I know this might be a bit late but if the babies are stressed out from too much space, how do they live in the wild?

  • @alexonsurez345

They have plenty of places to hide. If you give them a lot of hides, a big space isn’t a problem

I think that the thought behind the enclosure being too big for a baby is: if you give it a huge enclosure with nothing in it the gecko it's gonna be stressed and more than likely it's going to not eat properly, but if you give it a huge enclosure full of stuff the gecko is gonna be fine but you're gonna lose it inside and you won't be able to regularly check if it's growing properly and if it has any health problem. We're trying to keep every single baby alive because we care about our pets, but we need to remember that in the wild the majority of a clutch is going to die before it reaches adulthood.

@@blcktlp9715 that's the truth. Animals aren't stressed from space in the wild. The more space the better. Just no empty space. The only issue is unlike the wild most terrarium lack abundant insect populations , so if your animal gets lost in the enclosure or it's very small it may struggle to find the few minute number of insects fed to it

As he points out- big with lots of places to hide is great for babies….but it won’t let the human interact with it much. Cages are for pets….humans want to interact with pets….that is not a concern in the wild.

My biggest rule of thumb is giving them hella space to explore with multiple textures and temps to allow them control over what space they need, it’s helped sm with attitude, sassy geckos, and eating habits. They’re completely bio active without plants but fakes bc they attack or destroy real plants ;-; but I added beetles for mealworms 24/7 they hunt besides being hand fed in case they fail, and organisms to eat dead beetles and poo it’s worked nicely for a cheap but sustainable solution. You manage the beetle populations ofc if it gets too wild, I have a bearded dragon to sacrifice them to lol invent solutions because there is always another option. Hope the tips help love the vid

Thank you for all of the great information. Still trying to get our 9 month old crested gecko used to his new home. He's eating (but not much). He's also jumping around like crazy and seems to be trying to escape every time we open the cage. He seems like enjoy being handled but doesn't ever want to go back in. Any thoughts or suggestions?

This will be my second year breeding crested geckos and whenever I don't know something about them I will ask someone or if they just have a question for the animal they already own and I'm not 100% sure I give them names of breeders that know more than me. Doing this I've made a lot of good friends with other breeders so I try to tell people about them as well.

Im only a keeper with no intention of breeding however im scoured through google, discord, forums in search of a thorough list of things to check for in crested geckos could you please make a video on this for keepers not just breeders.

You might not know the answer for this, but in regards to smaller enclosures for lil ones, does that translate to tree frogs as well? I have a juvenile and it’s housed in a 30 gal but I have had concerns about whether or not it can find its food or not..

My Cresent Gekko i got today is not a baby hes more of a juvenile probably close to an adult but not quite there. I have a 18x18x24 tank. Do i need to go get a smaller enclosure? My budget is tight after buying the gekko, tank, all the stuff to go inside. So just curious.

I’ve tried taking the head off the roaches to see if that gets his attention but but nothing works I’ve tried him on crickets as well idk what to do any idea on what I should do?

If they’re old enough to know the gender, unless you want to breed or possibly have the male become aggressive towards the female (and make her lose her tail) - separate them. Even if you want to breed, the female needs to finish maturing before the male forces breeding on her

Waste of food and, not quite the same as too big an enclosure for a baby but I tend to make new little things for their enclosures so they end up not knowing what will be there next. I had to stop that. The cresties looked like they were waiting for the next addition to their enclosure so they could go buy mini-gecko-uzis to pop me off.

Hello, I’m planning to get a crested gecko so I am learning as much as possible first. I am having trouble finding a decently priced, perfectly sized terrarium for a crested gecko and was wondering if you could recommend one? Money really is not my biggest concern and the zen habitat seems like a very good choice, I am just not sure if it’s worth it. Thank you for your time.

I completely disagree, unused "crested gecko" diet can be reused. It makes great food for roaches, super worms, and Isopods. Well, that's really no disagreeing, it's just finding a way to dispose of it. I disagree "Crested Gecko diet" is a stupid name, my Crested geckos barely eat it, but my Gargoyle geckos eat it up right away. That's not disagreeing either, since you didn't name it and Pangea renamed it to just "Gecko Diet". I don't have an argument this time, but next time you wait. Seriously though your videos are dramatically improving and I can't put my finger on why they are better, but they really are.

Yes. Really, for most crested geckos a large home is fine IF you have lots of cover for them. Hides on the ground and at various heights, branches leaves and vines, lots and lots of draping leafy coverage...yep it's not fun to clean, but this is about them, not us.

  • @xxSimplyStellaxx

hey! crested geckos don’t necessarily need either? light is more for display, but if you chose to use one make sure it doesn’t emit too much heat!! they are nocturnal, so if you are going to use one make sure to only turn it on when they are awake and let them rest. heating lamps depend on where you live, if it is colder then maybe you need one but if it’s warmer try to stay away from it. crested geckos need to stay in about high 60s - higher 70s to be happy and healthy :) hope it helps!!
