I am the largest New Caledonia gecko breeder in the Philippines where nearly EVERY SINGLE DAY the high temps are at least 87- 100 F. We have regular power outages. I do use air conditioning in my NC geckos gecko room, but with the frequent outages I can say that I haven't lost a single adult when the room hit 90. Rarely will a baby (a freshly hatched baby is far more likely succumb to the temp if the cage/ bin isn't damp) I use 2 liter frozen bottles of water to put next to my hatchling cages ( and egg boxes) to help drop the temp in their vicinity. One thing most don't know or discuss is how temp influences genders. For a long time people said temp was not a factor in genders. I can unequivocally say incubate with temps over 23 C and you will be looking at 75% hatching and growing up to be males. 21 and below you get females. They incubate longer, but I have seen absolutely no proof that they are bigger hatchlings nor have bigger crests than full siblings incubated at higher temps. I photograph every hatchling the day it hatches and weigh them and these photos and weights show zero correlation to hatch weights or final crest sizes. Also Filipinos would have a hoot at the way you say Tokay. Here they are called "toko" pronounced as toug Coug ( a soft O in both syllables, not a hard O like in Toe) also being so near the equator I can EASILY manipulate their breeding season by using timers in my room lights. People here that don't know this might get 1 breeding season and if they don't control a lighting schedule will have difficulty in getting any eggs after that 1st year.
I would love to see you turn this into a series!! That would be awesome, I would totally watch.🦎
Hey thank you for this channel found you because I got a new tokay gecko and you have help me learn more about them and made me fall in love with them so much that I’m getting 3 more so thank you man keep up the great work
What about using a drip bottle like for rodents with a gecko convicted of water bowl pooping?
Hey Dakota how often you feed your crested geckos , there is a lot of information out there , but is different , I pile like to hear it from a breeder , thank you

I have 10 cresties at the moment 9 have tails and the 10th I purchased as a frog butt years ago. I have never (knock on wood) had a crestie drop a tail!
as long as the tubs are big enough and ventilated well, no issues.

most tubs aren't big enough.
Took my male out of a 30 gallon tank and put him in a 24 q tub and he thrived so much better
I have my tokays in tubs because it’s so easy to modify and the way they hold moister and I can not afford the pvc enclosures right now

As long as you can get the heat right the set up I don't see a problem. I did a season in tubs with mine before moving them all to glass.

@@Dakotahblueexotics the heat hasn’t been a problem at all I glue foam on the long sides to help with insulation have holes on the short sides doesn’t look pretty on the outside but the inside is bioactive with loads of climbs and bark tunnels from a maple tree

Same though 😂 especially baby chewies. Constantly have to switch their papers
Great vid, you made me belly laugh with the flinging joke, haha. And you make a really good point - you're putting your gecko in a box. Whether it's made of glass or plastic, it doesn't matter, lol just as long as you can set it up to maintain proper temps/humidity the material of the box is otherwise just personal preference. Thanks for the entertaining and informative vid!
We use an AC unit if it gets too hot in the Jungle Room
Thank you 👍

You can get a cheap little soldering iron too instead of drilling. Faster, and no jagged edges. Another great video!!!

Also true! I'm just a cheap ass and have a drill 😂

I personally prefer drilling - soldering plastic is burning plastic. Which releases VOCs into the air and can be dangerous for the one doing it, and anyone else in the area if in an enclosed space. It's also just not great for the environment as a whole. We got a drill tip for $18 bucks that is made for making smooth holes in plastic and it works *perfectly*! Really happy with that as an option and drilling is perfectly okay! 😊

@@HeartsScales oooh.... if i could find a drill bit that made smooth holes, I'd be stoked!
All my cresties are in bins
I have to ask if you keep you geckos in how do you or what do you keep the room temp at to give them a warm spot of about 80?
Raised one of our cresties and our leachie in a tub to help them thrive, then when they were bigger moved them to big tanks. Tubs are excellent to monitor the health of your new baby animal.
Do you know anywhere I can get a hatchling tokay gecko?
I'd love to see gargoyle gecko myths! :)
The vacuum myth may be, in part, from Clint's Reptiles, from his video about gecko tail loss. He mentions getting freaked out by the vacuum as one possible reason they may drop them.
how am i so early???? also great myth busting

The tail this isnt really a "myth" if it's true depending on the individual animal.
