life that I have noticed is that the more money a person has, the less common sense they have. I think it has to do with being hyper focused on whatever made them successful, and that ego transferring to things they don't know as well. Plus, money equals power and a twisted sort of respect from others, leading to "yes man" syndrome. They in effect never think they are wrong about anything, ever.

A totally great video on what not to do on a boat. Recently seen a body recovery from the beach side there. People don't realize that when the bow is stuffed, you have a barrels worth of water coming at you about 20.
