Hey Gleen: I play with a Christian rock band, my brother is the bass player. One day something motivated him to practice his instrument to a point that the rest of the band and I started noticing his improvements; he knew the songs, he´s more accurate, more technically prominent, better sound,,,hell he even started attending on time. Not long ago I discovered that he also is a follower of your channel, and while talking whit him about it he´d be like: "yeah man... I realized I had two options: be a mediocre bass player for the rest of my life or start working on developing some serious skills". I am happy to say that not only him, but the hole band adopted this way of thinking and it is musically improving. Needless to say your videos were the small push he needed to understand the relevance of all of the small details you talk about that makes someone a professional musician. Your words (Glenn) may not be soft to the ears of many, but are clearly sending the right message, it´s up to the rest of the world to catch it. Purpose of drum solo: To give the musicians a break. Purpose of bass solo: To give the drummer a break and talk to his parole officer without actually missing any music.

Just recently stopped cupping the mic. Frequencies sit great in the mix and everybody can hear me extremely well live. Can completely attribute this to you beating me over the head with not cupping the mic. Thank You!

It becomes a habit, doesn't it? Get a few shitty live gigs where your vocals, despite being loud enough, barely cut through the mix - you cup the mic like everyone else in your position does. And before you know it, you're still doing that even when playing/singing in places where it's really, really not necessary.

To be fair, on the screencap at 3:00 ish, the client was completely fair about not having enough money, they didn't argue about the price, they weren't obnoxious at all. I don't think you should be bashing them.

Personally, I don't cup the mic, as it doesn't suit my singing stile. But I think cupping the mic can bring some interesting thin "overdriven" vocal tones. Worked out pretty well with deftones, for example.

I use a pop-filter. Love it. I make it a requirement when anyone uses my mic. I just tell them about my last bout of pneumonia, and they tend to back off...

What's wrong with the message that's around the 3 minute mark? Yeah, it sucks that the engineer lost the business. But the band isn't saying that his time isn't worth the money. They are saying that they can't afford it right now, so they're going to reluctantly go for an inferior product because that's all they can afford right now and compromises can be made. If I were that engineer I'd be disappointed, but I wouldn't think the band were a bunch of assholes, at least not without further context.

I was thinking this too. The band simply stated in the nicest way possible that they were too broke to afford the record. I feel more bad for the band than the engineer. Why should the band have to spend more money than they have to because they "need to be concerned about him being able to eat"? Do musicians not need to eat too?

OK, to be fair...the one at 2:05 doesn't seem that stupid to me - they had no idea how much it cost, they found out and it's more than they can afford; they weren't even assholes for it, they're just living within their means and not trying to get anything on the cheap or trying to screw the engineer out of money (or, worse, getting them to do the work and then not paying or whining after the fact).
