An Alco Weekend

At the end of September my wife and I spent two days railfanning Alco lines in Eastern PA. On Saturday, 9/30 we took a trip to Scranton to chase the Delaware-Lackawanna. PT-98 was light power leaving Scranton, but just as we were getting ready to leave we heard on the scanner that the 3000 had failed with a blown auxiliary generator. So we caught them returning to drop the 3000 and pick up the 405 to replace it. While we were waiting the Steamtown shuttle went by the Radisson station hotel. The PT then proceeded to Tobyhanna for some BestWay cars and then on down to the gap to swap empties for their pickup. Sunday 10/1 we went down to West Chester to catch the tourist operation there. Running that day was the 4213 an ex-CP C424 which was rebuilt with a traction alternator replacing the original generator. It also has a good deal of modular electronics according to the conductor. While the sun was in and out all day, we managed to catch the train in the sun a few times. Enjoy!

Good maintenance and the locos very good painted. No stain.
Great video of the ALCO'S which are 1 of my favorite locomotives! That WC Alco is one fine looking locomotive and has been kept in pristine condition! Thanks for sharing this video with us along with your time and effort!
Spent an entire day at steamtown in 2018 touring the roundhouse and enjoying the Alco's switching the yard and local spur tracks. Wonderful opportunity to see and hear them up close and personal. Great rail line in Eastern PA.
*Great video. Excellent!* 👍👍👍I can't keep up with my first diesel video.😉
That 4213 is a beauty.
Great rail show cian and grandad
Man those alco's are a rocking and rolling.
Love from India ❤️
The horn on those ex-DL&W MUs remind me so much of the old, South Shore MU horns...and some were put on the newer MUs too! :)
Have you noticed they're almost playing "Jingle bells" on the bell @ 2:49? or maybe it's just me. :-/
Awesome video! I was at the West Chester Railroad once!
First class video,superb sound.
Great shots!
High speed on jointed rail = awesome

+drby0788 Yes, this was the PRR's West Chester Branch. SEPTA still uses the portion of the line closer to Phila. The outer portion was sold to the shortline shown in the video.
There is never a bad day chasing Alco's!!!!!!

Awesome.
great !!!
I've often wondered, besides being totally awesome, why is the D&L all ALCo powered? Sure pleases us railfans!

Streamlined Steamroller Mostly because the owner is an Alco lover. Also Alcos are much cheaper to purchase on the used loco market.

@@fmnut because you can’t get parts for them !
I wager the Steamer at 1:00 is a MLW...
If only a shortline could have done with the old Fairbanks Morse H-liners and Trainmasters like what D&L has been doing with ALCOs...
2:49 is that jingle bells?
