Suzuki Intruder Problems - Left Me Stranded...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Suzuki Intruder Problems - Left Me Stranded... The Suzuki Intruder is fighting back every time I feel I have it fixed. This time it left me stranded! The fuel system has had corrosion built up in it which is why I rebuilt the carburetors originally but now I am having lingering issues with the fuel pump and sediment within it. I have had to re-clean the rear carburetor pilot jet twice now but by the end of this video the pump finally quick building pressure and I lost fuel supply to the front carburetor. That limited flow wouldn't allow me to limp the bike home so I had to be rescued. The Intruder saga continues!
Update 4/16/22
This bike was having many fuel flow issues that all stemmed from a very corroded tank. The fuel filters I tried to install also limited the fuel supply and potentially caused the fuel pumps to die. Getting rid of the filters helped flow but of course would then clog the jets. For now the owner has a new tank that Ill be installing which should help solve this series of issues for good.
Update 6/13/22
NEW Fuel tank Installed from A Honda Rebel! Our issues are finally fixed for good!

I'm working on a 1999 Intruder 1400 trike and having trouble with the motor not getting fuel. I have not pulled the fuel pump off yet, hopefully the one I ordered for my 1500 Intruder will fit and get this bike running. Just like yours it has been a headache for everyone working on it. Thank you for the information on my next step. God bless.

What can make the fuel pump not work when connected to the bike. The fuel pump works when connected straight to 12v battery. Replaced the fuel relay still the fuel pump does nothing. The bike runs when you gravity feed it from external gas tank. Does the ECU control the fuel pump as well

  • @BrickHouseBuilds

    @BrickHouseBuilds

    2 жыл бұрын

On these bikes the pump does not run all the time. They are activated via pressure switch so the pump does not push too much fuel through the system. There is no ECU but rather a few relays.

HI, I feel your pain as I have a 1400 as well and pushed it many times and heard that stalling sound,,,,I have 2 questions, You keep saying there is sediment in carbs, and in the pump halting the fuel system, Help me understand why you didnt go directly to the tank and fix the issue at the source? im not sure if you pulled the tank, filled it with fuel and let it drain into clear container to see the actual debris it was pushing, it seems if the carbs and pump were being clogged it was coming from the issues with the tank, all those inline filters are barley bandaiding it,,,,,2nd the exhasut sounds nice, what pipes and baffles are you running? Right the tank was very rusty. My buddy had spent a lot of time trying to clear it out and even patch holes. After this video he even attempted to line it but the tank was just too far gone. Either you had multiple fuel filters to stop rust which would then vaporlock the system OR....you had no filters which would put rust in the pump and carbs. I ended up tank-swapping the bike which I have a follow up video on.

But the 750 actually rips... So far so good man. Sometimes I go on 100 mi trip riding all afternoon. No problem. I put a good clutch in it and a quality regulator. So far she's good. The guy parked at 6 years ago but before he parked it he had it tuned up and stuff but he must have noticed it needed a clutch and he parked it. I don't know. He also didn't realize you had to pull the clutch in to start it like a dummy 600 bucks. I can't complain. I also have an inline fuel filter on it. I've changed it a couple times in that 6 months span. ... Everything's been great except now I'm developing an oil leak. I cleaned the screen and replaced the gasket on the little screen pick up thing on the bottom of the engine and after that I developed a little leak. It only comes out when it's running and hot and then when you park it they'll be like a quarter size drip in the morning. I can't really see where it's coming from. I don't think it's the shift shaft sale. I replaced the little gasket on the cover to the screen on the pickup so I don't know if it's a gasket in between the main case or the oil pump gasket. Maybe I'm over revving it. Maybe I'm too aggressive for this bike. I don't know but everything else seems mint besides this new oil leak and I can't really see what's going on. I can't get under it really. I don't have a lift. I've been spraying it off and then trying to see where it comes from but it's hard to tell

A combination of thing all fuel flow related. Sediment in the tank meant running filters was a must. The filters caused multiple pumps to airrate and burn up. With no filters it would push crud into the carbs and block the jets on the rear carb as its first in the line of fuel flow. A new tank has been bought but I haven't been able to schedule it in yet

Maybe a little late but to be of some help here: Its a common issue that the pump itself is broken. Its working at the start, but later just stops or at leasts works a lot shittier. Replace with a genuine suzuki and yo ushould be good

Been through at least 3 pumps here. More issues also like rust in the tank limiting fuel flow to the petcock

@@BrickHouseBuilds genuine pump of off of the bay? The aftermarked ones are sh*t. If your tank is rusty: get 2lb of citric acid powder, fill up close to full with boiling water, pour in the powder. Now you should put in a immersion heater, the travel ones fit in. Let it sit for two days. Careful, make sure its not overflowing all the time. At times change the position of the tank to make sure all sides are equally covered. Afterwards rinse thorouhgly, but do not use plain water (too aggressive)! Use water mixed with soda or washing detergent (caustic) to rinse the tank. Then get a bottle of phosporic acid (75%-85%) fill in the tank, seal the lid, swish it around, let it sit on each side for 5 minutes. Rinse back into the bottle, keep for future use. Then rinse with denaturized alcohol. Its now 100% rust-free and the phosphoric acid created a thin layer that prevents new rust.

@@heinrichvaube2741 I normally do electrolysis for gentle stuff and acids when needed. This is not my bike so the rust removal was done by the owner. The tank had many holes in it so its being replaced. Yes stock pump and aftermarket. Its been a journey.

They have the , not sure what they callem but they look like gold stone filters in some cheapass fuel line valves, (they work great far as i can tell) i ripped one off the valve and shoved it in the hose. Got a VS700 and yeh... the filter in the tank petcock is sketch AF. I may just get more and shove em in every line now 🤣🤣🤣

So I don't have a bunch of money don't we all? But I'm going to look at two bikes and I'm not 100% sure which one I want. One is a 1990 Suzuki intruder 750 with 15,000 mi clean title. Need to starter battery annual tune-up.... Oh, and $700 is what he wants.. the other bike is a 1980 Kawasaki LTD 440. One owner also only $12,000 mi and really good shape runs obviously in storage cuz it's winter where I am and I don't know how long it's been parked but it runs so he must start it and ride it you know. Or at least he did in the spring or or when the snow melted recently a couple weeks ago. So it's possible so that one only needs a card cleaning and tuna. 1100 is what he is asking so they're both around the same money. A little bit different but not too drastically different. And yes, their drastically different bikes though. I mean from what I'm reading and hearing the 440 is a more reliable engine and somehow it has a higher performance rating. I don't know if it's because it's lighter and it probably handles better because power and speed is not the only part of performance. Some people forget that. So yeah those are my two bikes on debating on. I'm kind of feeling the 440 but just wondering if there was any opinion

I'm not sure those two bikes can be compared as they are so different. The Intruder 800 makes 15hp more, is liquid cooled, 10 years newer in ways of better manufacturing, better wiring, better everything, and cheaper. Seems like a no brainer to me personally. The intruder will also be a physically larger and more comfortable bike in stability.

@@BrickHouseBuilds ended up with the intruder for 600 bucks. Needed a battery tune up... Rectifier regulator and a clutch kit. I already had brand used tires on it they're from 2018 but the guy never wrote it so they're like brand new. No dry rot so far. I'm into it about 1500 but every time I ride it it's surprises me for a 750... Edit... Also had to de-rust the tank and slap an inline filter on the fuel line, replace the whole line and put and in line on it also had to get a nos blinker and ignition coil for rear cylinder and do fork seals... Flat track bars and risers also... Yeah it's a lot of work but that's the fun in it... I wasn't able to do things on my own it would have cost me a lot more.... For now she's ripping 14,563 miles and counting
