@@jjsalas Maybe because in DBZ, Piccolo is more of a father figure to Gohan than Goku is. In short, both Trunks and Gohan have bad fathers. And Piccolo does not want for Gohan to feel that emotional vacuum left by Goku.

I thought there was three layers of the joke. The fact that 18 was specifically bringing up his hair color as the first thing she said about 16, suggests that fixating on "soulless ginger" jokes aren't beneath her, but also that she states this as she's leaning over Android 16's pod means said "soulless machine" is literally beneath her. The third layer being that Cell is currently being developed in the Sub-Lab beneath her feet, and he does make a soulless ginger jokes, but far more maliciously.

No. Goku's character is based on Sun Wukong, also known as Monkey or The Monkey King. Sun Wukong is a character from a classic Chinese novel called "Journey to the West" in which he acts as a guardian to the monk Tripitaka who is on a sacred quest to retrieve a bunch of holy Buddhist scrolls form India to China. Son Goku is in fact the Japanese version of the name "Sun Wukong" and Dragon Ball is hevily influenced by that classic novel.
