FIRST LOOK: Porsche 911 S/T - Ultimate 911 with GT3 RS Power | Top Gear
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome to the Porsche 911 S/T. Designed by Porsche as a present to itself on the 60th anniversary of the 911 (there’s 1,963 planned in honour of the birth year), the S/T revives a grand old name from 1969 when a 911 S was sprinkled with a touch of motorsport fairy dust to become the S/T - a fearsome competition car that did without the aid of big wings and hefty aero. A kind of beautiful Frankenstein’s monster, the S/T was a competition car, but not prolific.
The modern S/T follows the same path, though with much more modern vim. Mounted in the back is the naturally-aspirated, 521bhp 4-litre boxer from the GT3 RS coupled to that short-ratio manual (with shorter cogs than a GT3). There are no big wings bar a short Gurney flap on the electric rear spoiler, which itself doesn’t raise quite as high as other 911s. The rear-wheel steer system is ditched to save weight and complexity, and the bonnet, front wings, ‘cage, rear anti-roll bars and shear panel underneath are all carbon fibre. The wheels are centre-lock and magnesium, the glass thinned to shave precious pounds. Even the battery has been on a diet, and now consists of a lightweight race-style lithium-ion unit. Cobble all this together with the slim carbon bucket seats along with weight savings from the powertrain and clutch, and the S/T becomes the lightest production 911. With a kerbweight of 1,380kg, it’s 40kg lighter than a manual GT3 Touring.
There are plenty more facts and figures, and who better to show Top Gear magazine’s Tom Ford around the new Super 911 than the man behind it and the boss of Porsche's GT division, Andreas Preuninger.

This is the 911R of this generation, the car that brought manuals back to Porsche's GT car lexicon. It is also now the most alluring package Porsche sells, according to me. I'll likely never have the chance to own one of these, but if I could have one I would in an instant. What a thing. Eagerly awaiting what the 992.2 ends up looking like and how they try to top this.

Agreed! So happy they really focused on the analog vibe. That coupled with the gearbox changes they spoke about. It sounds like just an absolute pleasure to drive. There is something special about a car that is refined but a beast to drive. That "get it right" sweet spot that melts you into the seat thinking "nailed it" is just so satisfying. Well done Porsche on the concept. Without a doubt, I'm sure it will deliver. ...it is Porsche, after all.
@Fylo-Kalist
10 ай бұрын
@@Sideways_Singh because as a driver, enthusiast or professional, there is something very special when you get it right. That feeling of "being one" with the car. A bull rider does not get assists, and when they nail their ride you will hear them saying things like "I was just one with the bull"...same holds true here. Rear stearing (in a sports car) is more of an assist (like stability control) than anything else. This is why you will hear enthusiasts or "purists" mention, though it makes you faster...it takes something away from the pleasure of driving. These assists give you a confidence you otherwise should not have. The skill is not on the driver but in the tech/car. Without them, there is a respect. You respect the car, it's power, it's agility, it's ability...like walking up to that bull. It can kill you....but if you get it right (and it's all up to you) the sensation of pleasure is 10 fold. ;) it's why the F40 is so beloved.

The many select tweaks all around the car add up and creates its attraction though. The front fender vents, the magnesium wheels, various light weight parts, interior variety and manual transmission all make this THE 911. I like that it’s not necessarily race focused yet has the GT3RS engine. It’s no doubt more comfortable and less flashy than the GT3RS, yet it’s more road focused than the GT3 Touring. As always, probably only 20% of them will pass 10k miles mark on the odometer, the rest of them are garage queen waiting to be auctioned 30-50 years from now
That car is dream material !
My god, this thing is perfect. Subtle, stunning, 6spd, and perfect in black. Perfect porsche for the street!
Thank you Porsche for making a car for real drivers to enjoy. ST for my daily GT3RS for my track action Perfect

Daily driving this S/T is probably terrible. I think most would do it once and then realize they’d much prefer a more comfortable Turbo or Taycan or something.

Immensely beautiful. I'll add driving this on a twisty canyon road to my bucket list.

@AlexanderChristopher-qg4kl I follow no religion. I see no compelling evidence. Been there, done that. No thanks.
Simply awesome!
I love the idea, but you know damn well it'll be $400k marked up and impossible to get.

In Ireland, it's over €500,000 unfortunately. We get utterly shagged with taxes on motoring here.
Tom Ford presented the S/T very well. An enjoyable and likable watch.
Great piece with the master, Andreas Preuninger whose passion and dedication to sport motoring is unparalleled.
911s like these, over the years, just make me so emotional. Never even having driven one or be able to afford. They're simple the greatest cars ever made.
I like this guy. Please keep him around Top Gear; between him and Chris Harris I would watch every episode whether I like the car or not.

Can he be forgiven for saying rifle bolt gear shift?

@@joewaving2684 He said the noise from the shifter sounds like that of a a bolt action rifle. Listen again, words matter. Why would he want or need forgiveness for sharing what he, who is actually sitting in the car and running the shifter, thinks it sounds like? Who are you to have the authority to grant him forgiveness?

@@alexisarnall2341 Firstly I don't appreciate the aggression. Who am I? Who are you? It does not matter. The question was rhetoric which other people have understood. Drawing the parallels from a rifle bolt to a gear shift is the biggest cliche a motoring journalist can make. It is like saying an Italian car was built with soul and passion. That's all.

Double for starters, this one might actually be the last pure petrol manual 911 ever, this could be a million dollar car one day. Anyone who gets one offered would be a fool not to take it..
This is undeniably the best 911 drooling 🤤
Perfect ergonomics.
ANNNNNND it’s sold out!!
And...... They are all sold. 😂
Bravo Andreas! You're a legend!
Wow what a piece of art and engineering ❤💯🔥
Carbon roll cage giving me submarine vibes…
Would that roll cage pass tech at a local track? I cannot imagine they see carbon fiber roll cages everyday.
LOVE the fact that Porsche is still making manuals...everybody else should learn from them
It's beautiful 🙌 I think this may be my dream car
The ultimate car no-one can buy even if they can afford the base price.
