I was so worried about tail-dropping until I realized that every crestie with a more active tail was wrapping it around me or something on me a lot harder than I would ever touch their tail. It's impressive the strength they have with it - I had to give up a necklace one night because my lady was holding it so tightly that I wasn't getting it back right then. I am just watching your vids waiting on a delivery from you, I am super anxious and you're calming. That being said I wonder how the two will be with their tails, and the third doesn't have his so nothing to wonder about there. Except his cute feet. Their feet are the cutest thing in the world.

I have two with two who dropped. I think there are some who drop at the first fright & others that don't. It's different personalities & responses. My now big boy dropped on his own in the middle of the night, but he's my most laid back, so no idea what made him do it. My first girl is a bit goofy and dropped after a big jump as a baby. But my craziest one, jumps at everything, is my most active, he's had his tail for three years going strong! So you just never can tell. I'm hoping my little baby keeps it, but it's a roll of the dice.

I always candle hers, always infertile...this last time she laid I candled the first, nothing as per usual, but I continued on and candled the next...and I saw the red cheerio of life! I couldn't believe my eyes. I had my spouse come check to make sure I wasn't seeing things. The egg just passed the 60 day mark in incubation. I am hoping any day now I'll check like I do every morning and I'll see something making it's way out of it. The egg has stayed perfectly shaped and white, no rot or mold. If this crestie baby hatches, it will be a very special creature to me and will stay with my family and me forever.

I used to work at petsmart where one of the managers told newer employees that crested geckos are group animals and to tell customers to buy more than one. Why?.... to sell more geckos. I was pissed. I do know that geckos don't typically get lonely, but I do have one exception. My female crested gecko, Nanners. She was a rescue I received from a coworker. She was totally blind with ulcerations in both eyes, unsure if she'd ever regain sight. After about 8 months she had most of her vision (Several years later I think she still doesn't have perfect vision, but it's pretty good). My existing male gecko, Troll, took to her very quickly (after she had quarantined and healed enough to be co-habitated) and became her eyes. She would follow him around closely and he really looked after her! An incredibly rare behavior for animals like this. A friend petsat for me and unwittingly set my geckos free. Nanners was found, Troll was not. We think he got outside (in Central valley California- OBSCENELY DRY). Nanners had her sight back by this time, but she became very reclusive and hand shy after this incident without her buddy, troll. Exactly as she was before she was housed with him. She's starting to come out a bit more now almost 3 years later, but still is more reclusive and less confident than she was with her buddy. I've been debating getting her a friend because I think she truly is lonely. But I don't know if just any friend will do. I wish we could've found him. He was an olive double orange tiger with cream pinstripes and an orange throat.

I'm not trying to be an A-hole but this video was great and does tell a lot to know about Cresties but the truth is they will drink standing water although doesn't mean you still can't mist them. When their still hatchlings it is harder for them to locate the water dish and they sleep during the day in the leaves so if you mist/spray the enclosure the gecko can get the water a lot easier when it's on the leaf right in front of them where they are sleeping. And I can back this as I pay very close attention to all my geckos.

  • @AltitudeExotics

Of course it doesn't mean you can't still mist them, it's just not necessary like many believe. Young geckos have no trouble finding water dishes, this is not difficult or taxing for them I assure you. But of course they will also drink from being sprayed as well.

I had a quick question cause this just happened and i went into panic but i had my baby cresi out of his enclosure for a little bit and he fell off my knee (yes i was sitting on the floor) and he fell on his back, curled up, and it looked like he gasped for air or trying to yelp but then i picked him up to make sure he was ok and then his pupil shrieked to the point that his eye was blank for a sec and then his pupils got huge. I just wanted to know if he mite be ok or if there is something i need to do

Very naive. People these days thinks they deserve respect just because they have a animal for example. Little they know is that respect can only be earned. Gotta work at it. Very refreshing be nice to hear with other reptiles and pets. Thank you.

I just got a gecko from someone and unfortunately, I didn't know about how you need to not touch a crested gecko for like a week to let him acclimate to his new environment. I was excited to have a new crested gecko and just tried to pet him a little bit and yep, he dropped his tail! So, that's a thing everyone needs to know and I'm very sad I was ignorant of. He was stressed w/ all the bustling around in the car etc. and I just didn't realize that.

I let my new crestie acclimate for 2 full weeks before handling. Then I would only handle her at night when I would change out her food and water for fresh. I only handle her 15-20 mins a night every night around the same time. After two months my crestie has come to expect this and now climbs right onto my hand instead of trying to scurry away and hide. I also chose the evening to handle her because cresties are usually awake at dawn and at dusk. My crestie always is up exploring her cage at dusk and being active so that's when I choose to handle her.

My crestie wraps his/her (im thinking it's a she, but still too young to be 100% positive), tail around my hand and fingers all the time. At first I was so paranoid that my crestie would drop its tail over any sound or loud noise. After getting comfortable with my crestie I realized that now it feels safe and comfortable with me handling him/her they are completely comfortable with me touching their tail. My crestie also has drank out of its water dish since I first brought it home and I have never seen it drink up the water droplets from misting.

One of my gecko's was just sitting around in the viv , I was watching it for a couple of minutes , went into the kitchen , came back and there's a tail wiggling about all over the place . These geckos can drop their tail at the drop of a hat . First time it happened in 12 years of keeping them . I have a couple of dozen gargs and cresties and over the years have seen every single one of them drink standing water at some point . I have one crestie , my first ever that will tip her empty water bowl out of the ledge if I don't fill it .
