Steamtown's Baldwin #26 - Inaugural Runs of 2016

April 17, 2016 was a day many railfans had waited for - the full-time return of steam to Steamtown NHS, in the form of 0-6-0 Baldwin #26. For the first time since 1999, after a very long restoration, the engine was fired up and pulling passengers again on the Scranton Limited. As part of Steamtown's 30th anniversary, a dedication ceremony was held in the turntable area, featuring a speech by current park Superintendent Debbie Conway, followed by a day full of trips powered by #26 throughout the yard limits area. Enjoy the view from both trackside and onboard as we view Steamtown's Baldwin #26 and the Inaugural Runs of 2016!

    I remember on this day 4 years ago I celebrated my 9th birthday. After we had my party, we went to Steamtown for the 2:30 run, and what was my first time face to face with a steam locomotive since 2012. I had a blast. Baldwin 26 will always be my favorite steam loco in their collection.

    So happy to see steam back at steamtown. I remember seeing on our local news both when it was decided to stop all excursions and I remember seeing a segment about this very day you captures. I grew up about 45 minutes south of Scranton and only recently moved out of the area. Thank you for the video. Great looking and sounding little engine

    It is indeed a great little engine - and thanks! I've seen her a few times since then and can't wait to see B&M 3713 when it's done...

    Great video! Love that you included the dedication and the restoration work as a flashback. I haven't been to Steamtown yet, but I hope too sometime next year. Wanted to go this year but my grandparents wanted to take me to a two little narrow gauge railroads out west... ;)

    I hope Reading and Northern 425 and CNJ 113 both come to Railfest 2016 this year because I want to see both CNJ 113 and Baldwin 26 to doublehead together.

    So what kind of whistle is that on 26? Also how long are the scranton limited rides behind 26 and how often does steamtown do them?

  • @Bigjimvideo

    @Bigjimvideo

    4 жыл бұрын

    Not sure about the whistle. The Scranton Limited rides are about 40-45 minutes long, I believe - during normal (non-Pandemic) years, they're diesel-powered on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and steam-powered on weekends, three to four times per day.

    Would you know if she is being fired on anthracite or is she an oil burner?

  • @Bigjimvideo

    Big Jim Video Productions ok thanks. Was hoping since she's in Scranton they'd be using anthracite coal instead of either oil or bituminus coal

    Joseph Richardson The engine wasn’t built to burn anthracite, however. It was originally built as a “stock/off-the-shelf” switcher and used down at the Baldwin plant in Philadelphia for a good chunk of its career. Hence it’s why she’s not an anthracite burner.

    +TheBlueComet833 Depends on when you go - they do have quite a lot of volunteers who come in on weekends. Also if it's during the off season or early in the week, the crews aren't being pulled away to run trains. Plus there could be outside contractors in there as well doing work. There may be 10 paid full-time employees, but a lot of volunteers that you see back there.
