For the record, I expect you will be just as lovely ten years from now as you are,right this minute! You strike me as a woman who is just now coming in to your own as a-person and a independent woman.. your apartment is lovely and your decorating is inspiring. You remind me so much of one of my lifetime best friends. Her home is magical with things she has collected over her lifetime, she loves to,collect,plants and rocks, big rocks and even trees. I feel like I’m chatting with an old friend every time I watch one of your videos.

You honestly are probably one of the most “REAL” people I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. I absolutely love your decorating skills and life stories. Thank you! 🌷 And btw- you’ve aged incredibly gracefully. 🌻

My husband of 31 years, the love of my life, passed away nearly 3 years ago (6-5-18). I am filled with the memories of our life together & how much we laughed, loved and lived happily. I never knew such love before! I miss him terribly but I know where he is & that I’ll see him again. I love spending quiet mornings in prayer & gratitude to my Lord. I am content to live with & cherish my memories while I make a few new ones. I’ll be 75 next week. Have a blessed day.

I must say " WOW !!!" on your patio decoration. We don't have thrift stores here in India and house decorative stuff are very expensive ! Still I would like to make a replica in my balcony as your decoration inspired me so so much ! I am a 47 years happily single woman ( my husband of 9 years left me out of no reason ...that time I was devastated but now I realized noone can make me really happy other than myself ) . I am living on my own and decoration makes me so so much happy and contented. Love and hugs from India.

There is a saying...."Don't be sorry it's over, be glad that it happened". When I look at old pictures it makes me smile. I feel the love I have for the ones in the photos but I also feel sad for the loss of the ones that are no longer here. Sometimes I smile through the tears.

@@lilliegill3565 yes Lillie..."Don't cry because he's gone, smile because he lived!" I have changed that to always be thankful for my husband of 38 years whom I lost 2 years ago suddenly. He lived...and what a joy we all had to have loved him.

Oh gosh, visiting the past is wonderful. As long as we don’t live there. I love remembering the beautiful experiences with my husband and parents, my memories are all I have left of them.

life is a series of memories... we don't realize it when we are going through it but only when we look back and view it from a distance. Good, bad, happy, sad, we are our history. And memories make life very sweet as we age. I am 70... look how far we have come. We aren't afraid anymore. So the journey was worth the ride.

When I see old photographs I feel:nostalgic, happiness, sadness, wonder, amazement and...longing for days gone by....wouldn’t it be nice if we could go back for just a moment-and relive it all over again?? Never apologize for having lived! Sometimes we have to look back and see how far we’ve come

Oh Susan the wedding picture of you at just 23 years of age is just so beautiful. You look truly gorgeous but also I just love love love the styling of your hair, dress and make up and even the lovely bunch of flowers you are holding. It would not be out of place for one of today’s weddings even though it was taken in 1978. The photo proves to me that you always had style Susan and you still “got it” for sure. Looking at old photos isn’t living in the past it’s a trip down memory lane and although the older we get it can be quite emotional as we begin to see that people on the photos are no longer with us. I think that having photos that jog our memories give us the chance to think about the past and loved ones we have lost and by doing that we can honour their memories and keep them alive in our hearts. Beautiful inside and out. 20's or 60's. Gorgeous. Pictures old and new tell the story of our lives. My husband used to take pictures of us and everything all the time. I used to say oh I hate pictures of myself. He would say, someday you'll appreciate all of these pictures. I lost him almost 4 years ago. My best friend, the love of my life. Don't listen to people. Just do you my friend. ❤️

I am 73 and I love to look at old pictures. They are memories made and sometimes forgotten. Usually they trigger smiles and Thanksgiving that I have them.

Hi Susan! Those glass vials look like little flower holders to me. You put a little water in them and add some small flowers, like violets. I think those are Ginko leaves on that candleholder. Desi is the finishing touch to any room! What a sweetheart he is. Old pictures usually make me sad. They remind me of an unhappy childhood, the many regrets I have about decisions that I wish I could go back and change. There are some happy times, too, but a lot of sadness, I am afraid. I'm 66, too, and struggling to figure out who I am now that I am no longer working and unexpectedly retired. Other than wanting a love relationship, you seem so satisfied with your life. If that is possible for you, maybe it is for me, too. Thank you for sharing those pictures of your past. I'm glad that you found the closure you needed.

I love to look at old pictures, seeing myself as a young women and Mom. I also love looking at my Mom’s pictures that were left with me when she passed. I agree with another viewer who thought maybe being so isolated this past year has made me more reflective. I think about my marriage(s) and see so much clearer how we shared such love and affection, how precious it was. I took so much for granted in my quest for being my own person, not answering to anyone. Now at 71 I look back and am so grateful for all my crazy adventures and am content with all those memories.

When I look at old pictures, I see a girl that doesn’t know how strong she is. I also see a thinner me, and wonder how I let my body get this way ( working on it) I also see a girl who lost her Mother at 16 and had to grow up, but had such inspiration and such wonderful loving mother that taught me to love God and taught me never to walk with the crowd to go where it is right to do what is right even if you have to walk alone, and I have taken that all my life. So when I look back at all that is happened in my life I see the blessings of God, I see the hand of God. I Just found this quote this past week that means a lot and I want to share it with you. We are made in His image, God says,” they are mine, my name is attached, so handle with care.” This spoke to me more than Weight watchers more than anything and I want to take care of my body, my mind, my spirit. Susan - Wow! I just love to listen to you and watch you. You are such a sweet and gentle person. Some of the things you said in this video just struck a chord with me. I was 53 years old before I began to see my life as being meaningful. All the years before that were so disconnected. I was married at 21 and by the time I was 30, I had 3 children. My first marriage ended in divorce after 13 years. I was married to my second husband for 38 years when he passed away. I always felt that I was completely unprepared for married life and being a mother. I believe that life is a constant growing process and I was not as equipped as I thought I was until later in life. I get sad when I see old pictures. There were moments I was very unhappy and I wish I could live them again to make them better. Life goes by too fast.

I love old pictures. Susan, never stop loving old pictures.

We live with what we love, no matter the date. I am 88 years old and given some of my loved pieces to my grandson who. loves my style. It is a bittersweet feeling. I love the way you talk and think. Inspiring me! Thank you😊

I feel my past carries me through. I don't always think about yesterday but sometimes it's like a movie reel. The days past pop up without warning. Sometimes they bring a smile and I want to keep thinking about them, and some I blink to make them go away.

Susan. I get the feeling that despite the past, you are not living there, but simply remembering and being reflective. Are you living your best life with Desi? I certainly hope so. You deserve the best. Love ya. (and the Desi fella).

I think old pictures are awesome and nostalgic. They are the documented barometer of our character arch in this life. You’re not living in the past by showing us old pictures or reflecting back on memories, you’re honoring your past. There’s a difference. People are so intent on telling us to stop living in the past, and keep moving forward, that they almost forget to be still and reflect inward to know oneself. Pictures are still and so are stories as they require one to listen. It’s also a time of self reflection as memories often do that to us. The past molded you into the person you are today and that’s celebratory. Thank you for your videos they are so uplifting. And I love seeing your pictures and hearing your stories ❤️ and Desi is adorable.

We don’t live in the past, we live in the present. But our present is composed of all the things that made up our life, good or not so good, things we learn from. Old photos show who I was and how far I have come, who I have lost, who I have loved. And I am glad I have them.

Ah, the seventies. A time of happiness, freedom, companionship, laughter and disco! It was also a time of days of uncertainty, some fear, life problems and stress. But I tell you, nothing gets me going better then putting on some seventies music and looking at some old pictures of those times. I was so young, with waist length red hair and mini skirts. I actually got whistled at once by Tom Hanks who went to my high school. Little did I know where he would end up. :)

I am 60 and wasn't raised to be independent. My Mom was and still is afraid of everything. I now really admire women who are not afraid to stand on their own. It takes courage to be ok with who you are on your own.

I am very afraid too at age 57 and now single after 40 years of marriage....to someone who has hurt me more than anything! Life is definitely a journey! So being afraid is real and causes anxiety! It all comes from not being properly educated and not feeling safe from a very early age...divorces all around me! Now I just want peace and to live quiety on my own...canceled the TV and wifi...the world is a mess! I just watch KZread on my phone! I can now control what comes into my life and video like this are positive filled hope, kindness and beauty!🌺🙏😘

@@kimkeck6266 I hear you. Did away with cable 3-4 years ago but kept wifi. I stream what I want when I want. By the time I got out of my 20 year marriage I didn’t have confidence enough to go through a drive through bank and use those tubes. Pitiful. But you know what the Lord helped me do? Move to Florida and go through Bible college with little funds. He made the path very clear and provided. I became a medical Chaplain and bereavement specialist. My story became my testimony.

I love looking at my old pictures of the past but I can’t stop crying when I do. My Grandson is graduating from high school and I came across my graduation pictures from 1969 and the tears started flowing wishing I was young again. I’ll be 70 later this year and I admit I’m not dealing very well with it.

Excellent video Susan. You give me calm and hope for what is next for me. In my sixtieth year with a divorce pending. Excited to be me, scared yes, but excited to be learning to be me in every way. Thank you for sharing YOU in so many ways for all of us who need it.

Looking at pictures of the past bring back memories of good times and some bad memories. It also makes me the person I am today. I became stronger and able to stand on my own two feet and not rely on my husband.

I think it important to remember how far you’ve come and get ready to see how far you’ll go❤️

If you take joy from the pictures you should pick a few and enlarge them and frame them so you can see them every day.

I love looking at old photos of my life,and I have them framed throughout my house. I remember when cell phone cameras first came out, and my family & friends made fun of me because I resisted it. A photo on a phone is not a photo. I want to hold it in my hand. The older it gets, the more precious it is. It’s sentimental in a way that digital could never be. I know you think that you opted for a conventional life, but there’s nothing conventional about you Susan. You’ve reinvented yourself. It’s what all strong and smart women do.

I was married in '78 too. I had a lot of growing up to do as well. Someday I hope to tell you how much Eddie meant to me. He was the voice in a lonely teen's night that introduced me to such amazing music that became the way I could cope. I love your home decor. All the best to you and Desi. -Sue GR MI

I have very few pictures of my younger self and it makes me sometimes wonder if I ever was there - only in my memories and nothing tangible. Old pictures somehow give us substance. I love the few old pictures I have because as you said, it reminds me of what I was and how I have become what I am today. I really enjoy your videos.

I feel grateful when I see old phots of myself. I’ve had a wonderful life and love who I am now.

When I see old pictures of myself, I am rather shocked at how lovely I was and how much I had the world by the tail. There is a little sorrow that I didn’t recognize how blessed I was and I think I should have relished my life more. You can’t go back and do it over. At 66 I more think of life wrapping up than I probably should. I am trying to move along with new goals for myself that I expect will bring some happiness. I don’t live in the past but I do think much of my life was really awesome. With a heavy sprinkling of tragedy and loss too however. It is good to have many of those times in the rear view mirror.

Your bedroom looks beautiful, you have such good taste. What a lovely job you have made of your balcony, a lovely place to sit any time of day.

I look back and realize I had such a charmed life, but I was too busy, thinking about the future, to realize it.

Just watched this post for a second time, your decorating is so beautiful. I, too, got married in 1977 at age 23. It lasted 4 years. However, years later I met someone and got married again and it was a beautiful relationship for 22 years. (Then he died.) I kept some of his T-shirts to sleep in. My friends think I’m living in the past, but his shirts give me comfort, just like a child with its teddy bear. You can smile politely when your friends give you advice; but you know what’s best for you. I look forward to your “visits” every week and replay the past ones in between. Wishing you and Desi a happy and healthy 2022, you deserve the best!

Susan, I am glad you brought up what old photos mean to many people. All of my photos are my history. Some are hard to view and others make me happy. But, it is all Cathy's history and I own it. Now that I look back on it, I absolutely know that God had a plan for my life. It was not what I thought it would be. Actually, it was much better. But, as they say.... God did not promise me a rose garden. I had thorns for much of my life. But, it is my history and you cannot re-write it. Oh, Desi, is a darling doggie. I cannot tell you how much he makes me smile. I so enjoy your videos, Susan.

I feel that you and I could be real friends not just over youtube but in face-to-face life...everything you feel and talk about mirror my thoughts and feelings....My Grandfather, on my Mom's side, was a photographer and he even had his own dark room at their farm house in upstate New York. When he passed, my Grandmother wisely kept all his slides and now I have them. I could not wait to get my hands on them and when you speak about photographs and such from the past, I am very moved as it is how I feel...Looking at G'pa's slides, my own pictures from childhood till now, I know how I have become who I am and it is a joy to me.

When you talked about being 23 and about to be married you perfectly summed up where I was when I was about to walk down the isle at 21 years old in 1988..... I was not ready to 'belong' to someone....I wanted to be free and explore! I was doing when was expected of me by family and society....afraid to be my own woman and be on my own! Thank you for putting it into words so eloquently! Love!

How beautiful Susan loved this video the way you decorated your room and the glass cone things looks great there. The balcony is stunning, just watch that wind you don't want to knock any one out walking down there. Maybe secure them down?.. You are so right. All the parts of you that got you to here right now were all pieces of you. Other versions of you that you evolved and grew from to become the Susan we know now! Cant change the past, could pretend it did not happen and forget it. Then you deny parts of you. Embrace all that you are. That's how you truly heal. We come here to evolve grow and learn from mistakes. They or we didn't know any better then. We must remember what was good. What not to ever do again the lessons. You just opened a door for a healthy way of grieving for my loss marriage. Instead of denying the reality of it and importance of him in my life, I will celebrate that chapter of my life. I love old pictures, especially the black and white ones and I love old frames to put them in. I scatter them all over the house. I think the hanging bud vases could also serve to root clippings in by hanging them in a window. You have once again inspired me to get busy and change things up a bit.

Everything looks beautiful Susan. I think those are little bud vases. They're really pretty. I have a lot of painted glass too. Love it! Remembering and cherishing the past doesn't mean you're living in it but it's a big part of making who you are today. I love looking at old pictures, remembering people, my relationship with them and visiting with those who have passed on. It makes me happy to revisit some of those memories. That certainly doesn't mean you live in the past.

I also got married in 1978 at the age of 23. I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if I had waited to get married and lived on my own first. I think things worked out the way they were supposed to and I have 2 wonderful daughters and a husband who still loves me like when we were 23. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us. Your porch looks so welcoming and homey. plus the deer is the icing on the cake.

I was almost the same! I got married in 1974 at age 18, and still married 47yrs later with two grown daughters! I also wonder what I would have became if I had not married and had a career or traveled the world!! but it would never have made up for the love I have for my girls.

Guess I will join in here. I married in 1977 at age 19. We are still married as well and have 4 grown daughters. However, when I look back now, I realize that I didn't know I could be in control of my own life. I thought life happened to you and you had to just deal with it. Wish I knew then what I know now. I would still have married my husband, but I would have gone to college and lived on my own for a while first and then married when I was a little older and wiser.

I was committed to my marriage but it eventually made me feel empty. I will always love one man that I couldn’t ever be with.... I do live to some degree happy but still that empty spot no one can fill to help me feel complete in my life 💔 I love your content theres always that feeling of nostalgia when i watch your stories ... its sad but beautiful and uplifting at the same time 🦋

Hi Susan, Love your sense of style, your bedroom & balcony are lovely, just like you. I find it’s wonderful to look at my old photos, they are such a treasure. I married at 20 back in 1963 & am so grateful that we did since my husband passed 25 years ago at the age of 54. We had 33 years to build memories together & had three great kids & I have six grandchildren. Feeling fortunate & blessed for my life.❤️ Loved this video & looking forward to many more. Last year, my best friend visited from Florida, and she and her mother had me over for a fabulous afternoon. I have known both women for almost 50 years. We sat and ate, talked, and looked at pictures. Many of these pictures were of her mother in various stages of her life. We had a blast. My friend lost her mom to cancer a week and a half ago, and the one thing that saddened us both was that my friend has not one of those pictures we looked at for so many hours. They were apparently thrown away by a stranger who cleaned out her mother's apartment. How absolutely devastating! Pictures tie you to your past and remind us of happy and not so happy times. They are memories captured for a lifetime. My heart breaks for my friend, and now when I visit her, I can't ask to see pictures of her mom. Heartbreaking.

I look at old pictures of my friends, family, husband when I feel sad, neglect, misunderstood or just want to see some old memories and then I remember why, I actually do love them so much 😊❤️

Every time I watch your channel I see alot of me. I’m living in my childhood home that we moved into in 1970 or 1971. I’ve been married four times but always wanted to be married but free. After my last divorce my son moved out to live his life. I was so upset for alittle while. But now I’ve finally grown up and answer to me. Nobody else. I’ve made changes in my home but for the most part if my mom came back today, it would be basically like she left it. I have pictures sitting around that belonged to her. I sit and listen to music and think of the past. Not all the time But, yes the majority of the time. People tell me all the time to stop living in the past. Maybe I should. But, all my family was living and my son grew up in this house like I did. It’s my sanctuary.

Love all of the new things you got, just so creative & beautiful. I just recently went through some old pics from the 70's myself. I don't live in the past, but I get so much joy seeing how my children friends and myself have grown. I believe for me looking through my life encourages me to keep on keepin on. Somehow things always work out. I was not raised to be independent, it was get married and start a family. I did just that.....loved every minute but pregnant and married at 18 is hard. I wish I knew more and waited a bit longer before having my beautiful children. After 2 divorces I am living alone for the first time in my life. I just love how you decorated the balcony, it looks so romantic and inviting. And I love your decorating style. Your apartment is so beautiful and unique and a feast for the eyes. As we get older I think we do tend to reflect on our past, I am guessing it’s a natural part of journey through life. From where I stand, you've led an incredible life. I wish I had been brave enough to go to New York or Europe when I was stuck, in my twenties or thirties. I think those painted glass hanging jars are flower pockets for real cut flowers. You are and were so beautiful in your youth. Old photos of me put my life in perspective. We are here to make mistakes and then be brave enough to clearly see what we didn't do or know. To become humble and ask for help to be present and able to make better decisions. Relishing the past is not living in the past. I've only just discovered your channel and am so grateful. We are the same age and share many things in common and I am learning so much from you. I just adore you. Thank you for helping me tap in to the courage to love myself again. And I adore old pictures but have been selective as I've aged and no longer hold on to everything but still plenty to relish the life I've traveled to now.

I think the decorations on your new green candelabra are ginkgo leaves. Also, the word "Bain" means bath in French, so the mirror might be a great accessory in one of your bathrooms. I love the three-sectioned mesh container, and think your clear glass jars with dried flowers are perfect in them. Your bedroom is lovely and your balcony is a wonderful retreat. You always look so pretty and have the most perfect lipstick every time!

Your authenticity and genuine spirit shines so brightly. You have such positive spark. Your friends and family and anyone that you might date is blessed to be in your presence.

I love old pictures.. I am 64 years old. I think you reach a point where you realize most of your life is behind you and many people you meet in the later years don't know anything about your story.. They assume ... and then they say goofy things about you living in the past because you reflect upon the things that have shaped you and created a far more complex tapestry of a human being than you can share to someone who would say such a thing as.. Why do you live in the past...? Personally , I think such a comment is quite condescending and would come from a superficial person. Your apartment is wonderful... I just adore what you have done with your patio..It's enchanting.. as are you. Many blessings.

The candleholder you have refashioned looks like ginko tree leaves. Very pretty! I believe part of the ginko tree is used as a remedy to improve memory. How fitting for the topic of old photos and memories from long ago! ❤️❤️❤️
