    I speak for any DECENT straight person who is your friend/family when I say, honestly I don't give one flying crap about your preference in bed. I will try my best to respect your pronouns, but please don't try to shove it in my face. I'm sorry if I offend you by saying this, but I really hate it when certain lgbt members use sexuality as a way to justify certain actions, like yelling in my face when I accidentally use the wrong pronouns. Sexuality or being trans doesn't justify hurting the people that actually support you and your decisions. Me talking for myself I'm sorry if this offends you, but when someone yells in my face over my mistake it hurts. I'm a cis straight female and I have autism, so most of the time I don't catch social cues and make a mistake. I make it blatant that I have this and I make a mistake here and there without realizing. So when people say, "That's not an excuse for misgendering me" it hurts. Bc Autism and any mental or social disability is a real problem that causes people to accidentally say something wrong and not realize it or not be able to learn as quickly as most would like. Sorry if I'm rambling and it's bothering you. I will stop now.

    The whole notion of "protecting" women is so infantalizing. It's not a matter of protecting anyone, it's a matter of stopping the (actual) harms in the first place. The goal of feminism isn't, for example, to secure the "privlege" of fighting for reproductive rights. It's the vindication of the rights themselves.

    A guy in my class is super homophobic and because his opinion is the "only valid one" all the other boys just.. agree (even though I don't think that's what they genuienly think about lgbtq) So we have this half of the class that makes homophobic and transphobic jokes vs me, a very queer trans guy (still questioning but I think this is what I am) that loves talking about my "future wife" (still look very much like a girl so yesh but yah) and what it's like having cool queer friends, I do it extra much because I know it annoyes the hell out of that one guy. Dressed extra gay with loads of rainbow for a while until I finally kind of found my style. Our current topic in English class is gender identity (my teacher is really cool and a friend of mine and me both think he might be queer himself) and I feel sorry for him because of all the comments the boys just make that are so damn unnecessary, but in todays lesson we watched a short film and the boys actually weren't so against it. One of them even avoided using pronouns entirely because he didn't remember "they/them" (we're German) but didn't want to just call the person a him and misgender them. I kinda have hope now lol

Just live your life without talking about it" and when I said people shouldn't have to debate it because it's nobody else's business, but since they're discriminated against and literally killed for being themselves they have to defend themselves, she still didn't understand. She just said (sorry for thansphobia) "but what if women don't want guys who think they're women in their changing rooms" and I was just stumped. Like, people actually think like that outside of extreme internet echo chambers? She's also right-wing so that might explain it. Sometimes I forget people are so narrowminded, and then they remind me and disappoint me so damn much.

    Communal changing rooms are a violation of privacy regardless of gender. Changing rooms should be small, lockable booths for one person at a time. Likewise, toilets should come in lockable stalls. Likewise, showers should come in lockable stalls (except those that sometimes exist in public pools that aren't gender segregated anyway because you're supposed to be wearing swimwear while using them - distinct from the entrance/exit showers that are used to get clean before and/or after the main part of your visit). All of these should be visually insulated from floor to ceiling. No gender segregation, only individual privacy.

    What always strikes me about the "why is there no straight pride" crowd is that if it was genuine, there would be a lot of diversity to celebrate. Biological parents, adoptive parents, bonus parents, love overcoming prejudice or racism, young love, finding new love at an old age, sex positivity, sex with disability... god forbid even kink. If you wanted to, there is straight pride to be celebrated that would make total sense, and be inclusive. But that is not what they are asking for...

    And straight aces, straight intersex people, heterosexual relationships between people in the LGBTQ community...ect; even straight people who are questioning aspects of their identity. Honestly, we really should have straights represented at pride, if nothing else than to get the bigots to shut up about that. (I am saying this as a bi nb married to a pan in a homosexual-presenting relationship just to be clear before anyone jumps to conclusions)

  • @keythealien

    @keythealien

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@PlatonicLiquid um, those people are represented at pride. Asexuals, intersex people, questioning, those are all under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. Heterosexuality itself isn't "represented" but there are plenty of people in the alphabet mafia that represent it by being themselves. Also, heterosexual relationships with LGBTQIA+ individuals aren't a valid reason. If two opposite gender bisexuals get together, they are both still bisexual and in a bisexual relationship. Two opposite gender heterosexual trans people can get together, too, and it may be a heterosexual relationship but that doesn't exclude them from pride. Even if only one member of that relationship was trans, it would still be a LGBTQIA+ relationship even though both people are straight. Maybe I read too much into that one in particular because it offended me personally since that's shit I've been told (you're dating X, you're basically straight now!) all my life, but I still feel my point is justified on that one. Plus, hets and cis people aren't bAnNeD or whatever from pride. They can join us to support their LGBTQIA+ loved ones or just show up to party with us. As long as they aren't rude or phobic, everyone can go. Heterosexuality doesn't warrant its own representation. Heterosexuality has no negative connotation in society; it's a default. Saying it needs to be represented in pride is like saying white people need to be represented during black history month. No, that's not for them, and pride isn't for heterosexuality. Pride isn't just a party, chief, it's about awareness. Everyone knows what straight people do, are, what they've done, etc. How many LGBTQIA+ inventors or scientists do you know off the top of your head? Do you know what common things you use were made or the creation/use of made possible because of work done by people in the alphabet mafia? Probably not, right? Pride is meant to raise awareness of those great things we've done but never got credited for, to be loud and demand equal rights, to say we don't deserve to be discriminated against for being born. Heterosexuality does not need that. The bigots can stay mad. They'll never be happy anyway.

    I have a really good example of this. The other day in the lab I found a colour swatch book for paint colours, and they were in all just shoved in at random. I made a comment to a collegue saying they should have arranged it in rainbow order. He got mad and said not everything had to be rainbow and just because I was LGBTQ+ didn't mean everything had to be rainbow, bla bla bla. But that's not the reason I wanted it rainbow to begin with, it would just make sense for colour flow and would make comparing similar colours easier. And you could even argue they are then sorted into light wavelength with is super handy for a lab setting. Just because I like rainbows and use them to organize my space doesn't mean it is always linked to LGBTQ+ things. Sometimes, it's just a rainbow. 🤣

    When I go to Pride celebrations, I usually go walk around the gayborbood for a couple of hours and find somewhere else in the City to have dinner so it's not so crowded when I'm taking the train home. I'll take a Pride crowd over St Patrick's, Cinco de Mayo or NYE trainload, though.

    I’m not the most qualified, but I think a lot of this is a misunderstanding of what the purpose of pride parades are. It’s not just for celebrating being LGBT+ just to celebrate it. It doesn’t mean straight and Cis people don’t matter at all. It’s at least partly about awareness. It’s about saying “We’re here and you cant change us!” We’re not looking for more rights, we want equal rights. No one is trying to change straight or cis people. Just as a point though, please do not glare at a straight person/couple at a pride event unless they’re actually being homophobic/transphobic. They might just be there with their LGBT family. Maybe they’re trans. Maybe they’re bi or pan in a straight relationship. Even just allies. Come on, people!
