More commenting than complaining - we just sound like we're complaining because we're old, tired and grumpy :)

Just for context regarding the design for Donbrothers, and I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the reason Donbrothers look and act the way they do is because they are based on the story of Momotaro, or The Son of a Peach, where Momotaro goes to fight a band of demons along with a dog, a monkey and a pheasant. I really suggest some of ya'll looking into that as it is an interesting bit of Japanese folklore.

On the last point about the dances, they have traditionally been in the ending themes since the 90s but since Zenkaiger didn't have an ending theme they incorporated the dance into the opening.

@@superpowerddt but then the latest series Ousama Sentai King-Ohger (Kings-Queens Squadron King-Ohger) ended that dancing tradition because they intend to make the series serious aka politics, betrayal, wars and rasicms.

Super sentai, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider are the top three tokusatsu (special effects) shows in Japan. Sentai and Kamen Rider are big properties under ownership of Toei. Ultraman own by Tsuburaya. All three have different themes for each season. Sentai usually market toward young kids while Ultraman and Kamen Rider can range between child friendly to teens. Kamen Rider Amazon and Amazons are the most violent version of riders. The only mature tokusatsu show is Garo gear toward adults.

Space Federation fought them 300 years ago but lose the war. Then, they formed rebellion to gather 9 savior who can use Kyutama, a globe that contain power of constellations. This series will be adapted into Power Rangers Cosmic Furry this year. However, Hasbro only use megazord fighting footage only and rangers' suits are original

19:02 TOQGer never adapted into Power Rangers but their villains was used in Ninja Steel and Dino Furry. Their villain design very cool and menacing. The villain looks like Victorian era and Wild West

dino fury villians came from ryosoulger. they just have a similar look. ninja steel villians came from ninninger. none of tqgers villians were ever adapted into power rangers villians. if i'm wrong, then name which villians came from tqger.

Long running tokusatsu series like Super Sentai, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider, essentially reinvent themselves every year to keep things fresh (and to have a consistent flow of new toys lol). But every Sentai series will have a team of multi-colored heroes fighting monsters in big robots, every Rider series will have a character who transforms into a hero to protect human freedom, and every Ultraman series will have a human or alien whom turns into a giant to battle evil monsters and aliens. As long as they keep these basic ideas, writers can do whatever they want with their own seasons.

Super sentai is the BRAND the current team that airs in the year is just the new iteration. While the early days were pretty much just government people in suits by the 80s it would change it up and every season will be compromised of a team either a team of young adults, high schoolers, adults, military/police, a team were their all family or from space comprised of different themes and mythology to their show evidence how my the 90s the vs movie became a standard for the new and old team to team up. Each show is one season and then the cycle starts again. Their still adult fans very evident given how the toei company makes more special editions that older fans would enjoy to buy but kids are the main demo as some will grow up and new kids pop up and stick around for a show that grabs their attention.

"How did they write all these guys into every episode"? Actually Kyuranger had a gimmick where only 5 of them would usually be dispatched per "mission" each episode, typically Red (the hero) Green (the girl) and 3 others randomly picked. They'd also frequently send some of the suit characters away for various plot things for a couple episodes at the time. Basically only the characters played by human actors were the real leads. There were episodes were all 12 of them would get involved but they were special occasions or when the show was wrapping up in the final arc and the problem of the week style plots were over.

I don't really get the sentiment of "weird/non-standard = running out of ideas" isn't the problem with most media these days is that they stick too safely to what can be easily consumed by normal people. Having kids as an audience lets them have the freedom of trying new things. And the shows are fairly mature in subject matter. Just not dark or "adult". Also japan has fairly strict gun laws, You NEED to make them not look like real guns if you wanna sell to kids.

That's actually not totally true. Japan can have very realistic looking toy guns BECAUSE of their strict anti Gun laws, as there's little chance of the police having to worry about people having actual guns they could mistake toy guns for. They were the ones they invented the original G1 Megatron remember and they have a whole market for model guns that look highly realistic. The Sentai weapons not looking realistic is a stylistic choice, a real gunmetal weapon will clash pretty badly with their bright colors of their uniforms obviously.

Compared to pr this isn't a non going connected story mostly because each Sentai has it's own story and episodes that are different from each other and Sentai can get dark with it's story lines I will say the later seasons are more light hearted probably to fit it's demographic even if we compared it to pr I would say that the Sentai version is better then the later pr season (neo Saban era only) but I do enjoy Sentai I wish this vid you watched had subs so you can Understand the show more cuz just taking it on visual alone is very hard to do

The company that owns super sentai are called toei and they do a lot of other things and each project seem to have its own target demographics. The 2 main tokusatsu series the company owns are super sentai targeted at younger audience and kamen rider targeted at teens and sometimes adults with some versions of kamen rider having hard R ratings lol.....and both are designed to sell toys....you know,like how the transformers used to do it.....they also make anime so there's that. Let's just say that your observations are mostly correct and that super sentai are basically kids shows just like the american adaptation power rangers while kamen rider can go anywhere between child safe to straight up gore for a select few titles.

The moment you mentioned Gangnam Style during Donbrothers' opening, I had to quickly remember when it aired and I have to say, you're about a decade late. But the whole dancing thing is usually stuck with Super Sentai endings where it was originally used as a part for kids to exercise early in the morning, but now it's kinda just a trendy dance(Kyuranger had to change theirs almost 1/4 the way through the season due to how the dance looked). The reason why Donbrothers had a dance in it is because Zenkaiger and Donbrothers don't technically have ending segments for the dances, so they put them in the openings instead.

Noting about how fast paced these later openings are is because the video included openings that happened almost near the end of the seasons. I kinda wonder if it would be better for reactors to react to the very first openings instead of suddenly having the final openings instead.

The origin of the purpose for the dance is interesting. People probably got used to it and expected it as well.

Each series is stand-alone, so you don't need previous exposure. Every so often, they return to previous motifs (animals, Dinosaurs, ninja) or themes (environment, youth, imagination), but for the most part, manage to keep things fresh. Plus, they're are some more serious or mature series despite the colorful exterior.

each series is pretty much a stand-alone but happened in the same earth this is confirmed in the pirate series(Gokaiger) where at the first 10 seconds of the opening all of the previous sentai team is going to war for the alien invader and some crossovers movies and episodes of series that have the same motifs/themes like the ninjas or the dinosaurs. The only confirmed exception is the space constellation (Kyuuranger) it's still a stand-alone but happened in different galaxy from the previous 40 series, and the last series (Donbrothers) which is a direct sequel for the second last series (Zenkaiger) Edit: i'm not sure you guys do it mobile like discord live but i suggest to do some pauses so you can have time to digest some of the info

Looking forward to your reactions to Kamen Rider openings! They're a bit more mature than the others, geared more toward teens and older teens and adults. Also people die in these Sentai/Ultraman/Rider shows so...not quite as censored for kids like in the West.

For kyuranger not all of them were zodiac. All you did was say "buy our toys" YES thats the point but they still have a story. Saying that is nota legitimate argument not a critique of a product. Yes, they make toys, get over it. They can still make serious (or comedic) stories and sell toys for all ages. I don't know why there's so much fixation over that when most shows/franchises do this.

@@matthew4076 She did, but her illness was hitting her as the show was filming it's final few episodes which is why they wrote her out. Apparently she died of an unspecified illness she had from childhood that seemed to relapse but came back with a vengeance in her early 20s and she ended up dying of it.

Excuse me? I’m Gen X thank you! We were hardly mad anyway. I grew up with Star Wars, He Man and Transformers, I know all about shows selling toys.

For first-timer of course the cgi didn't looks good. But i think the fans just acknowledged it, as we know this is not a high budget show and it's aired every week so maybe it would be hard to make a perfect looking special effects every week... I think a lot of people watch this just for the story, because even it's a kid show, every seasons have a different and unique story sometimes it makes us questioning "are they really going this far for a kids show?" Hahahaha But i would like to tell you that the newest series, Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger is very interesting. For the first time in the franchise they're filming it using the LED background technology like The Mandalorian did. Still, don't expect too much as it's still not a high budget show, but i think that's so exciting to see a new technology like that implemented in a show... You guys might look into that one...

So to talk about how they become more "childish" near the end, for a series that's consistently making a new season every single year since its creation with 45-50 episodes a season including movie specials for each season, they'd need to make some compromises and make some critical design and aesthetic choices, I mean try making something similar to super sentai, a new story with a new gimmick and design every single year consistently for over 45 years, it's hard. Plus they need to sell toys, back in the day they had realistic cars so doing the same nowadays would get stale, plus the toyetic look is charming and works for the gimmick, they took something good they had, and improved upon it and kept refreshing the same concept each and every year with a new idea selling toys and telling stories.
