I got into trapping this past season strictly with the goal exactly like yours to reduce the pressure on turkeys, deer, rabbits, and other wild game on my land. I really appreciate all the help I get from your videos. This one was excellent.But I do have a question for you. Our season has closed here in Mississippi for fur trapping although we can trap coyote, fox, skunks, nutria, beavers, and wild hogs year round. How long are you allowed to trap raccoons and possums where you are? And if you don't mind saying, what state are you in? Coyotes, fox, and skunk removal helps a lot, for sure, but raccoons and possums are the biggest turkey nest predators in my part of central Mississippi. I'm looking for a way to get rid of them during the spring nesting season. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You are THE trapper who has inspired me to switch to trapping instead of hunting. Most of those side by sides have a trailer receiver. Could you use a tool tray that could plug into that to carry the coyotes after picking them up so they don't bleed in your box?

@Kaleb Swager I don't set close to the public, I live in the country so to speak, I lung shoot my coyotes and cats.

Great video. I have to use a pick axe for the trap bed and trap stake for the hole, drills don't cut it here in the coldest part of the year. I don't have an expensive hammer drill but my tools get it done just the same. Oh and broke my digging hammer a few years ago thus the pick axe.

Great Video! Did you use the catch pole to choke out your coyotes?

I know this is an older video, but I have to ask...."Why are you making a NEW set instead of REMAKING the original set that caught the coyote?" You identified the issue about blood on traps (which I don't think is as big of a deal as some make of it). Yet you move the location from where ALL OF THAT COYOTE SCENT (urine, scat, etc.), which is the BEST attractant around! I would have cleaned out the original hole and re-bait it, clean up the trap with some grass, re-bed, and go. Just my opinion though.

Great video I'm a new trapper I recently got licensed in the state of Washington trapping is pretty regulated here and we are limited on the methods we can use but I enjoyed watching the video keep posting more videos

Outstanding trapping videos. I was hoping you could clarify what screen wire you are using. I found fiberglass and aluminum screen at Lowe's but I thought you were using something stiffer like some kind of steel screen. Any imput on this would be appreciated. Thanks again for the great videos.

If you want to get the FULL potential out of screen, you use steel screen and lock it under both jaws, it increases your kill zone, plus it holds up better to water. There's a reason real coyote men use steel screen all across u.s. it works

What are y'alls favorite baits and lures? Was that a Tom Stalker auger?

How are you pulling ur anchors ?

Where I live, the screen pan covers don’t work and the reason is the soil is sand, like beach sand. It just sifts under the pan through it. I use wax paper, might not be the best but it works.

What kind of traps? And what size auger for your drill

Dear "Management Advantage" crew, I absolutely love your videos and feel they are at least in the top 5 trapping groups on KZread. My question is this; if ALL my trap sets have gone cold what should I do? I know you'll move it over 4 feet or so but isn't that still leaving a "wise" predator who knows better next time? I am about to just skip scents/baits and start making blind sets! Thank you.-Paul

Get a paper cutter , the kind that's like a shear with a table part and a long knife on a hinge for those pans covers. Cut 100 in 2 minutes. Great video..... Fiji water?....lol

What way do you dispatch your trapped coyotes?

As a kid I used to read E.J. Dailey Fox trapping. His quote was “Lay down great temptation and remove all suspension.”

Likely fur damage and contamination of site with blood

Man I just wanted to say thank you for putting your knowledge and instructional videos on here for us to see.... We have a couple of farms we own in texas and I have just watched your channel and got all the stuff to start trapping the coyotes by the way our fawn crop was terrible last year. We have a lot of coyotes and I am already seeing success catching some of them thanks to you bud. ( O and yes it is so much fun and addictive haha)

Fences, snares and Texas is like seining coyotes!!!!!! Learning the art of making blind sets is well worth the time invested. They have no defense against blind sets none. A man could wear out a knife in a seasons time skinning furbearers if he only used blind sets. You catch stuff you didn't know was around, numbers wise.

With the exception of cats the critters hunt with their noses but I've never heard anyone mention prevailing winds/breezes as a factor. Possibly because sharing the trail with them eliminates the need. Doesn't work that way in the woods!!

Good video, but coyotes don't dig traps in general. Trail camera footage has proved that to me time and time again. Coons, skunks, red and gray fox dig, and a dumb coyote pup might scratch at pattern if he feels something. But in general they don't dig. They are not wired like a fox. Foxes are about as easy to catch as a coon. There curiosity gets the best of em. But when a coyote senses something wrong, they get out of dodge. Some other animal digs in the loose fresh soil looking for grubs, then a coyote walks by and leaves a track or does a kick back, or leaves a turd, and everybody says he left his calling card. This is my opinion, but an opinion I formed by years trapping, tracking, hunting, and many sets made, animals caught, and trail cam footage. They do dig at your dirt hole trying to get your bait and in the process they may flip the trap out but as far as one stepping on lever and trap moving then the coyote intentionally digging your trap up, just don't happen in the real world. They aren't smart I don't think. There not dumb either I belive. But there is more between there ears then a coon or fox I truly believe that.

Do you kill the coyotes?

Read more than one article on coyote scat written by biologists dealing with DNA . Seems there is more opossum in the samples than anything. Coon than skunk. Less than 1% of samples collected contains turkey. Deer was present in 21% of samples. No way to tell if road kill was a variable. Just saying that the coyote diet was nest eaters more than anything. A lot of guys use dogs on the trap line to help them decide where to set. Your dog will mark things that a coyote does to. If he marks a small tuft of grass or bush something like that, it may be a good idea to consider setting a trap there as a coyote may come by to mark the same spot. Also pay attention to how your dog walks a area or road or how it approaches things. Some dogs will just plow through weeds and brush like a bull dozer others are more cautious. My dog is very hyper but if I look where he walks a road it is almost always the same exact path the coyote tracks are on. They change sides at the same places and walk down wash outs. It has helped me with locations on flat sets and I have become particularly successful with blind sets because of it. Just my opinion

I caught a yote last year and when I dispatched him he bled like a stuck hog. I remade the set with the same trap in the same hole and caught another yote three days later.
