With a winter storm on the way, I had to make a DIY router sled to plane my epoxy door, and get it loaded onto the tractor before the squalls hit. I then returned a few days later, to do some maintenance work at the log cabin.

Yours is a terrific channel for so many reasons. Your relationship with your dad resonates with many of us, even tho he is now gone, the cabin and all that it took the two of you to build still stands as a home full of memories. Great ones. Watching the way you plan and execute each piece of the build and now, occupy is always fun. I for one, would enjoy watching you repair the snow cat and snowmobile but I'm a little wired that way... Thanks for sharing your great adventure...always fun to look forward to and to watch. :)

I do love that Massey. Back when I was a teen, so about 55 years ago, I had an IH 350 Utility with front end loader. It was about the same size as your machine. I move a lot of Massachusetts snow with it. I like the idea of the stone ledge behind the stove. You will get another benefit from it. The look will be rustic, but it will also help break up the mass of logs that one is forced to look at.

Snow and ice build-up are definitely major problems with solar panels in cold climates. Adding a wind turbine would be a good addition. If you get a cheap one, you could use it just to heat the solar panels to keep them clear. Just use electric heat cables that are designed to go on roofs to prevent ice dams.

Just to make a note for future reference, one project that I'm looking forward to the front deck, with as I recall, you may or may not use those curved trees on or in the construction of. Yes, the clear door with the tree in it will be neat, and for many years I had a silver birch in a corner of my lounge with all sorts of stuff from my travels hanging on it, but for some reason, it is the look of the whole cabin that appeals to me most, and I still fondly recall the videos of times when you and your father were working on bringing it to life. Best of luck, and the very best of wishes to you and your family.

Over one bench, it would be nice to be able to hang your winter gear. It is a great place to dry out stuff. An excellent heavy wood peg system would match the aesthetic of the cabin. The stone-covered bench will be a nice place to put your winter boots on. A longer-handled broom would be handy to hang on the left side outside the wall. Then any family member could rake the snow from the solar panels. A plus is if you put a sauna and shower underneath the solar panels, the heat will melt the snow.

Nice! That door is really unique! What plans do you have for the steps to your front door? I slipped on icy temporary steps similar to yours as I was leaving with my arms full of tools. This resulted in cracked ribs and a strained back. I kept working but it was quite painful and it really slowed me down for a couple weeks. I had been through that door and down the steps hundred's of times without a problem until this happened and would hate to see it happen to anyone else, especially someone like you that is working alone and isolated.

Some beautiful Glacier Blue or Nordic Black Canadian granite slabs atop a large brick box underpinning would make for a wonderful installation, not only to hold heat, dry out winter wear or sit near the stove. But also as kindling wood/chopped wood storage for those times when you just don't want to go out for an armload of burnstock! 😉. Hope the family is doing well. Looking forward to seeing that one-of-a-kind door!!

Seeing you move that heavy door by yourself, knowing you miss your other 2 hand, as I do. Stay safe and God Bless.

As a non Christian man, I don't have any religion to be honest, I do feel that you genuinely mean it when u say "god bless" to us. And I don't know why, but it warms my heart to hear you say it. I've been watching you for quite some time now (although today I had to re-sub to the channel for some strange reason (I got a new phone recently perhaps that may be the reason). Anyways, I for one would like to see you do all the work on the machinery that you need to do for what that's worth to you. I have never seen an episode on this channel that I didn't learn from or feel inspired by yet. I'd love to be able to do what you have done, a cabin in the woods is literally my idea of heaven (no religious joke intended ,I just don't know how to put it across any better). I think you're very much an inspiration in many many ways. And I truly hope your channel continues for many years to come. good luck to you,

You should think about getting yourself a heat powered fan to sit on top of the fireplace. They surprisingly work quite well and they're fairly cheap to, from like $35 all the way up to $100+ depending on the unit. I got one for my appointment for the old school gas furnace which is basically like a fireplace and I don't know how I've lived here so many years without one LOL. Looking forward to the flood coat and final polish video! 👍👍

I can't wait to see that door, I have a feeling it is going to be incredible! And I pray all goes well on the Snow Cats Carb rebuild (it's not that hard, just finding the rebuilt kit is the hardest part) and that your snowmobile gets back up & running soon. Be safe.

One of the nicely made cabin I saw in YT. The outside is frigid cold but beautiful. The green pine trees and the white snow.
