This is one of the coolest cars you've done, I love how practical it is. Seeing this inspired me to find the Dakar on a Porsche configure site and build my own. All in, it was $289,548. I got a lot of "no cost" options, the Dakar wheels, heated adaptive sport seats, I did pay $5,200 for the "Rally 1974" decal set, $550 for the heated sport steering wheel, and $4,540 for the Burmester high end surround sound system.

Turning a sports car into an off roader seems much cooler than turning trucks into street racers. I never got the racing wheels and tires on an SUV thing.

As much as I love the technology and capabilities of the 911, I couldn’t really ever see me wanting one for more than a test drive until now. I can totally see a use case for a car like this. It’s not as an off-roader, but as a road tripper. There are a ton of interesting places out there that have rough gravel road access that you would normally have to take a pickup or SUV to get to. With something like this you can visit those places and have a sports car on the highways in between. I already have several trips planned. Now I just need to win the lottery.

I agree 10000%. It's not about going off road, it's about going almost anywhere. Everyone I know they had porshes , lambos, hell even 80k pimped out F 150's are fo with tried about where they can drive it. Sports cars just do not do well on urban roads. Potholes, uneden roads, undeveloped roads, weather. This will go perfect. U sacrifice a little street grip and 0-60, but u can *actually* drive this in SNOW! I'm really surprised more cars aren't made like this. Subaru was really onto something, lol.

Living in the Midwest with awful roads and even worse winters this car would be an absolute blast. I’d love the chance to drive one around here.

I hear that. I imagine ripping across gravel roads and taking it on dirt trails. Hence why people convert older 911s and other Porsches, sometimes even for more slow rock crawly type stuff, but I'd love the higher speed too.

You’ll prolly be able to buy one for cheap in a few years. This is a shameless money grab that’s ripping people off. They’re charging a massive premium for a worse performing car to make people think it’ll be worth a fortune in the future. You can buy a stock 911 and turn it into a better off-roader for significantly less money.

I may not ever get the chance to meet Doug in person, but I do so very deeply Respect and Sincerely Appreciate all that he so very lovingly does for his viewers through his love of automobiles and trucks and all. He shares his genuine passion with his viewers in a very real and thorough and down to earth way. Doug is very talented and skilled at all that he does.

I think if they made the rear wing look similar to that on the 959, it would be so much cooler but the wing that they decided on is not bad either, good job Porsche!

this, to me, is the best looking 911 of this generation. it looks INCREDIBLE. i think it’s amazing they’ve made this, and the same with the Starrato. both great, fun designs and actually functional. i would choose this 911 if i could have any, and i live in the city centre lol

I have just come from the Straight Pipes' video on the 911 Carrera T and said "Other than the GT3 this is my favorite 911" and I stand by that, but the 911 just has so many flavors, the Carrera T, the Turbo S, the GT3 and GT3 RS, and also thid 911 Dakar, I LOVE them all 🥰❤️

The practicality of this version is higher than that of the Turbo S, as there is a trunk, clearance for everyday driving, and the car will also rise in price over time, as the series is limited in number. Doug not accurately and logically put points on

You will definitely make good use of your tent, shovel, tire board and skid plate when you get stuck in the first puddle because of the low ground clearance.

The frunk “bin” isn’t unique to the Dakar. It is an option for 911s. I have one for my GT3 and it works well for carrying things that may get dirty/wet (frozen foods, etc).

The first modern porsche you can drive round the streets without bottoming out over speed bumps. That's why it's cool, you can use it.

Yes, it is a huge gift for the humanity.

As an RC enthusiast I a grew up salivating over the Tamiya version of the 959 Dakar Rothmans version. Even in the 80s as a kid I had enough sense not to ask my father for an almost $400 RC car. I'd love to have this beast.

Doug gets to drive all the fun toys. I'm jealous how giddy he is on the drive.

If I was a millionaire, I would buy this car in a heartbeat. And that's saying something considering the amount of amazing cars around these days.

These new ones are absolute junk they are bottom of the reliability charts and calling this an offroader with its joke VAG road 4wd system is beyond the pale. I love the heritage of the Dakar. I remember watching the highlights as a kid in the early 90's but I can't help but see this as 911 Allroad.

The Lamborghini is just a shitty rip off from the famed Porsche offroad philosophy of the 911 Dakar, which has strong roots to Porsches motorsport history, like the 959 Dakar versions. Compared to the 911 Dakar, the Sterrato is just for 100% a marketing bullshit vehicle without any daily driving purpose, because it's too fucking expensive. And at least the 911 Dakar doesn't cost half a million Dollars like the Sterrato...

Just saw my first one on the road and what a beauty truthfully

This has got to be one of the coolest vehicles I've ever seen! My favorite 911's have always been the late 60's to mid 70's but this one is right up there...

My husband and I joined rally school together! Rallying is so much more fun than slow rock crawling! I recommend it even joining a school that teaches recreation and not competition training! I drive my husband's Raptor R in high speed desert trails like a boss now!

Good luck getting it. I've called everywhere and it's list-based and has been snapped up by the dealerships themselves. I expect a very, very heavy markup like most vehicles.

With how crappy the roads are everywhere, this is great! I had a hard time driving Tesla Model 3 since its wheels are not great for bad roads so going to the Wrangler is a night and day difference, I can go over anything. Going over anything you want and not worry is the best peace of mind.

2500 units for the whole world is pretty rare, especially since most of them won't be driven anyways

Porsche in fact won the Paris-Dakar twice, first with a hacked-up 911 in 1984, and then with the 959 in 1986.

I'm seriously considering trying to source one of these to use in Northern Alberta Canada, in the winter. My 2020 911 is setup, as you;d expect on summer-only tires... but something about this Dakar, and studded winters equals quite an adventure come snow season. I wonder if this is even attainable in Canada?

It would be really cool if Subaru came out with a Wilderness trim for the BRZ. Give it a ~1" to 3" lift, black plastic body cladding, skid plates, a better approach angle, and all terrain tires, and you'd have an absolute winner.

as a huge Golf Country fan this just made my day. i adore surprise off-roaders

Got to see these at the LA auto show, very cool!

Doug just an observation. I would like to see more on the street views of the car. If you can show use different angles from the street to see how the car looks in traffic I believe that would add to the video. Not only with this car of course but with every review.

@@alp.9672 - I know that he works alone but there might be a way. In any case, even with the car parked we oftentimes only get a very few shots from the outside, and never rolling or anything like that. Maybe it is time to step it up and try hiring somebody to help with the rolling shots.

Question: Wouldn't making a Dakar version of Cayenne/Macan make more sense?

Yeah, haven't they just turned the off-road capabilities of this into a Macan with beefier tires?

That little switch shifter would be great for a daily commuter car. Mine has all those other modes I have no use for anyway. All I really need is drive, park, and reverse.

Only #dougdemuro can say the interior seems like "a regular 911" with such ease. Cool car. Great Video.

Hey Doug, great vid! Is this becoming the new thing now? Off road super cars? 2 of the best selling supercars now offer off road capable models. If the Huracan and the 911 have off road models, then there’s more than likely going to be an off road model offered on the Artura, Vantage, Roma/296/Portofino or whatever Ferrari’s equivalent is to the huracan since the F8 is gone).

Ferrari would never do this. They're too stuck up. They're only now coming out with an SUV and they even refuse to call it an SUV. I could see McLaren doing it. Idk about Aston Martin doing it either. Idk if they have the money to really be experimenting with that kind of thing.

I would say these two are the only ones. They’re limited production, and they’re under the same parent company. Maybe they’re trying to get it started, but I doubt it will become the next big thing. Would be cool though!!!

Honestly, I miss the breakdown of each category in the Doug Score. It was interesting to see WHY Doug gave each score.

Agreed. There's almost no point to seeing the Doug Score if he's just going to show us the chart and tell us the final number.

this is the perfect car to park alongside my bronco raptor in the garage. But since it's too expensive, i'd rather buying an used 997 4s manual and start my own dakar project! Maybe i'm lucky enough to find one with carbon bucket seats and powerkit

OK. Now I want to see a Koenigsegg for fishermen and campers... Supercars went perv. 🙂

Now I have three dream offroaders. The Dodge RAM 1500 TRX, the new Lexus GX, and this. Never seen an 911 look beastly. Reminds me of Clarkson's Bentley.

Wow, the 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar is an absolute stunner!
