Chances are that most of y'all dont know but Dynaman was the first and ONLY Sentai series to get an English Dubbing for the USA Network in the 80s for that Network late night block. They only did 10 episodes.

The history behind Power Rangers in a funny one, Saban in 1984 in Japan came across Bioman, he decided to make a pilot, tv stations said NO, then he tries to get the rights for the series airing in 1991 (Jetman), Toei's president initially denies the request but after a meeting in which Saban sang the Jetman theme song in a restaurant out loud, he decided to let Saban have the rights( the thought that Saban was crazy enough to pull the adaptation off), Jetman is quite dark and mature, so they decided to use Zyuranger to start Power Rangers cause was a little more light hearted, Fox Kids greenlighted the show, after Mighty Morphins massise sucess they didn't want to change the cast or the suits, so they decided to film additional episodes with some Dairangers villians and the mechas, they even used the Kibaranger suit to make the White Ranger's suit on Power Rangers. Current the rights to Power Rangers are with Hasbro, but the deal with Toei is off so after the current season i'm pretty sure they are going to be original Power Rangers stuff, if i'm not mistaken. But the deal being done, it's working for Toei's favor too, cause now they don't have to hold back that much. Fun fact, Power Rangers is aired in Japan too, RPM is one of their favorites, they even used "It's Morphin Time" in Go-busters

Saban tried to adapted Kamen Rider as Masked Rider and then The CW adapted Kamen Rider Ryuki as Kamen Rider Dragon Knight (this one was my introduction to Kamen Rider as a child, but my parents watched Kamen Rider Black on Brazilian tv, i watched a few sentai cause Brazil used to dub them but after Power Rangers they kinda stopped

24:37 *Fun Fact:* Dairanger did get into Power Rangers. Mostly them reusing the giant robots, the monsters and the white ranger of that season in Mighty Morphin season 2. The other main Dairanger suits wouldn’t get properly used until years later in Super Megaforce, implied to be a ranger team from another world. Same thing goes with Kakuranger for Mighty Morphin season 3. Although they did use the Kakuranger outfits early on this time as the side side characters the Alien Rangers.

Battle Fever J, Denziman, and Sun Vulcan were created by Toei and Marvel Comics. They adapted the giant robot concept from their previous show, Japanese Spider-Man, which is why Battle Fever J was the first sentai to start the Megazord trend in Super Sentai and Power Rangers. I also heard that Battle Fever J was originally planned to be the Japanese adaptation for Captain America. I'm not so sure about that one though.

This might spoil many's childhood , the suit actor who plays the female is a man . So,to not confuse kids they put skirts . There are some female characters that dosen't where skirts ex: ninja white

@@bookishnerdygirl Sorry for replying 5 months later, but Carranger was a parody series, so they intentionally chose the silliest method they could think of. One of my favorite moments from the beginning of the series is when the mentor brings out their weapons, but unlike most ranger, they don't know how to use them instantly, so the mentor hands them a huge user manual to read. The monsters are confused but politely pause the battle until they are done reading.

From what I’ve seen, Power Rangers usually credits each Sentai series they adapt in the end credits.

@@bookishnerdygirl Yeah, sometimes the credits can get weirdly vague. Like they’d sometimes only credit Toei (the company that makes Super Sentai) or mistype the Sentai season name at times.

Wild Force was 2002. Back in the 90s and 2000s, Saban and Disney would adapt a Sentai series almost immediately after it ended in Japan. Going back to Wild Force, its Sentai counterpart, Gaoranger, premiered in 2001 and ended in 2002.

Power Rangers doesn't actually have their own original season with their own set of suits. They have made new suits on occasion such as the Titanium Ranger from Lightspeed Rescue (GoGoFive) but there is no US exclusive season and nearly all footage is from Super Sentai in terms of fights or when characters are speaking in suits (they do film new footage if necessary). Sometimes the stories can be 1:1 but most of the time they are changed to fit whatever adaption is being done. It's been a while but I think Power Rangers in Space (Mega Ranger) was very close in how the story lined up with Super Sentai's. A lot of the names that were in english in Sentai got shifted around or changed in the US versions as well. Dairanger season we skipped but the Kiba Ranger (White Tiger Ranger) was used in Mighty Morphin.

Interesting power rangers in space was one of my favorite season along with Galaxy.

The thing that Power Rangers innovated from Super Sentai would be the battlelizers for the reds. Even Dekaranger,the Super Sentai equivalent of SPD,used the battlelizers in their future movies and SPD did so well that the original actors for Dekarangers did a dub for SPD in Japan.

A thing that about everyone knows unlike in some Power Rangers, is that each are done in their own universe, exceptions being Gokaiger bridging into a few of the past stories, and yes is separate from Goseiger(Mega Force into Super Mega Force), and then Kyuranger and Dekaranger(SPD) sharing the same universe as Space Sherif Gavan from the Metal Hero series, this was mostly shown in Kyuranger’s time and Go-busters’. With Go-busters(Beast-morphers) having him cameo in a 2-parter, which was also adapted for. All in all Power Rangers uses stock footage from Sentai in collaboration with whoever has the rights, and borrows the costumes, with a few additions that are added, ie Rescue’s Titanium Ranger being only from Rescue. A neat thing that I enjoyed from recent Power Rangers was from Dino Chargers(Kyoryuger adaptation), with mentioning a planet called Sentai-6, an very obvious homage to Sentai although only by name.

I can see how you could be frustrated with the idea that 'we' stole it, but luckily, I'm sure you've been well informed by everyone else on the legal proceedings, so I won't say much there. At least with what you know now, you can appreciate how Sentai was adapted into Power Rangers, be it trying to follow the sentai's source story as close as they can in some instances, or going off and doing their own thing with it; especially when you see how goofy Go-Onger was and how much of a serious season its adaption RPM was. It makes you look at the both franchises as a whole in a different light and makes you appreciate the work done that was to bring it to the rest of the world.

Yess I agree 100 percent!

The second opening had a 5th ranger, big one, the first actual what you call 6th ranger, unfortunately he only showed up to help complete the finisher, and only did a few fights at the end, which sucked, and it was canceled for low ratings and low toy sales from what I heard.

it's not stolen. It was legally obtained in a business deal. Also the first sentai to have teenagers be rangers was Turboranger .also also normally the individual ones are mecha, and the combined one is called a mech. (but in go-busters, where they are called Megazords, in homage to Power Rangers)

Reading through the comments, you probably already know that Super Sentai was licensed to Saban/Disney/Hasbro so the season aesthetics and certain story beats aren't stolen. Credit is due as they put the respective season as "Based on" by Toei It's fine to call them Rangers. The 35th Season, Gokaiger, which is also an anniversary season, even goes out of their way to call the powers derived from the past season's ranger keys. Most of the Mechs have various names, often with the word King (Oh in Japanese) in the name, like Dairen'Oh for Dairanger or Gaoking for Gaoranger. Others will just have Robo in the name. Most of them also have Gattai in the name, which means combination. Kamen Rider and Super Sentai have the same creator, Shotaro Ishinomori. Ishinomori created Kamen Rider first, and actually planned for an entire team of Kamen Rider, which leads to Goranger/Gorenger and aimed more at kids with more color outfits compared to the Kamen Riders. Of course, nowadays, both are aimed to sell toys to kids without skimping on mature subjects that older audiences would enjoy. Either way, Both are really for all-ages audiences. Bringing back to Gokaiger, There was an episode paying homage to Carranger, and for a gag, the Gokaigers changed into Turboranger which obviously is a joke that Carranger was adapted as Power Rangers Turbo. Fiveman having symbols on their heads is because they are sibling teachers. Red is a Science teacher, Blue is a Phys Ed teacher, Black is a language teacher (His symbol is a Japanese kanji for language), Pink is a math teacher (Asterisks used to be used for multiplication before it was made simpler with the x instead) and Yellow is a music teacher. Funny that you mention Lost Galaxy while watching Dairanger, as the morpher used in Dairanger was used for Magna Defender's Morpher. Dairanger was planned to be used but at the time, the Dinosaur suits were popular, and the only thing they could use were the monsters, zords, and the White Ranger since they looked so similar to the Green Rangers. They kept trying to find a way to bring them in until Time Force where the footage was too old. Kakuranger was reused as the Alien rangers.

Yeah, using words like “rip-off” or “steal” to describe the process of Super Sentai to Power Rangers are kinda strong words. As they did get the rights to use the footage for Super Sentai in Power Rangers. If they did steal or ripped them off then there would have been a lawsuit years ago and Power Rangers wouldn’t be a thing these days.

America didn’t steal anything, An American Company and a Japanese company made a deal that america could adapt super sentai. Adapting a series means to take the elements from the super sentai show including the suits, weapons, villains, or story and making it their own. They did try. Do remember the Green ranger from mighty morphin. Well his Sentai equivalent actually dies halfway through Zyuranger. So Saban called Toei studios and asked them to make new footage with the Green ranger that would only be used in Power Rangers. Fans call it Zyu2. And for Season two and three they adapted the zord footage from Dairanger (Thunder Zords) and Kakuranger (Shogun Zords). They even adapted footage of the White ranger from Dairanger.

Power rangers used Japanese footage in some fight scene and super sentai used idea from power rangers like in gobuster they say it's morphin time super sentai start doing battlelizer type powers thinks to power rangers and they got everything from japan and they give the credit in the end credit

I was only angry because I thought they were illegally taking ideas for power rangers from Super Sentai. Now that I know that's not the truth and that everything was legal I'm good lol.

Just call a giant robot a mechs or mecha or robo, any of these 3 works, but a good super sentai season to start with is gokaiger, also it's just you not liking the outfits, because the bioman outfits are great

I will always hold a grudge againt Power Rangers, because in my country, we had some super sentai series like Bioman or Jetman. Often awfully dubbed, but at least we had them. But then Power Rangers took over and no more super sentai. Only rangers.

Yeah everyone has already told me Saban did everything correctly and got the rights. I thought the idea was simply stolen and made for American audiences because of the way some people had such an issue with Power Rangers saying they were bullshit and basically stolen. Next time I'll look into it more xD.

They are also called Rangers in Sentai, so you are not wrong for using it.

technically Saban take it to America by borrowing it from Toei and power ranger is the localization of Super Sentai because it to Violent for American Children, in short, they take everything aside from the plot so what you see mostly is cut scene for super sentai and teenager shouting power ranger, some scene in early day rarely show original fighting scene by Saban/Hasbro, but now a day they do have some original scene but the plot becomes worst than ever. fun fact: super sentai and Kamen Rider is pitch by Stan Lee but mostly rejected by many production houses because it's too Violent and weird. Imagine Marvel already have Cinematic Studio at that time, maybe they already part of Marvel's universe lol, just kidding...

I know it’s been some time and you’ve experienced more Tokusatsu and while I LOVE your reactions to this, Saban bought the rights to use the footage so it’s all a legal proceeding between Toei & Saban. Toei was even commissioned to make more footage of Zyuranger for Mighty Morphin’ since the suits were too iconic to switch after a year.

@@bookishnerdygirl Happy to see your reactions ^^ I wanna ask though, have you thought of reacting to all the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid henshins? If you’ve enjoyed video games, you’ll probably like the references to classic gaming culture.

@@bookishnerdygirl I remember you saying the first form looks like a marshmallow, it’s a reference to Mario and how he’s smaller before you get a mushroom. Can’t just get a shorter actor in so you just round it all out to give the effect.
