A log cabin just doesn't feel complete without a natural stone hearth...so I installed one! Just in time for the first snow too. I also give an update on the accident I had a year ago at the cabin...

@@bout7fiddy482 It is so sad when good and decent men are disrespected. This man and his father represent the very best of how a man should be. My heart aches for you. God loves you. You may not love him but he loved you so much that he hung on that cross for you. These men know him, it's sad that you don't. The Lord deal with you.

Beautiful job.
First of all, I’m so relieved you got those metal shards dealt with. Taking care of yourself is a way of taking care of your family. And secondly, what a beautiful hearth. You’ve made such a lovely space. I think your dad would be proud.
As always just beautiful, hand-crafted work. I have been watching since you began harvesting and peeling logs, I thought how is this young guy going to get anything out of those mud caked logs? Not only did you but you showed us through it all and have a lovely cabin for your family and our eyes... And you've done it with grace.
Thank you for continuing this series. It's like a window to another world to watch the progress on the cabin and life in the woods. It's a great Saturday tradition.

Watching a new Outsider video is a great start to a weekend. The cabin looks awesome
Nothing but class and perfection! I had forgotten about your injury and certainly didn’t know that it was as bad as it was because we never heard any more about it. Glad it seems to have all worked out. Best wishes and stay safe!

Thank you for replying with this video. Praying for your complete recovery and for your family. I have been missing your videos.
The hearth stone looks awesome underneath the woodstove, fantastic job on the leveling. The cabin is coming along quite nicely my friend.
As always, great content. I work in the trades and never really had the opportunity to observe a hearth being laid down. I have a much greater appreciation now for how many times a stone has to be muscled around from the time it lands on to property until the time of the finished product. Glad to hear of your progress from the grinder accident, your injury wasn’t for nothing I’ve used grinders and cut offs a lot and every time I grab one now I am instantly reminded of your mishap and exercise that much more caution.

I suspect there would be 2 differences from what Outsider just showed us. They would place the stone with thinset mortar and use grout between for majority of houses. The second difference would be stone tile instead of field stone. Even odd shapes they would work with the tiles usually.
The hearth looks awesome. Happy to hear the final piece of metal was removed to prevent further infection by the unfortunate accident with the grinder. A hard lesson to learn but now you are on the mend. Stay safe and warm.
I am very happy to see you use the cement board under your stone. It not only provides a good base but it will save your cabin from burning down, I had a friend who almost lost his home by placing the stone on the subfloor, When the stone cracks, and it will in time, the sparks from you stove will work their way through and on to the base material. Many local building codes require the base material to be a cement type just for this reason. Good job!

Ikr, I just got back from a cold camping trip and then this
Wow! That accident (I hadn’t seen it before) just shows that mishaps can happen to even the most careful of us. It was truly cringe-worthy. Your stone hearth is beautiful! When I was a child, my brother and I joined our mother and a neighbor and her children to gather stones for a stone patio for us and one for the neighbor. We spent a lot of time jigsawing those stones into a beautiful patio. I don’t remember cutting stone but my father might have helped when he had time after work. Stay safe!
Beautiful opening scenes, brilliant way to move the stove, great job on the stones - I bet you're good at Tetris 😉 - totally incredible work!! You've got the patience of Job!!! You & your family will have many priceless memories there! God bless y'all!! 💖🙏💖👍
Solar and a very well built remote cabin. That's why I call excellent living. Bet you can't wait to take your family there. Has your grandfather seen the finished cabin? Hope he's doing well. BTW: I know the feeling you had at the time of your accident, accessing the damage and determining how best to handle it for a return trip home alone. A calm cool head was a must.
You are so blessed to have all that beauty around you and wild animals what a blessing from our father in Heaven
Lovely stove and hearth! I felt lonely watching without your father! He was a nice person.
Stunning, a real work of art as I knew it would be, nothing ordinary for the Outsider. It’s absolutely beautiful and something you can admire and appreciate for many years to come. Well done. Take care, be safe. Dorset, UK
Beautifully done! I sure miss Outsider Sr. but I know he's really enjoying how this is going. When you get the cabin the way you want, please put a picture of him around the hearth. We would all enjoy that too.
Just like everyone else says your dad would be so proud of all the beautiful things you done and doing to the beautiful house you both built I hope you will bring your lovely wife and so adorable little beautiful daughter to the house please take care of yourself because you are outthere by yourself please stay strong and safe and blessed Rosa from Texas
Seeing you carry on with your work without your father is heart breaking. But you carry on in memory and for your family. Good luck my friend I do enjoy your videos. They are relaxing as there's no weird music, no over the top talking. Just natural sounds of a person working that I can relax to.
Great job, can't wait to see the cabin furnished.
You made that look easy! Having laid stone myself for seating areas and pathways in my yard I know what “fun” it can be choosing stone placements and leveling them! Great job!
I love to watch you work, so methodical and each move purposeful…or else your video editing is spot on! Nice work guy, and even this stranger misses your quiet, in-the-background dad. I keep thinking you need a really big front porch for that fantastical cabin.
A dreamlike beautiful nature, in which your house stands. One could envy you for it. And your Stone Hearth turned out beautifull. 👍 I am also glad to hear that your arm has healed well. I wish you and your family all the best and God's blessing.
The cabin is absolutely beautiful in an understated way, nice touch with the real stone hearth.
Hello again from Pennsylvania! It's so funny that you posted a new video today. I just got done asking if you were ok, since it had been a while since your last one. Glad you to see you are well. What an awesome job you did on the stonework for your stove. I know your dad would have been so proud of the job you did on it. Glad to see you took care of that piece of metal in your arm as well. Can't wait to see what you do next to your amazing cabin. Until then, God bless you and your family.
Pride in your work✔ Creativity in your work✔ Patience in your work✔ This East Canadian household is very proud of you✔ Most important, though, your father would be so proud of you, as he always was.✔❤🩹🇨🇦
You made my Saturday! It's always a nice weekend when you have a new video out. The cabin sure has come a long way since the beginning & I remember the 1st episode I watched & I was thinking to myself I wonder if I'll ever get to see this cabin finished cuz I had allot going on in my life at that time but anyway, I'm glad I've been able to watch it from start to finishing w/all the ups & downs you even had. From the loss of your mother & father, becoming a father yourself & your beautiful wife having her battles, you persevered through it all. God has been w/you every step of the way that's for sure & Ik your mom & dad are looking down upon you from heaven & are proud of you & your achievements. God bless & I look forward to your next video.

I saw many off grid house builder on KZread but i didn't find such a professional builder as you. Outsider, I have seen lots of cabin builds and I have to say that your cabin, that you and your wonderful Dad built, is the most beautiful cabin I have ever seen. You truly are a talented Artisan! The stone hearth is awesome and a piece of art! Congratulations!
Обильных вам, благословений и крепкого здоровья! 🙏🕊🌎
Beautiful work, that grinder grabbing your sweater was scary, glad you made out ok with that.
Another beautiful video. Glad your arm is better. Pro trick for the mortar - use two buckets. Dip your sponge in the clean water bucket, wipe up as much grout as it will hold, then squeeze the rag, dip into the clean bucket and as soon as water fills into sponge, quickly remove it and squeeze the dirty water into a second sponge. By doing this, your clean water bucket will remain cleaner longer and you'll be able to remove more grout without making water bucket changes.
I worked construction jobs for 32 years. We always worked with a partner so if one of us got hurt you had someone to get help. That grinder that grabbed your arm is a dangerous tool. You are now in the club of guys that have a scar on their arm from it. And there are many out there. Please be very careful out there one mistake could be very bad. I love your cabin. Been watching since the foundation start. Watching you and your dad build this cabin has been a pleasure thank you.

I have been living vicariously through your log cabin build for your family. What a gift to your family & the memories of working with your Dad to pass along. Thank you for bringing back warm fuzzy feelings of working along side my own Dad to solve dilemmas of needed renovations. (I took a crowbar to the downstairs shower because I xould not find it in my heart to shower with critters that had many many many more legs than I had. Poor Dad, he came in, asked what I was doing, I told him, that no more showering with may legged critters. He replied what are we going to put there?. I said we are going shopping. My Dad was amazingly patient, was he not? )
