Spring 2022 Update (In Summer)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hey everyone! I know I'm really late with this video, but this is my 'normal' spring update. Just getting everyone up to date, and seeing how everyone is doing. I haven't posted videos in a bit, but I wanted to let you know I will be soon. And a bunch more stuff too.
Thanks again to all of you for the support. There will be more to come for sure!

    Oh no! Sorry to hear that your QX60 is done! That is far too expensive a fix to do, so i understand why it's time has come. I am really happy to hear that my channel has helped you out so much! It's comments like yours that make this videos worth it! I wish your QX could have lasted much longer, but I am humbled by the skills my videos helped out with. Love your videos. Slow pace, great camera angles and thorough review of needed tools. Shooting videos, performing repairs, then video editing gets tiring, so thanks. BTW, I hope you'll make a JX35 catalytic converter or Oxygen Sensor replacement video in the near future. My check engine light (P0420) keeps lighting up, then goes away after driving 200+ miles. There aren't any replacement videos on youtube, so you'd be the first.

    Hi Nexus, First, thank you for your videos! You've helped me quite a bit with my JX35. I'm hoping you can help me with an issue that no mechanic can seem to pinpoint and I don't want to lose my engine over it. 2013 JX35 104,000 mi I was having shuddering, loss of power, and a flashing check engine light last summer on the way home from a road trip. I brought it to a foreign car auto repair shop and they replaced the catalytic converters... twice, as they told me the first one failed... I continued having issues so during multiple visits they replaced 3 of the (4) O2 sensors, flushed the solenoid, replaced a control modular fuse, replaced a ground terminal for my battery, changed my transmission fluid (per my request), and changed my oil 3x. I was still having issues, my check engine light came back on solid, shuddering came back, a friend checked and cleared the codes (misfiring) and he recommended I change the spark plugs. After watching your spark plug video I changed them out. The mechanic was going to charge $850! The plugs in the front were seized up in there, and the ones in the back came out easily but I smelt some gas when removing them and smelled gas on them. I torqued the new plugs to spec and I dropped it back off to the mechanic while I was out of town for a month (with a full tank of gas and bottle of STP gas treatment). When I came back they told me I must've fixed the issue because they didn't find anything, no codes and no shuddering. I work from home, live in the boonies and drive maybe 50 miles a week on average. My car sits for a couple of days on end. I will start it up to drive around the "block" which is a 3 mile loop. I haven't driven it much since I got back from my trip in January but when I do run it, I can smell gas when idling or when outside air circulates through the vents. I have only filled my tank twice since January and always use 93 or highest octane available. Two weekends ago was the first long trip I've taken since I changed the plugs back in December. I drove 1hr straight, parked for an hr and when I started it back up my car started shuddering. I gave it some gas and it went away. It did this a second time that day while I was out running errands but not as bad. Well, this past weekend I used the remote starter after it had been sitting a couple days and it was hesitating to start. I could hear it cranking but it just wouldn't turn. I shut it off with the transponder, got in the vehicle to start it, and the same thing was happening so I pumped the gas pedal a couple of times, and it started right up, but a cloud of black smoke came out of the tail pipe. I dropped it off at an actual dealership on Monday 2/27. They called and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it, they checked my spark plugs and said they were perfect, checked the fuel lines, checked for codes and it started right up for them with no issues. They did not say they checked the throttle body. They offered to keep it for a couple of days to see if it happens after sitting for a while. They also told me that after you change spark plugs in an Infiniti the car has to reprogram itself which I haven't been able to confirm is true. I just ordered a new MAF sensor and ignition coils but I don't know if that's even a good place to start. I'm at a loss if a dealership can't even figure it out. I'm wondering if I should also clean the throttle body as well but I don't have a garage and it's been snowing where I am. I'm hoping you may have other suggestions? Thank you so much for even reading this if you do. I appreciate your help!

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Michelle. I'm happy to hear the videos have helped you out! Hmmm, for your issue, that's hard to say what the cause is. But to be honest, even before you suggested cleaning the throttle body, that was already ringing in my head. If I was having your issue, and if your air filter is nice and clear, I would clean the Throttle Body, and maybe even the MAF sensor as well. I see you have a check engine light. Did you happen to get what code you have? With that, it can help out with getting to a potential cause The gas smell is interesting too. That does align to a misfire issue. It can also be an EVAP system issue too. But hard to say without being there. But considering you mentioned there was a misfire code, I think that further confirms your situation. For the 'reprogram' comment when doing spark plugs, that's simply not true. They may be talking about an idle air relearn, but helps reset the throttle settings. But that is not required when doing spark plugs (although it doesn't hurt either. Just not needed) If possible, leaving a car overnight can be helpful, if you can arrange it. I had a client do that recently, and could diagnose an issue that couldn't be seen in the day, otherwise. Just initial, first start up in the morning. Either way, I would probably start with a throttle body cleaning and a MAF cleaning (2nd) and go from there

  • @NexusAuto

    Hi. Awesome news to hear the videos have helped out! For the map light, you would need to drop the whole map light housing. You need a trim tool (ideally) or a flat head screwdriver. But be careful as it can tear the headliner. You need to go in from the back, the side facing towards the rear of the car and gently pry it downwards. It should come out and you can get to those sockets

    Oh, that sucks. They are tough to remove sometimes...don't know why they make it that tough. I would say there is 2 things to point out or try. First make sure you are pushing in when trying to turn them. Sometimes, when they get jammed, pushing in unjams them. If not, try some 'leverage'. See if you have something that can wrap around it to help you turn it better. It can be tricky, but hope this helps a bit

    That does make sense. I have seen this happen a couple of times, and both times, it was motherboard failure. It's the little green circuit board that you see inside when you open up the FOB. I can't say that is the case for you for sure, but that is what i've seen before. If it is motherboard failure, only either a small electronic technician may be able to repair it if only one small component went bad, or you would need a whole new FOB. Maybe have it opened up and make sure the button on the 'outside' are lined up to the button on the 'inside' (hope that makes sense too)

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Lisa. Hmm, this is an interesting one. I have 2 possible thoughts. First, since this was related to the filler tube being rusty, I wonder if something is wrong with the transmission fluid. Either if the fluid level is off (too much or too little fluid), or if the fluid somehow got contaminated with dirt or rust when it was being repaired. Second, it is very common for the Power Distribution center to become corroded from underneath on these vehicles. The PDC is located on the driver side of the engine, it is a rectangular looking box. If you carefully remove it and lift it up, you may find some corrosion there that causes all sorts of issues with these cars. Also, is there any check engine lights by chance? If there is, I would start by getting a scan done. if not, I would probably start with the above things.

    Thanks! I really appreciate it. Hmm. That's a hard one. Normally something like that, I would need to be there to hear it. If it gets louder when you rev the engine, but it is in park, than it is likely not the transmission. What happens when you put it in drive or reverse? Does the noise change? If there really is no change, then it could be something with a pulley. Even a new pulley (like the water pump) could be faulty out of the box. As sucky as this would be, if it were me, I would remove the belt and check the pulleys one by one, and see if there is any play or noise. Also, it could be a vacuum leak, although I don't recall any vacuum lines in the area off the top of my head. Still, check the intake hoses and vacuum lines and see if there is a leak. From what you describe, I don't think so, but without being there, it is hard to say. That's where I would start. Hope this helps a bit
