When I felt down (won’t say depressed because I don’t know if that’s what I’d call it) my mom wouldn’t listen when I tried to tell her I felt like I wanted to hurt myself so I felt comfort in talking to people online. Thanks for spreading the leachie love but I wanted to touch on a few things... Leachianus primarily eat smaller animals in the wild. They are top predators in their environment. Smaller lizards are the most frequently consumed meal. Most of the fruit they eat is overripe and primarily eaten in the off-season when they don't hunt as much. They need higher protein than cresties. If you're only feeding powdered diet you should include the insect formula once a week. I feed mine live feeders like superworms and crickets weekly. Humidity should never fall below 65%. The "ideal" humidity is 80-90%, you can even hear Steve Cemelli of leapin leachies cite this himself in Brian's video. New Caledonia doesn't "dry out", it's a humid climate. You don't want the cage soaking wet as they will get fungal infections, this can be avoided by not spraying the cork directly. I feel like a lot of people see these animals as large crested gecko and they aren't. Their cage aggression is normal and something to anticipate when buying one. My male is a foot long and packed a bite hard enough to give me nerve damage in my thumb. They are powerful and intelligent animals and deserve the best treatment they can get, which means not treating them like little cresties. (sources: Life Of Giant Geckos book)

Just to add on to her fantastic points these geckos are also largely active and an 18x24 is not nearly enough space! 18x36 or even 24x18x24 would be a much better size. I also worry about the suction cup ledge posing a safety risk as suction cups over time lose their gripping ability. Leachies are heavy and a magnetic ledge is a lot better option and guaranteed to not collapse. We both appreciate spreading the love about these amazing geckos but worry about potential misinformation and the increase of younger viewers obtaining them and going off of following potentially harmfull habits! Really do hope you can make a few changes. Your snake care is highly regarded so hopefully you can put the same into the geckos!

That is 100% correct , I lived in New Caledonia for a long time and had Leachies in the trees behind my backyard and actually kept an injured one and nursed it back to health after its tree was destroyed by a cyclone. Got bitten when getting it away from the neighbors dog and still have the scar to this day , if you think Tokay's are bad for the bite Leachies are worse but less aggressive. Their favorite meal in the wild is actually other geckos including "relatives" I remember feeding mine house geckos , they do eat over ripe fruit and back then (15+ years ago) fruit based baby food was used as food as well as over ripe bananas , in the wild they are often found in large mango trees and eat the over ripe mangoes.

I just want one 😍😍😍 Here in Australia there is strict laws on what you can keep, and there is licences surrounding keeping reptiles and amphibians and even some birds. This helps control where pets come from, helps track exotics, and pretty much aims to keep things safe. I feel that as much as it sucks we cant get a beauty like this, its keeping our natural fauna and flora safe which is the most important thing. There has been instances where exotics have been stolen, and found again, making it really easy to pin point perps haha.

This is probably the most helpful Leachie video I’ve watched. Thank you. I couldn’t get my Bayonnaise Leachie to eat at first, then she licked her dish clean when I stuck it in her cork round. Another person in a Leachie group told me that their Bayonnaise did the same. My Nuu Ami eats off the ledge just fine, so maybe it’s a locale thing, lol.

B1gHagar because of their diet, the poop doesn’t smell :) it’s very similar to small bird poop in my opinion. Much easier to clean than a snakes poop! Very easy to just wipe up

Matthew Hansen well, I don’t own any leachies, but I do own two gargoyle geckos and they don’t smell at all. But snake poop smells 😂 at least to me anyways. Maybe the leachies have a stronger scent, but they are in the same family and have the same diet :) so I wouldn’t think so! I also regularly clean my tank, so it also keeps it from smelling. Every few days I will spot clean and wipe the glass. Once a week I disinfect all of their plants and backgrounds

There's a trick to them pooping on the front of their enclosure; turn it backwards at the start! Have the side you intend to view from (likely the one with the door) face away from you for the first few months so they get into a habit of pooping on the back side. Then flip the cage around so it's oriented the way you prefer. The gecko will continue to poop on the other side because that is what it is used to. I've never owned a gecko or any reptiles for that matter, but I've watched a bunch of KZread videos so I am an expert, trust me, this works.
