I'm 58 and had a huge beer gut and bad knees that forced me to stop work, I started keto in January 2021and by July I'd lost 80lbs, I went from a 42 waist (my belt line was under my big gut) and ended up being a true 34 waist. I went back to work and just wear a light knee brace now.

My results are over 3 months and not as dramatic as yours, but the effects have been positive. Fasting Glucose levels are almost normal again (they were like quadruple what they should have been. Down to 118 mg/dL today after an initial diagnoses of diabetes 2 months ago with a fasting glucose of 300 mg/dL. All of my other metrics have moved back into green, except Hdls. I need to get them up. They dropped in the beginning of the diet surprisingly, but I am eating a lot more pro-HDL foods, and I haven't had it measured again yet.

The sad thing is that many people believe that they are eating healthy food, when they're not. I was one of those people. Breakfast was whole-wheat bran flakes, with sugar-free muesli - healthy right? Lunch consisted of a cheese sandwich on whole-wheat nutty brown bread - healthy right? Dinner was meat with two veg - plus two slices of whole-wheat nutty brown bread - healthy right? In desperation, dinner eventually became one bowl of HEALTHY soup, with two slices of whole-wheat nutty brown bread - and then I noticed that the soup contained wheat flour! For 15 years, this was my pattern and I was getting heavier and heavier. But keto, with Intermittent Fasting fixed everything and caused massive weight loss. I will be forever thankful for the information on this channel!

When you're so tired of being overweight and out of shape - and the associated depression and other mental health problems that you want to kill yourself, then you're ready to do whatever it takes. I tried pretty much everything that's been in vogue since the mid 80's -- grapefruit diet, cabbage diet, etc etc, and saw only small and temporary successes -- and yes I exercised, too. At age 57 I was able to lose 56.5 lbs within 6 months……just in time for a global pandemic and quarantine starting March 2020. I did ok and maintained 50 lbs weight loss until fall 2020; however, mentally and emotionally it all began to tear-down my resolve. I made a conscious decision to “give myself some grace” in dealing with how our world had changed (as well as several family losses NOT due to the virus). Well, it’s a year later and I’m carrying 40 lbs of “grace” and I’ve had about 40 “day 1 of keto”, even got 5.5 weeks into a fresh start and the mental part of getting back to health is my biggest challenge. But I recall how utterly awesome I felt when my body was healthy and slender! That hasn’t left me. So I will keep at it. Your videos mean so much to help me stay focused. At the minimum at least I know from experience what to do. Aligning head and heart should be so easy. But it isn’t.

@@jenjen7728 Isn’t it odd how we can sabotage ourselves, as if punishment is a reasonable response to feeling like things are out of our control? I hadn’t seen that weight in early 2020 since my 20s (I was 203 lbs June 30, 2019 and lost 56.5 by March 2020). And it felt effortless! I knew I wanted to learn to eat intentionally. But I apparently stopped at that giving myself “permission” to undo the progress I made. I am resisting the urge to demean myself, it was my choice. But it does slowly sneak-up, a pound-at-a-time. And then baboom, I’m feeling I don’t recognize the person I was 12 months ago. A step-at-a-time is how I started summer of 2019. And it’s the same path to health once again. You can, WE can, choose to start again! Oh, one of my closest friends shares your birthdate!

Thoughts on Cheat Days: even if it’s a cheat bite, meal or day, it can easily turn into a cheat weekend, week, month. And, remember as contemplating a cheat of any size, remember how you wanted to get into ketosis and the difficulty when first limiting carbs. Think of this and if cheating is worth the days it may take to return to ketosis. I visualize weighing the want of the benefits a cheat on one hand (short term), and the want of the benefits of ketosis (long term) on the other.

I've always had a slim build and I'm looking to bulk up a bit. Blood sugar issues and kidney problems is what made me look into the keto diet. So far,so good.

I followed your keto plan Dr. Berg, not really for weight loss, but for health, I was already athletic, after 6 months I lost 15lbs of the little fat I had and muscles, but I felt good and energized, especial on OMAD, but too many complaints from the wife, saying I look like a skeleton, but I felt better than I did for years, I'm 52 and was working out twice a day, too much cardio I think, so I'm going to do 2 meals a day, but staying on keto , it's feels really great to be in ketosis, thank you for the inspiration

I had to go watch this again now that I am 3 weeks into HEALTHY Keto to make sure I am doing it right. I am 56 and had Hodgkin's Lymphoma twice in my 20's. I had my spleen removed, and my body has been radiated from head to legs causing residual problems. I have fatty liver disease, chronic sinus issues, fatigue, depression, and now the last couple of years...IBS and 23 polyps in my colon were removed last year. The medicine from my gastroenterologist was not working, so I had to take 2 Immodium a day and Pepto Bismol just to leave my house to do anything. I haven't taken anything in over 2 weeks, my weight is coming off slowly, and I am not spending days in the bathroom until I am bleeding. I had given up on ever feeling better! I am actually looking forward to my blood work and Mammogram to see if I have an improvement in all of it. If you have any inflammatory issues, this is the right plan. I still have a long way to go, but I am starting to feel well enough to live my life again, including hitting the trails beyond my home. THANK YOU! My goal is still weight loss, but also to make smart choices for life.

I was just in Sam's club looking at the Atkins' bars and I noticed most of what Dr Berg mentioned here. I had an employer that was on the Atkins'diet and I explained to him how it's not as good as his doctor sold him on, he sounded receptive, but had that defeated tone in his voice. I don't think he wanted to put effort into his diet anymore. He was over it. On the flip side, I'm a trucker and I lost 30 lbs with keto and intermitted fasting without exercise, due to how often I'm sleeping or driving. I also told my chiropractor of Dr Berg and Dr Ken Berry. He sounds very receptive. My brother and I are going to turn our carbs down to zero with the carnivore diet for the month on January. Then, ease back into ketovore. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Great video!! Your videos inspire me and wished I had seen them last year when I started my "correction process". I had to learn a lot of things the hard way through it..but I am glad that I stayed pretty close to the right line of thought and caution before I discovered your channel. I am 45 this year and a former 11B. I have always been pretty well toned but when my 40s came, I started paying for habits a lot worse..and found weight was coming to me faster and was harder to get rid of. When I hit 240 last year I had had enough..and flipped overnight to serving sizes and throwing out anything junk.... In about 3 1/2 to 4 months I was down to 190lbs and back into boxing and working out. It was nice going from a 42 waist to a 34. As far as a "cheat day"... I have one every week (tonight actually) where I have my bowling league... These nights I go in on a pitcher of beer with 2-3 others and sometimes I will get an order of fries or a chicken wrap. I basically skip breakfast and have a salad...literally lettuce and low whatever dressing (1 serving on that btw) to prepare for my bowling night. I guess to many...a "cheat day" is that day where you kind of indulge or you let yourself off the leash for a meal and eat something you normally wouldn't.. Last year when I lost my 50lbs in 3mos on the Keto etc... I would do an enchiladas Friday every other Friday from my favorite Abuelo's. I wasn't able to eat the whole meal because I would get full on 1 enchilada and some of the rice and beans....but it was delicious and that Friday was nice to look forward to as a "reward" for staying in my groove. Eventually I got to where I skipped those cheat days altogether...but would sneak one in once in a rare while. It helped a lot as far as motivation for sure....as it helped me regulate my thought process sometimes... and allowed me to realize that I truly had the control over what I ate...the discipline to pass things up or just do what I wanted because I had no cravings.

I kept doing keto + IF + light workout. Thank you for verifying, doc.

I’ve got a tip to help you use a lot less salad dressing! You could even start with just one tablespoon of dressing and put your salad in a very large bowl and toss with the dressing. It gets everywhere but it’s just a light coat. Hopefully this helps someone

I love his question to Karen about a cheat day!!🤣😂I have lost inches galore but no more weight loss and I am glad for that. In the beginning I lost 14 pounds and never lost anymore weight. But I have not done 100% Keto either.

Thank you Dr. Berg! I'm 67-female-4 kids & early Menopause did a number on my metabolism! In 1995,Atkins worked great for me, for about 6 months! The only rules were to count the carbs and keep the keto sticks in the mid purple range. However, the diet got boring. Snacking was prevalent and I didn't know that insulin spikes were the culprit to my failure! Long story short, the diet stopped working for me. Periodically I'd try the diet to lose a few pounds! Now I know why it did not work long enough to loose the extra 45 lbs I've been carrying around. Thank you so much for shedding light on how the body works and what fuels and maintenance is required to run our engine efficiently! I will place my next comment in about 3 months time to send an evaluation of my progress. Count this as day one! 😂

The first time I did keto, i didn't fast. Instead, I ate every 3 hours for 12 hours. Basically 6am-6pm. The idea was to get metabolism up. It worked great. I ate breakfast at 6. My trainer had me eat the biggest breakfast I could. Then every 3 hours a small "meal". Maybe a turkey burger patty, hamburger patty, leafy greens etc. It takes a while to adjust to that schedule. I worked out twice a week with my trainer and just did some cardio and stretching the other days. I was not in good shape to begin with. I was losing a pound a day when I kept to the schedule. I ended up losing 45 lbs in a few months. I never did intermittent fasting. I am wondering why nobody recommends this approach. PS I ripped my quad tendon off my kneecap which ended that. Unrelated to keto. I'm back on as of last week. I wish everyone the best. Plan ahead! Be vigilant!

I went grainless and sugar less and the weight loss and lack of bloating was immediate. I guess I was so unhealthy, now I don't feel pregnant every night after snacking. I also lost my appetite or addiction to sugar and bread after like 10 days. I thought it would be a lot of suffering and will power but nope I feel normal eating salads steak and cheese in 2 meals a day. I don't miss the muffins and sodas like I thought I would. Thanks Dr. Berg

Thanks for the pointers in this video. Im a 48 yo female and i've been doing keto and IF since Thanksgiving and I've lost about 23 lbs but have hit a plateau the past few weeks with about 13 more lbs to get to phase 1 (healthy BMI) and then another 15 lbs give or take to get back into some awesome wardrobe options waiting for me in my closet from my 20s and 30s.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that keeps clothes from yonks ago in the hope of getting back into them! I've only started this diet a week ago and still learning and watching videos..... But I certainly feel as if somehow things are moving in the right direction inside of me and so keep up the good work and let's remember that it took years to destroy the working of our inner parts and to be kind to whatever it takes to bring them back to function properly 😁!

Not that I advocate a vegan diet, but you have to admit, you'll never hear one say "I'm a vegan, but every Saturday I have a cheat day and eat a steak." I try keeping the same attitude. As for ingredients, the first hint that something is bad for the keto diet is on the front of the package: If it says "Keto Freindly", then it's probably not.

Great information to know! Thank you so much for these videos! I've been able to keep my weight in check for well over a year now. I started fasting and keto and IF during Covid lockdown in March 2020 through October 2020. Outside gardening really helped from May through September keeping me moving and burning the fat. Now that winter is here, it's a little harder but I'm satisfied with where I am now in my lifestyle of one meal a day and lots of filtered water!

Please can you do videos on: 1. Autumn winter keto diet what we can eat when we cannot buy or source salads easily? Meal plans for winters will help 2. PCOS video for keto weight loss - can we take Metformin on this keto diet and if we have weakness or tiredness what to do for low sugar cravings? 3. Is NIDO milk powder keto? 4. Which protein powders do you recommend available in UK? As we don’t get most of the USA products here 5. Can we consume lentils or daals as I read green mung, yellow mung can be consumed but not kidney beans, chickpeas etc so is there a list of lentils we can consume? 6. Other than berries can we have papaya pomegranate and other fruits? As I am very used to having lots of oranges and citrus fruit like grapefruit is grapefruit allowed?

I do a cheat day once a week and it does cause some problems for me. I notice my chances of getting a headache is higher and my energy level is lowered. However, the trade off is feeling as if I am living a more normal life. And also I am trying to gain weight, so for me carbs kind of help that for me. But I would NEVER go back to eating carbs everyday like I once did. I see myself as 90% keto and its way better than I used to live.

So, I got separation from my husband, who would stress me out. I started sleeping like a baby after he left, I went from a size 14 to a 10 in the last 5 months; eventhough I was eating right for the past 3 years (while living with him). My weight is still high, that's why I don't pay attention to scales, because it's obvious that I've lost a lot of weight. I've gained muscle, I've been lifting weights 👍🏼👏🏼🤗 tryna get a big booty and a small waist 😄 I feel great!

Thank you so much for your videos. I have had a complete mindshift about nutrition and it especially helps to understand how insulin works. I decided to try keto because I had extreme fatigue and brainfog. Now I feel so much better. I enjoy the keto foods. I have also lost about 6.5 kgs in 6 weeks. Previously my weight was just going up and up. Still need to work on better sleep.
