agreed 100 percent. I always mention this about Steven to anyone who will listen. I love his style and what he comes up with. To someone who doesn't know any better it sounds simple but it isn't (not to me) and his beats are very creative but not over the top obnoxious drummer shit. I'm a guitar player and have had my battles with drummers and even though the best I can do it keep a simple beat on a kit I know coming up with these beats is way more difficult than people think

Sorry Mr. Sorum. Nobody plays like Steven. His bounce and his groove is unmatched.

The original members were all unique and special and brought so much character to the music. It’s never been replicated. Was still very good with Sorum, but definitely different and nowhere near as “special” if that makes sense.

Feel so bad for steve, he put himself through a lot, lost a lot but hes still around, ready and willing but even now he can't catch a break. I'd love to see him in the GnR line up again.

The Guns wave had already started rolling but I was listening with a lot of prejudice because I expected an improved glam rock. But when the sound started and I said, wait, this is not glam rock. This is fucking rock'n roll. For me one of the best hard rock albums of all time.

Love watching him play. The smile is infectious.

He still plays the Appetite songs better than any other drummer that has been in GNR. His style and groove was a huge component of the original bands sound. It's a shame he got left out of the NITL tour.

He has so much style, it is almost melodic the way he plays. He doesn't just beat flatly and loudly, so the sound he makes has even more impact. It is like you are listening to his own story when he plays in addition to the singing and guitar. He really adds a lot to the song.

Steven Addler moves me as a drummer because of his feel, groove, and energy. Yes the drumming is simplistic in nature, but it has that I don't give a flying freek about anything attitude. They were there to rock and roll! ! !

His touch on the high hat, symbols and ability to play with a grove was what made him their best drummer.

Even Slash thought the same. I remember him saying something along the lines of with Sorum they were super tight, but Adler had his own kind of groove, almost behind the beat and he played with more attitude.

No, not really. Compare the debut (And 'Lies' to a lesser extent) to anything that followed. This is one of those examples of synergy. Izzy complimented Slash (And vice-versa), while Stevie's groove meshed up with Duffs base. That by chance combination, once changed, ceased to exist. The original five were synergy, pure and simple. Magic.

+Fakename70 hopefully this video will shut all the naysayers and doubters the fuck up.Frankly It's good to see Steven get back into top form and that he's still alive to do so. I feel that he survived because this reunion is meant to happen even if it's for a short time. Steven spent years battling his demons trying to get better and he has while Axl became a fucking hermit for like a decade and ended up putting out a shitty album with a bunch of sidemen he called Guns n Roses. Steve's drumming has gotten better again While Axl's voice sounds like shit these days.If anything Axl should be grateful that the rest of those guys want to play with him at all.

I love that even a massive stroke didn't stop this man from playing drums very well. That's amazing, and shows how dedicated he is to drums,

He still sounds wonderful, I wish him the best with music production and wish him good health. 👍

This never fails to give me goosebumps. He brings a gritty groove to the songs that no other drummer ever will. Steven ‘popcorn’ Adler is the best.

I stood right next to Sorum at the West L.A. Guitar Center and watched him play. The guy SUCKS at playing drums. Sorry, but that's just a fact. He sold 400 trillion records, or whatever, but if we're talking competence on the instrument, Matt Sorum doesn't have it. He kept trying to play through "You Could Be Mine," which is his own song, and he couldn't do it. There are thousands of killer drummers out there who can just destroy on the drums, and people like Matt Sorum steal opportunities from them.

He’s playing with your soul The best drummer of GNR Ever.

Insane groove. The musicality of his playing is excellent over the whole piece. And that flam at 5:15, so delightful. You can't learn that in school, it's just God given talent.

His drum sound in Appetite For Destruction was what made the album sound so great. Especially that Explosive snare

Just proves he was essential to the sound just like every member was. Those snare hits!

This guy has literally been to hell and back....and recently I saw an interview with him and he said that the guys didn't think he could play those older songs the same....well here's the damn proof, I just think that he has battled things some of us have nightmares about and the fact that he came out the other side with that compassionate spirit and that total happiness is sooooo damn inspirational to not only recovering addicts but to the human story.....I really hope them guys in G'n'R give this man his chance even just for a few of the last shows of the tour...I'm sure there are a ton of fans that would love to see that story come full circle for him.........

I think you are neglecting to see that they've all had this horrible upbringing. Axl Rose, despite what everyone believes was not the reason he was put out of this band. They had a contract in which they all had to agree to no drugs or be taken out of the group. They all complied but for him he could not break the habit nor would he go get help. In fact quite the opposite, he brought harm upon the rest of them due to a heroin situation that he brought right on home. As much as I like Steven and have sympathy and empathy for him, he did have the option to do as the rest of them did.

Although id love to see steve back in GNR if it meant he could be in an environment where u could possibly relapse im happy to just see him do his thing in these types of videos.,Massive respect for him he struggled for years with addiction and came out the other side although a daily battle to stay clean hes a fkn winner in my eyes❤❤❤

There's just something satisfying about watching a good drummer.

It just kept getting better and better, Mr. Brownstone, My Michelle holy cow this song is so raunchy so so good Rocket Queen super sexy then with that whole tempo change toward the end ahhhh man it was like the other commenter said it was like I died and went to Rock n Roll heaven. There is no better hard rock album than Appetite.... 1987 was a great year for music.

If it wasn't for Steven no one would have ever heard Guns N Roses. Him and Izzy both were key integrals of their sound.

I seen Slash live last summer. With GnR. I will agree with you to an extent. Slash is on another level. He truly is the heart and soul of the band in my opinion.

Warren Gonzalez but axle can not sing at all anymore. I’d like to see the other guys with the lead that slash is touring with now. Can’t remember his name but his vocals are great. Fuck axle. Couldn’t pay me to sit through one song with axle now. Washed up, never continued to train his voice he just thinks people want to see his fat ass. Not me

I could watch him play the whole album. Perfect feel and solid writing. Forever a part of rock ‘n roll.

Huge respect to a guy who went through so muchpersonal hell with drugs and alcohol abuse, who still works hard to maintain his stature, even though he'll never be given a chance due to corporal greed. Its a shame its not about unity or the formation of who and what GN'R were. Axl and Slash suddenly thrown together in a matter of months after spending 30 years slitting each other's throats? C'mon!....... but, here is a guy who never misses a beat or a tempo even though to many, he appears to be a manefestation of who he once was. God bless Adler!

He NEEDS to be playing with GNR. He’s still amazing.

@@rodneywoodcock8235 so NOT true. In his words he wanted the “loot” to be spread evenly between all 5 original members. And Axl for sure not sure on Duff or Slash but Axl for sure didn’t wanted an even spread of the cash. So Izzy said screw it then

Steven Adler was and is one of my favourite drummers and yes no one could ever replace him. He held that band together on stage in the early days when they were all loaded. I agree with all the comments below......he was never mechanical like Sorum he played with swing and groove and style but was still on point. He sang every word and felt every note. Outtro of Rocket Queen and Nightrain I think will always be there in history as a benchmark of perfection.

Amazing he plays this well after all his medical issues. Rock on!

Adler has soul and honesty that shines in his playing. He plays the drums like they are a piece of him. It is what makes him great, and the best drummer GNR ever had. There is a reason Appetite For Destruction touched so many people in a way the Use Your Illusion never did. Matt Sorum is a great drummer, but he can't hold a candle to Adler. Adler has the Blood, Sweat, Spirit and Piss sound/feeling that you can't practice or learn.

Absolutely totally fucking right. You said it perfectly. Steven is a goddamn legend. Plays with heart and soul, so natural. His love for music and drums shines through in his playing. Such a shame Guns went the way it did, without Steven. Think of all the records that never got made over all those empty years.......

You are so right. See my post above. He had the soul and swing and he sang every word and felt every note. You can't replace that

You know what people hate on this guy because he wasn't John Bohnam or Keith Moon. But guess what he's the drummer for 5 platinum songs on 1 album so who's going to disrespect that?

@@bbq8101 Have you listened to Ringo's work outside the Beatles? He served the songs, and when you've got John, Paul, and George in front of you, KISS, Keep It Simple, Stupid. It's all subjective. Who was the better drummer, by the way? Pete, or Paul? Those are my guesses.

I just started my journey in music because of steven adler. I remember trying to mimic him on a toy drum kit back in 91 because he was by far my favourite member of guns… 3 years later, I started to play guitar and my goal was learning sweet child o mine. years later I became professional musician producer and sound engineer. My life totally changed because of him and I never was drummer.

I’m 52. I grew up listening to great music. Steven may not be the best drummer there ever was. But, I had rather hear him hit the skins to this song than most any other drummer doing something else. He was born to do the drums to this song. Great job Steven. Had things not turned out like they did, I truly believe you were on your way up, way up!

Steven. If you ever get a chance to read this, just know that you were my inspiration for drumming when i was a teenager. I was raised in a severely violent 'christian' household. I saw the cover of Apetite for Destruction with the cross and the skulls, and I just had to have it. Listening to GnR for the first time, with this screechy voice on vocals, this guitar dude with a top hat, this bassist and rythym guitarist putting it together, and then hearing those beats of your just made my hair stand on end. Thank you, I'm glad you're looking better than ever. Dude, you saved my life bro. I have listened to you drum almost every day since I was 13. I'm 45 now.

was 19 when appetite for destruction came out. favorite CD. played it so much, it wouldn't have lasted had it been a tape or record....true masterpiece.

Ha! Im 45 as well and remember i was already playing guitar for a year or so, then i seen slash on sweet child video an that was it. And of course i never missed the JD or JB bottle he had in every single picture. And ill never forget my first and last time drinking a pint of JB at age 15 because of those pictures. Lol

Glad he finally beat the heroin demon. He still has it on those drums.

Such a great groove. When I was first learning to play, I played along to this album all the time. The songs were simple enough for a beginner, yet they had a lot of changes that were challenging. Steven was a huge influence for me. Thanks for all the great grooves!

Of course buddy Izzy and Adler are so important to Guns and Roses, no matter how much drummers exists. But this guys is a great part of the this best band along this years. Thank you so much my brother Steven Adler, I'm a big fan of Guns and Roses. Thank you so from Brazil. 🎸🎶🎼🇺🇲🇧🇷🇺🇲🇧🇷🎼🎶🎸

Most people think gnr is slash or axl. It's actually all five original members. Without one , you wouldn't have never heard of them. Each one made gnrs sound unique and chart topping

Seeing him so happy alive and playing so well is something to definitely smile about!

Dude your still kicking ass on the appetite tracks.... Fuckin Steven should be out there with the boys on this huge GNR tour.............

This gave me goosebumps... He still has that groove and swing that were so key to those great GnR records. Truly one of the best rock drummers ever... He’s the modern day Charles Watts... Kick ass Steven!

This was so cool to find. He has always been one of my favorite drummers. I realized at the end that I never stopped smiling throughout the video. ☺️

The BEST GNR Drummer! Dude has a swing and groove that made appetite and GNR! Everything is perfect, in place, not overdone, just perfect!
