    Yeah. It's like the meme "where have you been all my Life?" "The first two thirds, I wasn't born yet" The only thing I can somewhat see is the first point (as a childfree Person I also wouldn't Date a parent) but If somethings a deal breaker, it's a dealbreaker, not a point deduction.

  • @Amy_the_Lizard

    @Amy_the_Lizard

    The only one that seems sorta valid to me is the point deduction for prior cheating, as if that's a reoccurring thing that the person does, and you aren't okay with the possibility that they might see other people while they're dating you, that would be a major con to dating that person. The single parent one also has some validity, but if it's a deal-breaker it shouldn't have a point deduction, it should simply remove them from the pool entirely...

Just think about why ONLY girls have to make these pledges - when the bible (and most other holy books, but I'm assuming you're Christian, because most of the English speaking world is) says virginity at marriage. Not "virginity for WOMEN at marriage". Just. Virginity. Since there's an actually requirement for chastity for BOTH sexes, WHY ONLY GIRLS TAKING THE PLEDGES?! Why is it ONLY girls are expected to be virgins at wedding? Why the assumption that boys WON'T be? (And why is it assumed, no okay, no pressure on boys typ have sex, have LOTS of sex, they aren't MEN if they don't have sex! Who are these guys having sex with, since all women are chaste until married and then only have sex with husband?) There's a LOT more and it gets scarier the further one goes... And it's ABUSIVE. I'm currently planning my wedding, and some of the crazy weird gendered rubbish I seen makes me want to puke. When wedding people see me as the bride, they firstly assume my partner is a man, and that I'm straight and not marrying a woman, but also then force these weird gender assumptions on everything. They're shocked when they find out my partner is actually helping me plan the wedding and has a say in everything but my dress. If anyone starts with the "game over" or "I hate my husband" jokes at or around my wedding I will actually flip

    I had this too when I got married last year - I'm genderqueer afab, and my partner is a pre-everything trans woman. We went with my mum to a few wedding shows before the pandemic; my partner was almost completely ignored by everyone, but my mother and I were showered with questions and comments. If my partner - who people were clearly labelling as "the groom" - wasn't interested in the wedding planning, then they wouldn't have come with me to the show (not least of which because they actually tried asking people questions)! In the end, my partner organised all the catering, had a say in everything I organised, and we both sorted out our outfits together (some advice: if you can get something tailored to fit you, please do that! We got some really lovely, gender-euphoric, unique wedding suits made to measure for less money than it would have cost to buy something similar off the rack).

    My favourite thing about the word "Alpha" is that in recent studies people were observing wolves in nature and came to find out that all this time the "Alpha" of the pack was female, and they were protecting their group and offspring. So the term Alpha has been completely screwed up from day one in English. X,D (I enjoy the looks on people's faces when they use that word now. It's just basically slang and lost all meaning at this point.) XD

    Ok, so I grew up in the middle of purity culture in the evangelical church in the early 90s. I read the books, I had a ring, and I signed the cards. (Yes, it messed up my perception of intimacy and I've struggled with it in my marriage, if you were curious.) But I NEVER came at all close to the creepy virginity pledge thing. My dad NEVER made it about him and he would have throttled anyone who would have suggested such a thing. And he is the least violent person you'd ever meet. That is so creepy, so gross and just wildly inappropriate! Bleh!

    Ugh tell me about it. I grew up Catholic in the 2000s so I only got the abstinence only talk and signed a pledge. My parents were cool if I decided to have sex outside of marriage. However a couple years ago, I assisted in planning a father daughter gala at my aunt’s Evangelical free church which was all about fatherhood and girls saving themselves for marriage. Let me tell you, there is nothing more creepy than a woman telling a room full of young girls that Jesus’s sacrifice was bought at a price - their purity. Oh and did I mention this was around when Unplanned come out so everyone was talking about the evils of abortion prior to this dance?

    Congratulations, Jamie! You're so humble; wondering how you got nominated with ALL that you've done and continue to do for the LGBTQ+ community. Seriously: the moments of light you've brought to many of us in dark times, the support and comments of the community you've grown, the charities and services you've championed; you have done so much to try to make being LGBTQ+ better, especially for young people, and that SHOULD be celebrated. You can be surprised, but we all KNOW how awesome you are. Edit: I, a wlw, wish I could be butch enough to skip a period once in a while. 🤣

    @@sakshikandgatla5795 It's basically a formal event, where fathers and daughters (usually girls who have just begun puberty/mensuration) dress in formal wear and eat and stuff. Where fathers make a vow to protect their daughter's purity and daughters make a vow to not have sex before marriage. The idea is that it improves father daughter relationships which (in theory) make them less likely to get into sexual relationships at young ages. In reality, like most abstinence only initiatives, studies show that girls who go to Purity Balls have sex at the same rate as those who don't, but have higher instances of STDs and teenage pregnancy. The other big criticism of Purity Balls is that they reinforce old, sexist ideas about marriage and purity and fathers controlling their daughter's sexualities, especially since it's not like Mother-Son Purity Balls exist. It takes two to tango, after all.

And on the note of the whole "women shouldn't give gifts to men/men always pay" thing...oh, heck no. My little-bitty grandmother would've practically stabbed a guy for trying to take a restaurant check from her, and that included family members. That woman had a damn system when it came to her airline miles credit card, and woe betide the fool who disrupted that. Even trying to take her out for her birthday would become a perilous balancing act for my dad, uncle, and aunt, as they tried to treat her out for a nice lunch or dinner, without her getting hold of the check at the end of it.

    2:28 Honestly Jamie's reaction to this was mostly a big mood, but I was mostly caught off guard by the fact that he swore. Like, that rarely ever happens and it shocked me a little. Also, I'm calling out my mom right now because it's semi-related. So, I was under my parents' bed looking for my binder (which she stole from me) and on her side of the bed I found this really old copy of Fifty Shades Darker. My older sister told me that she had found it under there when she was around 12 and looking for other various contraband. Keep in mind, this is my conservative Catholic mother, so I am so looking forward to the next time when, next time she tries to bring "God's will" about how she thinks I'm not trans, I will bring that up.
