Taste Testing Polish Food #2 [Kult America]

On this episode of Kult America I'm going on a food journey of my life, to taste dishes typical for a place, that is very close to my heart, which is Podkarpacie.
There will be not only simple, peasant food, but also some nobleman hunting dishes. And of course, a lot of pierogi!

My first experience with Polish food was stopping at an Orlen in Ostróda. It was Pierogis, and at the time I didn't know what it was called so I just pointed to something and the guys there made it for me. It was so good even if its 'gas station food'. I think Poland's quick food is 10x better than what I got here in Texas.

Good to hear that they are tasted good:) But the true "pierogi" (i love "ruskie pierogi", and they are not Russian but Lithuanian:) must be maded with pork cracklings and served by an original Polish "babushka", with a fresh "kefir" or "maślanka" to drink... And im writing this with a bottle of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire, Marlboro cigarette, Zippo lighter in one hand and waiting for my pierogi for my dinner... And dreaming about a real Texas bbq if i must be honest :D

Phenomenal drone shots Ryan, not to mention how incredible the food looks. Being Scottish, I am used to wild meat and fresh seafood, however your food looked exceptional. We also have nettle soup in Scotland, my grandparents used to clear it from around their croft to make it. Food passed to us by previous generations has such an impact in our lives today, it creates joy and happiness and has the ability to alter our mood as well as our taste buds.

It's a really amazing and marvelous short documentary video. You should have a TV program, but don't forget about your KZread fans! :) You just made the best video I have seen in a long time - showing great history combined with food. You are doing it better that most Polish TV professionals. I am definitely showing it to my american friends, so they can hopefully visit our beautiful country in the future. You are doing a great job - please continue. I hope I can visit my home country Poland next year, and I hope I can invite you for a dinner to my grandma :). I come from Lezajsk - very nice, small town, about 30 min away from Rzeszow. If you have time, please visit my town. It has a great history even though it's very small; 14,000 people living there. You can find a huge historical Catholic monastery, a Jewish cemetery visited by thousands of Jews each year, and a great brewery of Lezajsk beer. We have great cafe's and restaurants as well. I hope you'll find some time to visit Lezajsk one day. Thanks for your work!

Ryan, you need to try the Uzbek pierogi at the Ratuszowa in Nowy Sącz! Outstanding! I have family close to Kolbuszowa, so next time I go to Poland I have to try C. K. Galicja!

Golabki should be shown and tried also. My family sometimes makes those, when they do, they make a massive pan and everybody pigs out on them. The ones we make are pork, rice, onion and salt/pepper, wrapped in cabbage leaves and boiled in tomato sauce. It creates an amazing flavour as the vinegar in the sauce is mostly boiled off, and reacts along with the tomato and cabbage leaves to create an amazing flavour. It's true comfort food...

Żołądek Ryana musi być większy niż czarna dziura. On jest na pewno chudy, no ale spójrz na to, ile strawy on zjadł...P. S.: pokrzywa to ciekawa zioła, lubię herbaty zrobione z pokrzyw.

I highly recommend visiting Wielkopolska and trying soups like czernina, szparagowa, then plendzle, pyzy and roasted duck with apples and groats. Poland is famous of its oats/groats variety. I know you like pierogi but you've focused mainly on eastern/southern Poland, however western and northern cuisine is delicious as well:)

THIS ONE: It is a very, very, ancient dish: "Hunters Stew,.." I absolutely love the pierogie this is what my grandmother s house keeper made for me the whole entire day, the first time, I went for a visit, she asked me what is my favorite, I said: The Blue Berry, that s what she made, the entire day,..! That is my best memory ever,..!

Masuria, Kashubia and other parts of Poland have plenty of lakes, so that's where the fish (lakers?) mostly come from. :) Fishing (along with picking mushrooms) is our national hobby I guess.
