How To Care For A CRESTED GECKO!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Crested geckos are a very popular pet gecko, and for a very great reason! Crested geckos are adorable, and their care is friendly for beginner reptile keepers. But crested geckos aren’t just for beginners, I believe beginners and advanced keepers will both enjoy crested geckos. In this video, I’ll be telling you all how I take care of my pet crested geckos! Keep in mind that there are many different ways to care for crested geckos, and this is just my way. All information in this video is based off of my own personal experience with crested geckos.
Disclaimer: while I’ve owned crested geckos for multiple years, and worked with them professionally I am no expert on crested geckos. When getting any pet, it’s a good idea to do research from multiple sources to make sure you get plenty of information! Everything in this video is based off my personal experience and opinions.

Hey I don’t know if you’ve already tried this or have a crestie now but if you haven’t which you probably have maybe try showing articles about them pictures of them or like videos on them that could debunk the misinfo they have about them. That’s how my dad was convinced.

Another tip when it comes to lighting: regardless if you use UVB or not, a light cycle is really important for them to know when they should be sleeping, or when they should be awake. I recommend putting your lighting on a timer (smart timers are the best because you can have it turn on and off at sunset/sunrise). If it’s on a timer it will really help tell the gecko when it’s day and night, which is important biologically for a multitude of reasons!

Definately going to subscribe! Super helpful video and channel. I currently have three crested geckos. An adult confirmed female called Lewie (Harlequin). A 9 month confirmed male called Dug (Flame) and a hatching we named Cherri (Bicolour). I've kept cresties for nearly 4 years now and I personally have learned as I've gone along. I did research before getting Lewie but I've learnt more and more as time went on. Even videos like this give me small ideas of how to change up tanks and stuff. Very helpful!

Oh my goodness. I love your videos so much. lol I got my crestie, Pumpkin, a little over a month ago and i'm struggling to get her to eat from her food dish. I have to basically feed her myself. I got her Repashi and she loves it, but she will only lick it from the skewer when I put it in front of her face and she doesn't go to her dish...at all. I have branches and everything leading her towards her dish and that makes no difference. But it sucks because I don't want to "Spoil" her and make it even more difficult for her in the future. I have tried to make it noticeable to see if she would eat at night, but I can't really tell. I just know for a fact that throughout the day, she doesn't touch her food dish.

No, don’t put anything between the heat mat. It’s meant to go directly on the glass. But it’s not really useful for crested geckos, heat pads won’t warm up the air at all which is what a crested gecko would need.

@@joselyn.bentley5377 I would recommend getting a thermostat to hook up to your ceramic heat bulb. That way you can regulate how hot it gets and also use the probe to read the temp that the bulb is emitting

I mist once a day and that’s usually enough to do it. I live in a humid area, and use all live plants though. Live plants help retain humidity, you can also mist twice a day if needed!

Don’t offer insects until they’ve eaten their diet. If you continue to allow them to just eat insects, they won’t want to eat the gecko diet. Try different flavours and brands as well, some geckos like certain flavours better

She’s not lonely, you’re anthropomorphizing her. Crested geckos are solitary animals and don’t benefit from cohabitation. In fact, it’s often stressful for them and they will likely compete for resources. They may even fight.
